Damn Hewitt, hasnt he got security issues to sort out, why is he still in the open  roflmao

I actually though gasquet would take the match in 5. I saw of few clips of this match and it really was the frenchman trying to dominate and take the ball deep to the hewitt forehand( which is the more inconsistent stroke). However Richard got cramp which did not bode well against the indefatiguable frenchman.

mightyjeditribble - September 6, 2006 03:56 PM (GMT)
Safin is down a break in the second set after taking the first 6-4, having held on to his break from yesterday. Think this match could go the distance?

For some reason my feed for this match doesn't have any sound with it, which is pretty annoying  :badpc:

mightyjeditribble - September 6, 2006 04:15 PM (GMT)
Haas now leads 5-2 in the second set. Safin to serve to stay in the match.

Make that "to stay in the set"

mightyjeditribble - September 6, 2006 04:24 PM (GMT)
Safin holds serve, but can't break Haas, who takes the set 6-3 to level the match. Safin's UE count in this set is pretty terrible. It seems he is back to his usual inconsistent self ... I still think he'll pull through, but there's a good chance this will go to five.

mightyjeditribble - September 6, 2006 04:31 PM (GMT)
In a mirror image of the beginning of the second set, Marat goes 3-0 up in the third. After the break, Haas will serve to get on the scoreboard.

mightyjeditribble - September 6, 2006 04:40 PM (GMT)
Haas battles from 15-40 back up to deuce, only to hand Safin another break point, which Haas also saves. Tommy then gets game point by setting up a nice volley, but nets the ball to go back to deuce a third time.

However, he digs out some great shots to finally hold. After this game, will he have the power left to challenge Safin's serve? He'll want to avoid going two sets to one down at any cost.

mightyjeditribble - September 6, 2006 04:43 PM (GMT)
Safin holds to go 4-1 up without too many problems, despite some pressure from Haas.

Crucial service game for Tommy coming up.

mightyjeditribble - September 6, 2006 04:53 PM (GMT)
Both players hold; Haas to serve to stay in the set at 5-2. Doesn't look like he'll pull out the set at the moment.

Haas gets broken to love. Doesn't look like he's got a chance to win this match, but I wouldn't completely rule out Safin letting him back in the match with another dip in the fourth. Let's see ...

mightyjeditribble - September 6, 2006 05:09 PM (GMT)
Haas breaks in the first game, but Safin breaks straight back. One all in the fourth! Is anyone reading these posts at all, or am I talking to myself?

mightyjeditribble - September 6, 2006 05:10 PM (GMT)
Superb passing shot from Haas sets up break point, and Safin hits a forehand long to go a break down again. 2-1 Haas, with no one holding serve yet in this fourth set. Can Haas stop the trend?

mightyjeditribble - September 6, 2006 05:20 PM (GMT)
Two more breaks - gripping tennis in this match at the moment. Tommy looks like he can hold this service game, though, and finally consolidate a break.

Nick Havoc - September 6, 2006 05:21 PM (GMT)
Looks like he just might.

Nick Havoc - September 6, 2006 05:23 PM (GMT)
What a wild match. Four service breaks in the first three sets, then five in the first five games of the fourth set.

mightyjeditribble - September 6, 2006 05:25 PM (GMT)
Marat hits a ball long to give Tommy break point, and then nets a ball to go 2-5 down. Looks like this set is all but over - Haas will serve to level the match.

mightyjeditribble - September 6, 2006 05:30 PM (GMT)
Tommy takes the set, and takes it to the fifth. Can Marat find his level from the third set to clinch this one?

petalp - September 6, 2006 05:35 PM (GMT)
Evening..! :)

Ooh.. Marat and Tommy H going into a 5th set.. how exciting!!

Nick Havoc - September 6, 2006 05:36 PM (GMT)
Meanwhile, Federer is up 3-0 in the first set, without having dropped a point yet.

petalp - September 6, 2006 05:40 PM (GMT)
Murray v Davydenko.. thoughts..

As I mentioned in a previous posting, Davyd's game matches up well against Murray's. He's a solid baseliner, with that bit more on his shots. Murray much prefers the big hitters such as Gonzo, Roddick, and to some extent even Federer. Players like Davyd, Hewitt (even though Murray has beeaten him) and Nadal are not good matchups for Murray.

Also, I think that it is no coincidence that Murray was bagelled today and breadsticked yesterday. My guess is that a morning start does not sit well with him. His game just wasn't together. The fact that they had to replay a point in today's set because he dropped a ball out of his pocket is just a small example of him not being quite with it.. Sounds insignificant, but I think that he just couldn't get his head together.

As a result of this, he probably got it wrong tactically against Davyd too. Probably tooo passive, not quite getting his tennis brfain in gear to go for his shots.

Disappointing for him, as he could have won, but really the better player won, by the sound of it.

Indeed! Annoyingly, my feed from usopen2006.eurosport.com doesn't have any sound. I thought I would switch to Federer's match when it came on, but it's too exciting now, despite the missing audio effects! I don't think Rogers' match will be such a nailbiter ... ;)

Well Nick..

Are you watching this match? Is Fed hitting the ball cleanly on first impressions?? Hopefully it's looking as smooth as the scoreline sounds.. Maybe he's working himself into form in the second week (a luxury that he was not alllowed at SW19 of course)..

I don't know. There's a lot of drama in that Federer match so far. For example, will he be able to close out the first set in under 15 min?

No.. I don't think that Fed's will quite go to 5 sets. I wonder if his opponent is a little overawed right now, and fed has just gone after him from the word 'go'...

Nick Havoc - September 6, 2006 05:43 PM (GMT)
I'm not watching. Just following the scoreline.

mightyjeditribble - September 6, 2006 05:43 PM (GMT)
Easy holds in the first three games of the decider. Haas takes it up to 40-15, but Marat gets it back to deuce.

Nick Havoc - September 6, 2006 05:45 PM (GMT)
It's 5-2 now, but still just one break. Gicquel has held serve fairly easily in his last couple attempts. (Held to love both times, in fact.)

Ooh.. will he or won't he?? The tension is mounting already :)

At Seffi's peak there was this rumour that players who lasted more than 35 minutes or so with her got a little round of applause in the locker room.. I'm sure that I read this in a reputable tennis publication recently, and that it's not a wind-up

mightyjeditribble - September 6, 2006 05:46 PM (GMT)
Amazing tennis here in the fourth game of the decider. Haas holds in the end though, after a few deuces.

Hmm.. fed's doing a 'Sampras' maybe..? i'd bet that Gicquel is not getting near to breaking Fed and that Fed is happy to take the set 6-3. Break Gicquel once in each set, and hold serve.. and a double break being a bonus..

mightyjeditribble - September 6, 2006 05:50 PM (GMT)
Safin holds easily. Haas now serving.

Maybe. It's deuce now on Gicquel's serve, but he goes on to hold for 3-5.

mightyjeditribble - September 6, 2006 05:53 PM (GMT)
Some superb passing shots from both players on Tommy's serve, but he holds and it's still on serve.

Nick Havoc - September 6, 2006 05:53 PM (GMT)
15-40 now. A chance for Gicquel to break back.

Well. I won't jinx him by describing him as doing a Sampras anymore!!

mightyjeditribble - September 6, 2006 05:57 PM (GMT)
Tommy uses up both of his challenges in this game, and Safin holds to 4-3 up on serve. Crucial service game for Haas coming up.

I've got the US Open radio on, and amazingly, it's almost in sync with my silent video :)

petalp - September 6, 2006 05:58 PM (GMT)
And Fed takes the first set.. comes through the break point tester :ok:
