Title: US Open Monday 4th September - Women's 4th Round

GS2 - September 4, 2006 09:15 AM (GMT)
Women’s 4th Round

Serena v Mauresmo
This does not look good for Amelie. She’s struggled in her early matches, the US Open isn’t her favourite venue & the (very noisy) crowd will be against her. Plus Serena looked very good in her match against Ivanovic. If Amelie’s going to win this one she’s going to have to stay aggressive & take advantage of Serena’s somewhat suspect fitness otherwise she’s gone. I can’t see Amelie making a dent in that 9-1 H2H however – Serena in three.

Safina v Razzano
Probably the weakest match of the 4th round in terms of interest. Razzano has had a good run but I’d be surprised if that continues here as Safina has got had head screwed on much better nowadays (so she’s now just inconsistent rather than wildly inconsistent!) Safina in two.

Sharapova v Li Na
Li Na stormed through the last two sets against Pierce in the previous round & has had some other good wins this year but Maria has looked very strong so far & although she probably won’t have as easy a time against the Chinese number 1 as she has in their three previous meetings I’d expect her to take this in two sets.

Golovin v Chakvetadze
This one is pretty tricky to call, their H2H is 1-1, they’ve both played well this year & their games are reasonably similar. Golovin struggled more in her 3rd round match but then she had a much trickier opponent. She may be tired from that but she is the grittier competitor of the two so I reckon she can take this in three sets.

Kuznetsova v Jankovic
Another tough one. Of the two Jelena is in the better form having been impressive since the clay season while Svetlana has struggled since RG. However when it comes to the big stage I have a little more confidence in Kuznetsova to tough it out. Svetlana in three.

Dementieva v Rezai
This has been another good run from the French girl who’s beaten some tricky players on the way to her first GS 4th round. Elena meanwhile, unusually, has been cruising quietly through the draw & her superior movement and court craft should see her through in 2 sets.

Davenport v Schnyder
Well neither of them were particularly convincing in their previous matches but both came through when it mattered. Unless Lindsay is tired she should win this having won all 6 of their previous matches on hardcourt & only dropping 2 sets along the way. Lindsay in 2.

Henin-Hardenne v Peer
Peer is another young talent who has consolidated her good form of the year at this tournament but I can’t see her getting any further. Justine has played 24 GS matches so far this year, has only lost two & only dropped three sets in the 22 she’s won! Peer is a decent player but I reckon Justine will have too much variety for her and will take this in two sets.

Play begins and Jankovic breaks Svetlana in the 1st game!

ObL!v!0N - September 4, 2006 03:26 PM (GMT)
Henin's 3-0 up already

OrangeCode - September 4, 2006 03:29 PM (GMT)
Can you believe this? The USA Network is not showing the Henin game -they're showing the Ginepri match! Come on - they really want to bore us to death!!!!!!!!!

ObL!v!0N - September 4, 2006 03:30 PM (GMT)
No they don't, that's why they aren't showing Henin :P

GS2 - September 4, 2006 03:30 PM (GMT)
Kuznetsova back on serve - leading 3-2.

Dementieva 3-1 against Rezai

Henin 3-0. Peer seems to be getting into the match a bit now after losing her first service game to love.

The McEnroe-declared Federer of women's tennis? Yeah, we'll be bored...

ObL!v!0N - September 4, 2006 03:34 PM (GMT)
I find her boring, but if you don't, that's your choice

GS2 - September 4, 2006 03:35 PM (GMT)
Kuznetsova has won 4 games in a row - leading 4-2.

4-0 to JHH. I can't believe I'm going to miss this match! The American-Open is just killing me. First I endured Roddick, then Serena, then Ginepri, Mardy Fish, etc. When the likes of the Fed, Nadal, etc are around - I'd like to watch those guys, and I think most fans would prefer to see them too! It's just killing me!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

ObL!v!0N - September 4, 2006 03:37 PM (GMT)
Bagel coming up!

OrangeCode - September 4, 2006 03:39 PM (GMT)

OrangeCode - September 4, 2006 03:40 PM (GMT)

Long rally, that!

OrangeCode - September 4, 2006 03:42 PM (GMT)

According to McEnroe himself. Looks like ma gal's playing well! Wish I could see it, though... :(

ObL!v!0N - September 4, 2006 03:57 PM (GMT)
Dementieva serving for the set! Come on Lena!

Yeah - now I see that it's much closer than the Henin match. But, for the love of God, can you believe that they're avtually stopped the coverage in the middle to show the News? And they wonder why tennis never takes off here - how can you stop a match in the middle of a game :yikes: and go off to show the news. Once I saw them show the first leg of a Champions League match on espn, and guess what, they didn't show the second leg. I'm shocked at American TV sports coverage. It's :yikes: !
