Title: US Open coverage on BBC radio and US Open Radio

Not being prepared to pay thirty pieces of silver for a satellite dish, I listened to the Beeb and US Open radio yesterday. I was very puzzled that a BBC commentator kept referring to Gonzales as “The ChiLAYan”. Worse than this though was what happened on US Open radio at the climax of the match between Nalbandian and Safin. A thrilling fifth set tie break, in which the Russian was always ahead but the Argentinian kept fighting back, had reached 7-6 to Safin, when we were taken to the Agassi press conference. Agassi hadn’t even arrived! As he turned up, but before he started speaking, the commentator said “Safin wins the tie break 8-6”.

I don’t Agassi’s standing as a superstar, but this level of home favouritism took the breath away.

I really hope it won't be long before the Beeb can get back the TV rights in the UK.
