The question is - How the hell did Di Mauro beat Melzer?

Murray hit 34 winners to just 22 errors whilst Di Mauro hit 30 errors to just 10 winners.....Murray hit 3 aces to just 1 from Alessio.....Murray has a higher 1st serve % :o 57% to 52% and won 82% of the points on his 1st serve compared to 47% for Di Mauro, Murray was succesful in 12 of 17 net approaches, Di Mauro 4/13...

I am very pleased about this. Notice how people seem to have forgot we have a Brit left in there? Well done Andy :) So Sg you saw the match? What do you think of Murray's chances after this?

Once again, Sam has an eye for a headline.. you really should consider working for the press.. maybe some sort of 'roving reporter'? ;)

Murray must have wanted revenge for the 6-2 6-1 defeat last year. Thsi juts shows how much hes improved

i actually only saw highlites on the internet because like you i don't have sky.....

His backhand is still very strong and his forhand is also very good, his serve % was better but could do with going in more because his 2nd serve gets eaten up by most players in the top 50, he was still hitting too many dropshots but most of the time his variety and choice selection was good, Gonzalez vs Murray is calling out for a 5 setter, and both are in brilliant form, who knows...

I watched the whole match and Murray didn't play as well as the scoreline suggests. Di Mauro played awfully - i don't think ive ever seen anyone play that badly. He was trying to use his clay court tactics with lots of loopy topspins and not changing the pace up at all and it was error after error. Murray did well to keep his concentration and he played good tennis but not brilliant - he just did what was needed. He started to lose concentration at the end and was almost broken but saved the break points with some brilliant forehand winners.

It was too easy for murray in the end. The italian was just getting the ball back in play with barely any pace and therefore Murray had ages to get in position and hit winners. Andy did start to get a little cocky towards the end with some dodgy drop shots and a better player would have punished him.

He will have to step it up against Gonzo but that match took absolutely nothing out of him - he barely moved. I'm gonna go for Murray in 4 for that match.

Don't be over-sceptical Mkk - Murray played pretty damn well and did well not to get dragged down to Di Mauro's level, which possibly happened to Melzer!

Don't forget Murray got just 3 games off this guy last year, it shows the immense improvement since then that for sure! Nothing can be read from the match with regards to Gonzalez in fairness, but I think Murray will have too much for the Chilean when push comes to shove, he's so consistent from the back of the court at the moment! :D
