Title: WOW!!! Aggi beats Baghi
Description: What did you think?

SuperBRAT - September 1, 2006 12:14 PM (GMT)
I'm amazed that Agassi pulled thsi off especially over five sets! :o Top man, well done to him and commisserations Baghi, as I do love him as a player and wanted him to go far. I really thought Agassi's pulling this off was 75% impossible, especialyl over 5 sets. I thought Baghi would have to be off to let this happen, as no disrespect to Andre but I thought he was not physically capable this year. Well I want whatever he is on!

Sounds like a classic by all accounts, inc. Mac's, but did anyone see it and what did you make of it? I'd liek to knwo as I have no SKY so can't see the USO. What was the play like, and doe sanyone think it was due to Baghi gettign cramp, or gettign tight or the crowds beign on Ag's side? Just wondered.

Also can anyone tell me how much of this drug Agassi is having and if this puts hil at risk? I thought it coudl onyl eb taken occassionally, and also mayeb that is why his emotions were like a 'jacuzzi' as he said. You knwo that cortisone steroids cause extreme states of emotion, especially euphoria liek ecstacy can? sorry if this is wrong bu this is what my doctor said to me .

9mmSuzi - September 1, 2006 12:22 PM (GMT)
Andre is a big game hunter. More so at the USO, with that shamelessly partisan crowd behind him, you can bet your last quid on him pulling something out of nothing.

This time maybe different, Nadal , Roddick, all these guyys look like party poopers.

If for nothing at all, I just like the atmosphere he brings to the court, you get the feeling something is at stake.

Tennis wise, Marcos doesn't perform well at the USO, never been his best stage, and given the fact that his playing style is similar to Agassi, I guess it comes down to whose nerves will hold.

The crowd were against him which didnt help....but I am glad for Agassi. It would be appropriate if he finishes on a high note :)

But too many 5 setters is not good......

That would be the cortisone. ;)

Great win for Andre though. I hope he goes far in this tournament but more importantly i hope he doesn't lose to a nobody...

Losing to baggy would have meant that he lost to a very good rising star who looks likely to challenge for a few slams if not win one so there would have be no shame. I hope he doesnt lose to Becker (ben) now as that would be such an anti climax :( . I wanna see him take out at least one more "big name" before he ends his run here and i wouldnt mind if that including a certain mr roddick... :ok:

Go on Baldy!

ObL!v!0N - September 1, 2006 12:25 PM (GMT)
I wasn't really shocked. I predicted he would win this game. The Agassi fairytale story just seems to keep running, and I knew he would knock out a big player. He will probably go out in the next round now though.

Mkkreuk - September 1, 2006 12:27 PM (GMT)
Come to think of it...Djokovic ending agassi's career would be ok by me...thinking ahead i know... but I have earmarked him as one who will take the tennis world by storm in the next year or two. Top 3 i hope ...along with murray of course ;)

Nick Havoc - September 1, 2006 12:54 PM (GMT)
It was a great match. The play was fantastic at times and so-so at others, but the back and forth momentum of the match and the tremendous heart that both players showed made it an exciting match to watch.

I just hope Agassi has something left for the next round, because he sure left it all out on the court last night.

And Baghdatis did, too. I think he earned a lot of fans in that match. When he was hit by severe cramps late in the fifth set, I was afraid he'd have to retire, which would have really been a shame, but he carried on and nearly even broke Agassi's serve there. Then the cramps seemed to work themselves out after a few minutes, and it seemed like it was "game on" again. But Marcos' movement just wasn't what it had been earlier, and Agassi was able to close it out.

welshboy91 - September 1, 2006 01:42 PM (GMT)
I want to know what they were talking about when they shook hands at the end of the match; Baggy was very emotional as was Andre.

dl04 - September 1, 2006 02:42 PM (GMT)
Just an exceptional match to show the quality of Agassi. not much to say really, the train is still on the tracks :ok:

I know, tis true. hate to be contraversial cos you knwo I admire Ag, but do you think that he was a little lucky cos baghi cramped and it affected his movement afterwards?

Yeah, but Agassi was two sets to nil up anyway so it was always going to be difficult for Baggy .When did the cramps set in ?

Not sure, SB. Even though he was cramping, Baggy got in some super shots. In fact, he played better then than he did when he recovered from the cramps.

A SENSATIONAL match! So glad I turned on the telly at 8.30 (CET) this morning and saw the last 2˝ sets.

And so much better than the Fed-Henman match, which looked a bit like a practice game. But at least the right man won :D

Pebs - September 1, 2006 08:56 PM (GMT)
:D hurrah for my little baldy heeeeed... from all accounts a terrific match and one for which both players deserve a

I hope Agassi keeps it going - would be a most fitting end for him.

Big Al, Baghdatis took the 3rd AND the 4th sets! The cramps came on when they were 4-4 (I think) in the 5th set.

Oh true, look slike Ag made a flying start there. I wish I could have seen it. My partner saw some when he was away and he said it was good, but he coudl not stay awake all night to see it all. I think ti si great for Ag i really do. I just thought that he coudl nto possibyl go five though. I must try this cortisone stuff! roflmao I really liek Baghi, lovely bloke and very nice on court persona. really emotional and a very grateful man you can see. I think he will be so refereshign for the game. they say Nadal has personality, but he doe snto come over as well and as nice as Baghi by a long chalk. Baghi's game is better though.

Big Al - September 1, 2006 09:22 PM (GMT)
Baggys game is well suited to the fast hard courts in the US, and a pity he's out. A great personality as well. :D

Absolutely, he was great to watch. And my God it must have been tough for him with the crowd rooting for Agassi. They were on their feet whenever Agassi was a point ahead of Baggy, and he took it so well. Amazing for a kid of that age

Its always amazed me the difference between Wimbledon and the US .Thats why winning both in the same year is such an achievement .

Absolutely.. I really can't justify subscribing to Murdoch's little empire, esp when the beeb does now show a good amount of the FO and AO..

"I watched it til the end. Fantastic. Loved it. I get nervous myself watching this stuff, like a fan. Get cold feet. I was in the bed, going under the blanket almost."

Roger Federer on Andre Agassi's five-set thriller on Thursday.

  :D

Just watching the day 5 highlights on 'US Open TV'.. Hadn't realised that James Blake had worn an Agassi-style outfit (circa 1991) and even copied Andre's blowing of kisses to all 4 sides of the court at the end of the match! It was all done as an affectionate tribute to AA, apparently..

Yes massive congratulations to Agassi - I saw some of the replay the next day - what a match!! (Much as I love him, I do worry about those cortisone shots though - I hope he doesn't end up paying for this final hurrah later on...)

Speaking of replays...this is unbelievable:

MAJOR blunder by C4 news yesterday. I don't know if any of you saw noticed the fact that with the live tennis rained off yesterday Sky were showing a re-run of Agassi and Blake's five setter semi last year. Well Channel Four News obviously did...except they failed to realise that it was a re-run. By complete chance I saw their sports bulletin on their evening news yesterday, and guess what their tennis report said - 'After beating Marcos Baghdatis in a 5 set thriller, Andre Agassi is now on court against fellow American James Blake, although he's down two sets' - accompanied by pictures of the match showing on Sky!!!!!!!

The person compiling the tennis report obviously just flicked to Sky Sports to see what was going on, saw the match (which didn't have anything on the screen to indicate it was a replay) and thought right good this'll do and shoved it in the report! No checking of official draws or anything. Unbelievable. I knew there was a reason why I'd never watched Channel Four news before!!

Yikes! :o That is a clanger by C4 news!!

Well, kudos to them for at least giving the USO some exposure here, which is more than can be said for many other news programmes (unless a Brit is involved).

Usually C4 news is excelllent. I actually met Jon Snow last year, very nice guy. I get his Snowmails each day where he provides his own take on the day's news..

However, as you rightly pointed out, someone seems to have been far too cursory with this one. D- for rushing their homework!!

I will try and find out what my upload bandwidth is.......

Depending on the size I will see if I can privately ..send out a broadcast of my reception on the games..if anyone would be interested. ;) . I will be using the tv tuner card on my pc.... I tried it before on a LAN connection and it worked brilliantly.
A few tweaks will do for a server type thing. Not mentioning any network stations for obvious reasons  .....but it is really dependent on my Upload speed :) .

:)Hey, I do have a geeky side you know... its not all just  and  ...

roflmao

Has anyone ever tried something similar by the way. some feedback will be wonderful.

Not sure about the technical stuff though.. maybe Trisco might know, (who seems to be very IT literate..)?
