Title: The USO Open is here!!! :D
Description: Discussions for this years USO men.
Scotsguy - August 28, 2006 09:09 AM (GMT)
I would have made the question who will win the USO if it wasnt for the fact that Federer would have had 80-100% of the votes.....
So the 3rd round should be according to seedings
(1)Federer vs (29)Bjorkman
(21)Gaudio vs (16)Ferrero
(12)Berdych vs (23)Tursunov
(28)Valleri vs (5)Blake
(4)Nalbandian vs (26)O.Rochus
(18)Ginepri vs (14)Haas
(10)Gonzalez vs (17)Murray
(32)Vliegen vs (7)Davydenko
(8)Baghdatis vs (30)Grosjean
(22)Verdasco vs (9)Roddick
(15)Hewitt vs (20)Djokivic
(25)Gasquet vs (3)Ljjubicic
(6)Robredo vs (31)Chela
(19)Hrbaty vs (11)Ferrer
(13)Nieminen vs (24)Acasuso
(27)Monfils vs (2)Nadal
So post your views on potential upsets, 5 setters and match analyisis'..
And let the USO begin :yahoo:
ark_28 - August 28, 2006 09:12 AM (GMT)
Cant wait for the Open cant beleive im going to be there next week this time :)
I think Federer will play his best tennis since well maybe last year and really up his level, and I think Roddick will make the final, I think Novk Djok will have a really good run this year and put himself among the group of up coming talented youngsters, but I expcect the youngster that will go furthest would be Nadal, Gasquet or Murray but if Nadal gets through his first round match then Id give him the edge of the 3
Scotsguy - August 28, 2006 04:39 PM (GMT)
So it has begun
And currently playing are
Djokovic vs Young
Fish vs Greul
And young the guy who has never won an ATP match has 2 BPS :o
Scotsguy - August 28, 2006 04:53 PM (GMT)
Young is leading Djokivic 4-2
Fish and Greul are tied 2-2
Hrbaty vs Youzhny 0-0
JymJilly - August 28, 2006 04:56 PM (GMT)
If you could predict any upsets today assuming they all play today the bottom half of the draw.
( the US Open do it weird)
What would you say?
I would predict an upset for Ljubicic
Acasuso
Nieminen
Hrbaty
Djokovic
Verdasco
Over to you

Lo's of upsets eh? :D
Ljubicic possibly, I mean I think he will coem through but he went to fiv elong sets at Wimby with Lopez.
Chela I think. If I have it right I think he is playign Wawrinka and I fancy that lad to go further than expected. And Chela is not in the best of form.

Well now that young is sevring for the set he might cause an upset....but before the match i gave him no chance...mostly because of his singles record being 0-9 and the fatc that Djoko is such a good player....
I think NAdal has a chance of being upset...
Acasuso and Nieminen have chances of being beaten but i think Verdasco will be safe
as for Ljubo, their wimby match was so close but Lopz is less comfortable on Hard ...but a potential upset could be possible
And as i have typed this Young has taken the first set off Djoko 6-4
SuperBRAT - August 28, 2006 05:15 PM (GMT)
I cant; BELIEVE thsi Yougn has taken a set of Djoko! In the BBC predictions comp most people think he'll win abotu 4-6 games! I put 8, but he has won six already! also check otu the USO site's predcitions man who says Djoko in 3! roflmao
I think Nadal could be in a lot of danger, depends hwo good Scud comes out really.
Calleri v Moya - not sure but I guess Moya coudl pull this off.
Verdasco v Santoro - this is a very tough call. remeber the 5 setter at the USO that Verdasco edged? I think Verdasco will win though, althoguh i hope it's Fabrice. Such beautiful tennis and great hands. :)
Acasuso coudl lose to Schrichapan, tough call. Ferrer is playign Almagro, and I have to say i think Ferrer will haev an earlier exit than his seeding suggests. Hrbaty, Gaudio - maybe but proabably not. I am worried about Grosjean playing ToJo though, evne if ToJo is off form.
Scotsguy - August 28, 2006 05:31 PM (GMT)
Current Scores
Fish vs Greul 6-4 1-1
Young vs Djokovic 6-4 3-5 (This is a very fast match)
Hrbaty vs Youzhny 5-5

Lopez is 2 sets up against Ljubicic :yahoo:

Thats a bit of an upset, niemenen going out. he's beein in great form this year. Bit of a lop-sided scoreline too
Scotsguy - August 29, 2006 10:46 AM (GMT)
There's a match up between 2 upset queens Pironokova ( beat Venus at this years AO) and JAckson beat Sharapova at Birmingham

I would predict an upset for Ljubicic Acasuso Nieminen Hrbaty Djokovic Verdasco
Over to you |
Verdasco is playing today so a prediction of an upset is still on.
Apart from that no more upsets today eh? Safins match looks a bit dodgy but I still think he will win.

When you look at those two names you could say in theory its destined to be a cracker. But in reality and practice I think Nadal will wipe the floor with him.
Just A hunch ;) . P. is less than 1/2 the player he was

We just dont know what we are going to get with Mark his game if on form matches up well to Nadal but he has been winning some matches, I expect Nadal to win but I think it will be farily tight maybe 4 or possibly 5 sets
JymJilly - August 29, 2006 07:45 PM (GMT)
Yes I agree . He has been playing better of late but maybe not enough of it.
The great match ups predicted are sometimes a let down. Look at Lopez yesterday.
Still I hope we gaet a good match from those two and weather permitting I will be watching it very closely. It is threatening to be good but we shall see.

Yay! :) Andre's one of the other two I'd love to see make the final...it would just be the greatest thing ever if he won his last slam, in front of his home crowd...there wouldn't be a dry eye in the house...

When you look at those two names you could say in theory its destined to be a cracker. But in reality and practice I think Nadal will wipe the floor with him.
Just A hunch ;) . P. is less than 1/2 the player he was

Thought so. Nadal did wipe the floor with him ;)

Sort of. But it would have been tougher if Scud had gotten more first serves in. Nadal couldn't touch him on first serve. And Nadal also made good on the big points, saving all the break points against him. (They each faced four break points, but Scud was 0/4 converting, while Nadal was 3/4.) It was a good win for Nadal, but showed he could be vulnerable to a strong server.

To return to the original topic of the thread - most people seem to think Fed v Rod, but I still fancy Fed v Nadal. Judging from his first match, Nadal is playing well again, and I'm not sure Roddick has the weapons to break him, while Nadal will probably get break chances in a few games.
When it goes to a tie-break, it would be interesting though: if Roddick serves well, he may have the edge there.
Agassi lifting the title, beating Roddick, Nadal, Federer on the way, would be fantastic. I'm afraid it's more likely to be the end of the run tonight for him though - let's hope he can give Baghdatis a good fight!
Incidentally, Scotsguy: I like your posts, but the *huge* photo in the signature is getting annoying - I scroll down the thread, and all I see is Seth and Summer. Here's a request for all people with photos in the signature: please keep them small and modest; after all, it should be the posts that grab attention, not the signatures.
