Isnt this old news?? I am thinking Dec last year. I thought I had heard about this some time ago.
Well anyway what about this onside coaching ( during a match) they were thinking about introducing?
Good or bad idea?

I know they want onside coachign tp spice up the game, but I have always been of the view that Ternis is an individual sport and that individual combat makes it the sport it is, im not sure coaching is the way to go as it takes aways from a lot of the mental tests that there are in the game and always have been.

I think personally that this 'Round Robin' system that they are about to introduce isn't going to be good for the game at all... It will allow big named stars that lose to get back up after and win the tournament which just doesn't seem right at all and there will be less and less surprises in the winners... womens tennis will become MUCH the prefered tennis tour if they go ahead with that mistake...

I couldnt agree more with you and I said this on another thread I feel round robin could really wreck our sport, the beuaty of it as it is now is that whether ou are ranked 1 or 500 in the world if you lose thats it your out if you win you go to the next round, all this round robin is going to do is make sure the higher ranked players more often than not dominante cancel out upsets in terms of in a tournament and make it harder for lesser ranked players to make a break through.

I'm not a fan of the RR format at all. If you lose once in a tournament, it should be over. You shouldn't have a second chance

Yes Going back to Ark's original comments. I think the introduction of this round robin format if it ever happens is not good for the sport at all. It says it allows the more popular players to get back on court. Popular to who?
Its ok for the Masters Cup and maybe one or 2 others but thats it. And reducing the amount of 5 set matches. No. We only have them in G.S anyway and the final of the Masters events.
We dont want that it would end up like the womens game and lose its popularity overnight
The 5 set matches are the best. But I agree with the onside coaching . It be exciting to watch

The womens game is very popular! And I agree with the idea of reducing the amount of 5-set matches as they can be SO BORING to watch if its not great tennis and you want it to be over... granted, you just don't watch but if there are going to be 5 hour matches between players as in the case of Nadal and Federer which then make them pull out of the next tournament, there should be a reduction in the amount of sets... I just don't like the round robin rubbish!
