You've gotta wonder how she gets these cushy draws.
Maybe they feel she brings the crowds so they don't want he to go too early <erm>

Yessssssss! :yahoo: Lindsay in Patty's 1/16, best possible scenario :D Sure it's terrible that she's got Henin-H in the 1/4s, but if she's going to win this title, she'll have to beat some big guns along the way anyway, bring it on :D
welshboy91 - August 23, 2006 05:39 PM (GMT)
Thats a hard draw for Serena and an easy draw for Big Maria
liam_valid - August 23, 2006 05:41 PM (GMT)
Kirilenko aint got too bad a draw, i reckon she should have no probs with Groenfeld

Groenefeld disposed off her at RG, but she will be easier for Makiri on a hard court.
BTW Makiri has to win two matches in a row first. Lets hope she wins her 1stround; i'm not looking too far ahead
SerenaW19 - August 23, 2006 07:22 PM (GMT)
Venus and Serena ae in opposite halves of the draw :yahoo:
So a Williams sister final it is? roflmao
Serena's draw is very winnable..until the third round roflmao
But if she gets past Ivanovic which is a big IF given current form then 4r although bad considering Amelie is the world #1; is not so bad when you look at their head to head and then Hingis in the quarters and a potential Maria semi if Maria gets past Mary. Of course this is sheer conjecture.
The two halves if the players fulfill their potential are fairly balanced I'd say. Also you really can't tell who is gonna come through either half. Perhaps how Justine fares at New Haven will give us a clue about who is gonna come through the bottom half.
Venus is a completely unknown quanity though in the bottom half. In the third quarter Venus, Jankovic, Vaidisova, Dementieva, Kuzzy or even Kirilenko could come through, oops forgot Groenefeld too (if she beat Maria). The Lindsay JHH quarter is the only one I'd put any money on and still not very much. I really want Lindsay to avenge her losses to Justine but I also want Venus and Justine to play in the semis as they haven't in so long. :)
Im more sure about Lindsay getting to the quarters than Serena or Venus; she always gets there even when she's not playing her best tennis and of course has a good seeding and a good seed to play in 4r roflmao

I dunno WB, Groenfold has won the majority of her big wins on hardcourt and considering maria's lack of form, i only see it going the Germans way.

I think out of the top 4 seeds, Justine has the easiest draw, not Maria, although she has the 2nd easiest....overall it seems that like the mens both draws are top heavy.....

| I think out of the top 4 seeds, Justine has the easiest draw, not Maria, although she has the 2nd easiest....overall it seems that like the mens both draws are top heavy..... |
Maria’s draw:
Krajicek – she could be tricky, but has been in mediocre form recently and Maria shouldn’t have any problems beating her.
Loit/Pin – do I even need to comment? roflmao
Likhotseva – she’s not only the lowest seed, but in poor form; she doesn’t have any major weapons to hurt Maria.
Pierce – Mary is short of match practice, and Maria dealt with her comfortably in San Diego.
Myskina/Petrova – Both woefully out of form. In fact, I’d expect Golovin to come through this section, who Maria should still comfortably beat.
Justine’s draw:
Camerin – no problems for Justine.
Molik – she could pose a threat with her serving and forehand, but I don’t see her causing an upset.
Sugiyama – alright, she’s not playing as well as she has done in the past, but is still a tougher opponent than Likhotseva.
Schiavone/Peer – the hard-hitting Peer could trouble Justine, though again she shouldn’t have too many problems.
Davenport/Schnyder – this is tougher than Maria’s quarter final, IMO. Despite the poor H2H, Lindsay could still beat Justine (that might be wishful thinking though!). Schnyder is in poor form, however.
I still think Maria’s draw is the easiest of the top 4 seeds, but Justine does have the 2nd easiest.
GS2 - August 24, 2006 12:17 PM (GMT)
Yeah i'd have to agree with you LDF - Sharapova has the easier draw though it's a close one. Of course that would change if Mary could find her world beater form again (I so wish she could!).
Justine definitely has the tougher QF - which surely will be against Lindsay though Sharapova v Golovin if it happens could be very interesting considering their last match.

Same thought here...but I doubt it now after examing here performance to date.
Unless sharapova plays as if she has lost the plot....it would be near impossible for Mary Pierce. And Sharapova likes to impress the americans so you should play her rugged.
Mary is not ready for that.. :(
J.H.H no problem...she has now gone way beyond fighter status. It is really up to her own psyche with Kim Clijsters out now....I am not worried about her at all.

Mauresmo... Serena can beat her! She still has quite a lot of mental power over her opponents and so against a still unconvincing Mauresmo, she should make it past her I hope...

Its not that bad for Serena... sure, Mauresmo in the 3rd she could win... and after that?
No Venus, no Justine, no Davenport, no Sharapova, no Clijsters who's pulled out...
I don't think it's that bad if she can play well...

Well sorry but I hope not. I think Mo Mo has the worst draw of all the top seeds. Considering she is deserved number one seed havign won two of three slams this year, it is rathe runfair when you look at no slams and no slam finals Maria. Well I hope MoMo wins this, if nto JHH who has a very good chance. her dra wmay seem straightforward, but she i seeded two and has been in every slam final this year, and won one so fair play to her. Davenport hardly has a trial and I dont; see any of the other favourites with a very tough draw either. Fitness is going to be a key factor this year, and I hope MoMo i sinjury free cos her condtioning has been amazing this year. Another one in with a shout due to conditioning alone is Dem, but I dont; see her beating the top players unless they are injured. Stil you never know.

Well, Li hit 51 winners to 38 unforced errors; Mary hit just 14 winners compared to 25 unforced errors. Li probably played well, but the number of winners she hit went up because of Mary's inability to run down several shots...
dl04 - September 9, 2006 09:26 PM (GMT)
Yeah, mary's movement looked so restricted in San diego( even by her standards) and her fitness was really hanging on by a thread going into new York. I guess Li just took advantage, especially with those sharp angles she creates off the backhand........
