Title: New Haven: Pilot Penn

LDF - August 20, 2006 07:30 PM (GMT)
First result:

Li Na bt Maria Kirilenko 6-1 6-2

I have to say, I expected Li to win, but not with such a lopsided scoreline :o

dl04 - August 20, 2006 07:32 PM (GMT)
Kirilenko is in such dissapointing form recently. her game just looks so uninspiring to that brash, creative game we saw at the start of the year. Good win for Li though to bounce back after that horrible loss to pelletier at montreal.

Sadly, I have to agree

This tourney is also allow the new idiotic idea of on-court coaching...

The Pilot Pen also is one of only two venues this season that the WTA has chosen to test on-court coaching. Players may request their coach on court once per set and during set breaks. During their on-court conference, they'll be wired for sound for the benefit of the television audience, Worcester said.

There are some logistics that have to be worked out.

"Where do the coaches sit? How do we get the mike to the player? What if there's a foreign language? There's a thousand issues," Worcester said. "It's just very much in its infancy. The jury is still out on whether it will be formally adopted."

Personally, I hate the idea - it just there because they are too lazy to catch and punish the cheats or they don't want to because they are too high of a ranking/popular.

BA HA HA! Schnyder lost! Does that mean she will lose points and fall out of the top ten?

GS2 - August 22, 2006 02:53 PM (GMT)
Myskina struggling against Santangelo - currently 3-3 but Ana is making hard work of it!

Chakvetadze possibly still struggling with injury as she has lost the first set 6-3 to Voskoboeva (another Russian!)

GS2 - August 22, 2006 04:24 PM (GMT)
Santangelo serving for the match 5-4 in the 3rd set!

Bloody Myskina!

GS2 - August 22, 2006 04:36 PM (GMT)
And Myskina is out 6-4 in the 3rd!

The Dav - August 22, 2006 04:43 PM (GMT)
Nastya has got to be the most inconsistent player in the elite  she really found herself on the grass, but now this, she's hinted at retirement if things don't get better, so hopefully they will...

LDF - August 22, 2006 04:49 PM (GMT)
Another bad loss for Myskina...

welshboy91 - August 22, 2006 05:47 PM (GMT)
Poor Inconsistent Anastasia...

LDF - August 22, 2006 06:46 PM (GMT)
Golovin's up 3-0 (double break) in the 3rd against Kuznetsova, after being bagelled in the opening set!

dl04 - August 22, 2006 06:56 PM (GMT)
Oh ana!!!!!! Just cant commit herself to be playing good tennis week in week out. So many unexpected losses. Santangelo is a good player but WTF Myskina :yikes:

SerenaW19 - August 22, 2006 08:24 PM (GMT)
Myskina :(

She's more erratic than Venus which is saying something; I hope she get's it back together. It would be such a loss for the game if she retired. She doesn't have to play her best tennis every week but more than once a year please.

I foolishly said looking at the draw with the US Open coming up that there was a good chance all 8 seeds could make the quarters; I appear to have jinxed them all.

dl04 - August 22, 2006 08:26 PM (GMT)
Venus aint that erratic, except at RG

Well that's where she's most erratic, true, she either plays one of the best standards of the tournie or may as well not have bothered turning up roflmao

LDF - August 22, 2006 08:34 PM (GMT)
Hurry up Marcos...

SerenaW19 - August 22, 2006 08:36 PM (GMT)

Lindsay knows how to thrill her French fans, she knows they only get to see her every few years roflmao

I must admit, I like Venus' approach at RG - Let's see if I can win by hitting 900 errors, and she almost always does roflmao

dl04 - August 22, 2006 08:50 PM (GMT)
Venus's match against Myskina was a prime example of that Dav roflmao roflmao

Sometimes myskina was walking before the ball had landed out, such was Venus's errors roflmao

Lindsay's RG run  How the hell did she make the quarters last year roflmao

I think Venus thought she could be like Mansour Bahrami, she was hitting volleys on the baseline roflmao You're in the RG quarters Venus, not a good time to experiment roflmao

I loved Lindsay's RG '05 run :D One of my favourite Lindsay memories, apart from the end that is

Thanks LDF :)

It's been good so far; looking forward to Lindsay being back in action, she said after her loss the Daniela that the next time we saw her she'd be a lot sharper so im looking forward to that.

dl04 - August 22, 2006 08:55 PM (GMT)
I love it when venus makes awful errors, her expression never changes, she's such a cool customer. No ' Arrrgghhoooooooooeahhhh ' like Serena roflmao

Yes i really enjoyed Lindsays run at RG, some of her most ungainly tennis ever, but still reached the quarters :D

Shame Pierce had to find her 1994/2000 form against her..........

Is that 900 errors the whole tournie or 900 in one match Dav?

You can never tell with Vee roflmao

The one set SW roflmao

To be fair to her, she hit over 60 errors against Pironkova and still took it to 9-7 in the 3rd, she likes to live dangerously does Vee

To be fair though, venus played some great tennis that day, her movement was superb. Kim however:

* cough* FOREHAND ABSOLUTELY AWFUL *cough*

I remember Serena beat Jen 7-5 7-6 in the Miami final one year, and she hit nearly 70 UEs :o
