About the U.S Open looming?
I think it is the second best Slam. I love it . And I think this one is going to be very interesting indeed. Roddick looks like he is coming into form nicely. Federer is looking tired. Nadal is not playing his best Tennis. This is Agassis last one. Could he go out on a high. Andy Murray could be a real threat.
Or will the 5 set matches once again sort out the men from the boys?
Or will it be the year of the underdog? At the moment you have to say Federer is still the favourite. But could someone like Ferrero make the last 4.
I think it could be Greg's last U.S open too.
Didnt we have few suprises last year.? We did didnt we :o

Second Best Slam? After Wimbers or the French?? I'd put it as the fourth best slam: Wimbers and French are, to me, the best (Wimbledon is the most prestigious, and the French is always full of surprises and frustrations for the hard court players), the Aussie has the toughest conditions, and the U.S. Open, well...is just a glorified hard court tourney!
JymJilly - August 20, 2006 05:23 PM (GMT)
After Wimbledon. Definitely after Wimbledon.
Those night matches are a sight to behold. And the crowd are so excited and noisy. And its hot . So it is tough conditions here too.
Wakeupandsmell - August 20, 2006 05:36 PM (GMT)
So even above the French? I dunno...I rate it at the bottom of my list - the night matches are sometimes nice (when there's nothing better on TV) but I would never compare the conditions to Australia...and for prestige, I'd say the French wins hands down. Different strokes, I guess - I'm looking forward to this year's: I can't wait to see the Fed dishing out tennis lessons again! :D

I put Wimby first
Just behind i put the USO
With the french and AO behind them
The USO is the 2nd best because it's generally the most open in terms of hwho does well, the french and Wimby are very polarised and only a select group of people do well at them...
ObL!v!0N - August 20, 2006 06:54 PM (GMT)
I'd go Wimbledon, Australian, US then French Open
I will be exciting, but the games will be on in the night, so it will be hard to watch most of it.

As the final in cinncy finished early they should a few highlights of the final of the U.S Open last year. I just have to say that Federer looked bloody awesome. Agassi gave him a good match but even so you have to go a long way to see Tennis played like that.
I reckon he will touch that form again this year

I might cause a stir here but the US Open is my favourite Slam (Wimbledon is 2nd) Wimbledon has the history and the tradition and the aura, but there is a certain buzz about the Open and the whole North American hard court swing that you just cant beat :) Also I like it because if you look at guys who done well at the US Open clay court player and grass court players alike have done well so its really realy does distinguish the best going around rather than the best on a surface!
sir matchstickmen - August 20, 2006 08:58 PM (GMT)
I think wimbledon is the best slam, if you had great competetive tournaments at all four slams then Wimbledon would be the best for sure ;)
Big Al - August 20, 2006 09:07 PM (GMT)
Its looking interesting all right. With the return to form of Roddick and JCF, and Murray seeded who knows what will happen. :)
Id agree with Ark that the US is the Slam most indicative of who's the best player in the world. It does seem to bring out the best in the biggest percentage of players. Sadly, I never get to see it since I dont have Sky. So its not my favourite Slam ,which is Wimbledon. B)
I think maybe we've had enough Nadal-Federer encounters this year though. ;)
odietamo - August 20, 2006 10:10 PM (GMT)
Yes totally. It’s got to be the most open slam of the year so far.
Yes it’s definitely the most even playing field, and I quite like the contrast in styles to Wimbledon, so it’s my 2nd fav after Wimbledon too.
I’m really happy for Ferrero and Roddick – it’s great to see some old faces challenging once again, and I’ve felt really sorry for Roddick this year (all the media pressure from the States couldn’t have been fun on top of his struggles for form/fitness) so it’s nice to see him playing with form and confidence again.
No doubt Federer will bring his supreme ‘grand slam form’ to the tournament, but could still be vulnerable in the first couple of rounds, and whilst I don’t think the loss to Murray will have any impact at all on his own game and form, it may well give other players that little bit of belief they all (for the most part) lack in matches against him, so it could be interesting.
Anyway, in true American style, bring it on!!
JymJilly - August 20, 2006 10:34 PM (GMT)
Yes bring it on indeed
I always mention Fleming I know but I just love his analysis after a match.
But anyway he said that Roddick coming back into form and winning Cinncy has changed the whole outlook now for the U.S Open. He is challenging again as is J.C.
I think Roddick is a good guy and gave huge praise to J.C for regaining his form again whilst having a slight dig at certain people on the tour not giving J.C the respect and credit he deserves. I think he was reffering to the fact that even though he has been no.1 in the world and a G.S winner after his comeback from injury they would not give him wild cards for certain tournaments and he had to qualify. So bravo to Roddick. And bravo to both guys and former no.1's for regainging that form once again. It will all go towards making the U.S Open a dam sight more interesting . Good luck to them

Well I get a bit excited, but hardly ecstactic because I have already had my build up and excitement for Wimbers. I think if I coudl actually get to see it rather than havign to listen to it on the radioI'd be more thrilled. What I hate aobut it is it is the least accessible slam for viewers without Sky. At least with the others, the BBC can show us some matches, whereas this is exclusively Skys so no go for the majority. Then again, if I had Sky the ads woudl drive me up the wall, it is just so commercial. However, I would rather watch USO than FO as nto a clay fan, although I do see the FO as second most prestigious, and woudl put Wimbers firmly in first place and the AO last as it never seems to catch fire being so early on in the year and this year the surface was truly awful.

No idea Jill. I don't have that. I considered it, i think you can get it on top up TV but then again some tell me that Eurosport isn't great for tennis coverage?
I'm still excited about the USO, but it annoys me that I can't see it for free. I enjoyed following last years by radio though, especailyl Agassi's progress to the final which I got money out of form a bet that peopel told me I was stupid to place. And these peopel put money on the like sof Nalbandian? roflmao roflmao roflmao
JymJilly - August 23, 2006 12:24 PM (GMT)

Nalbandian cant; be bothered to play these days it seems. Look a this Wimby perfromance, and his foul mouthed insults o tth ecrowd have put me righ toff him. Not that I ever was ma don him, he is quite a boring player to watch in general and I have never seen him as a slam winner. I mean he coudl do it, if th etop two had a bad tournie, but he seems to be having a dip at the mo.
Blake I feel is overrated. No disrespect to him, smashing guy and all and had a lot of misfortune in his life and his comeback is really commendable and shows guts BUT I just don't think he is consistent enough. I just don't feel convinced by him and unless he finds last year's form at the USO I would predict an early exit for him.
