Title: Well Done Andy R
Description: Go A Rod!

ark_28 - August 18, 2006 06:08 AM (GMT)
Well as you guys know A Rod is my favourite player and Im firmly in his corner for tonights show down with Murray. For me Andy R is coming into some good form now finally and I think he is hitting the ball better than the last 2 time when he played Murray.

That said A Rod hinself says because of Murrays recent results its probably the first time that maybe you would give Murray the slight edge he probabably has a point.

To me Murray showed a lot of guysd in getting past Ginepri, but he did look spent after the match so I do feel this is a great chance for A Rod to pull one back!!

Here for a good match and good luck to all you Murrays fans out there its been a great run for him but hopefully it will end today ;)

Goooooo A Rod!

I second that! Is anyone contemplating staying up to watch it? (apart from those lucky enough to be in the right time zone of course!)

Im staying uo to watch purely because Roddick is my favourite player and yet because all his matches have been night matches they havent been showing any until now because he has got Murray so I might as well make the most of it :)

Will they show it on sky so late??
Its not fair putting all of Andy Roddicks matches on at night. Bet he's a bit peeved off too.

Yes the match is on sky at 1am! Im pretty confident Andy will get his revenge on Murray for Wimbledon he is playing some of his best tennis of the season so hopefulyl he can keep the run going here

JymJilly - August 18, 2006 05:24 PM (GMT)
Really?
Well I will watch it then. When I wake up after B.B more than likely

Not sure about the outcome. But I reckon Murray will return Roddicks serve well. Will do better in the longer rallies and probably pass him more. I just think Murray has more variety to his game. But I also think think that Roddick has played well this week apart from that very close tie break match when he was close to the edge.
But Roddick will be much fitter. A 100% fit and energetic Murray might cause another upset as he knows how to beat him.
But at the moment that is a big MIGHT. Murray is not used to playing so many matches in one stretch

ark_28 - August 19, 2006 10:28 AM (GMT)
Solid match from Andy R really played well istepped up between the lines was much mroe aggressive than before and was a desereved winner, nice win :) and now for Gonzalez I think this is going to be tough Gonzalez is playing some great tennis right now but If Andy plays how he has been I think h can go all the way this week :)

No offence but sounds like Murray was dead on his feet last night. Congrats to Roddick though, he psychologically needed that victory really.

What did you make of the match?

JymJilly - August 19, 2006 01:25 PM (GMT)
I only saw the 2nd set as I fell asleep. But Roddick did play well but Andy Murray was dead in his legs.
A match to far for him. Like I said he is not used to playing so many matches in one stretch. Roddick has started to show good form but I think J.C Ferrero will win the title

ark_28 - August 19, 2006 01:39 PM (GMT)
I Think Murray did look tired but he still had the heart and desire, Roddick just took to to him today more than in the other two matches.

I think Gonazalez will be the toughest match for Andy if he comes through that then I think he will take out Robredo or Ferrero in the final as his game matches up real well to both he has a 6-0 record v Robredo and 2-0 v Ferrero so I think Andy could go all the way here and take the title.

As for Murray fans well it was a great week for Murray he has underlined his place near the top of the game and he is going to be around for a while so its a pretty good week for him

JymJilly - August 19, 2006 02:24 PM (GMT)
Should be an interesting evening all round. No one expected Ferrero to show such good form like he has this week.
He beat Nadal that says a lot.

Nick Havoc - August 19, 2006 02:28 PM (GMT)
I only saw the last bit of the match, and I thought they BOTH looked awfully tired. Roddick probably would have closed it out quicker, otherwise, but he seemed to be rushing his shots in an effort to get it over with quickly.

I thought so too...especially Roddick. Murray for sure has pushed himself to the wire. I look forward to an interesting USO. However, I can't put my money on Roddick just yet,,he might get a high from stopping Murray, but I still think he is mentally weak. A few more prominent wins against other top ten players could improve his overall morale. An anxious Roddick is not a pretty tennis sight, more so when his serve is fleeting away.

I have been most impressed with Murrays reflexes , especially close to the net during the series. For a tall lad, he has shown some magnificent agility. He certainly held his racket head well...obviously, he has his real head thinking straight, it would be pleasant to see him and GAsquet do well at flushing meadows.

Already, Nalbadian et al, are starting to look like old dogs. A shame, cause I don't think they have really shown their true tennis potential.

We'll see

Cheers for that. I think Gonzo is a VERY tough opponent, in fact I'd say toughest of the other three besides Roddick. He doesnt; half get fired up when he's on song and blast those winners in. He's also got great stamina and can be very intense. I quite liek Gonzo, and woudl liek to see him do welll here. No offence to Roddick, i knwo he's your fave and all. I cant; say eh is my favourite of all time, but he can be very watchable and he's a nice guy, gets insulted far too mcuh for beign stupid and all on the BBC but I disagree. I think he's got a nice sens eof humour abotu him too and I must say I felt sorry fo rhim recently, as he has had a terribel year. Must be hard for him, as the US pin a lot of hope on him as he is their number one player and has been for some time. I really wish Andy could improve his volleying though, with a serve like that it is almost criminal not to be a great volleyer, but then again I am a fan of the serve/volley so maybe I am biased. :) I also think Roddick has been unluck in his career. I mean, he was set to be number one and imo SHOULD have won a Wimby, but then Federer shot to dominance and Andy has just the one slam as a result. Look at how well he's done at Queens over the last few years, so it must be gutting to have never won Wimby, a bit liek ti is for Henman. :(

Anyway, I have no idea who is going to win this match, nor the whole tournie. All my predictions were wrong for the quarters, except that I gave Roddick marginal favour over Murray, so I wont; eb placing any bets but sadly for you I do have a Gonzo feeling! I'm probably worng though! roflmao May the best player win.

Yes when roddick is looking harrassed and uncertain. sadly it is one of the worst sights in tennis becasue you wonder how he ever achieved what he has done. I personally feel that his game lacks depth and that the volleying, whcih imo shoudl come with big serves, can let him down.

Interesting what you say re: Nalby. I coudl never get my head around why he was so successful, accept that his grinding game wore others down and he wa squite consitent for a while, but i never saw him as a potential slam winner and I still dont; UNLESS the big names are out. But I hav eno confidenc ein him now, I mean what was he playign at at Wimby v Verdasco? :o Shocking perfromance. Ljubicic is another than inspires me with nil confidence, despite likign the guy and his style of play. He's very clever is Ivan, and shame he doesnt; speak mor eon TV as he come sover so well, highyl articulate and intelligent man. I belive he is university educated? I have developed a dislike fo rNalby since Wimbers. Callign the crowd English whores becasue they wolf whistled his opponent or whatever realy doesn't enamour me to the man. And beign more focused on the World Cup than Wimbledon is realyl bad.

JymJilly - August 20, 2006 05:32 PM (GMT)
I see Andy Roddick is already 4 -1 up against Ferreo in the final

ark_28 - August 20, 2006 06:52 PM (GMT)
WOOOHOOOOO a title for A Rod and a masters he was awesome today and its just great to see him lifting a trophy again ;)

scolios - August 20, 2006 07:11 PM (GMT)
Yes, well done Andy R  That'll silence those who thought you were finished. The same goes for Juan Carlos, too  - the USO looks as if it could be interesting :yahoo:

Nick Havoc - August 20, 2006 09:48 PM (GMT)
Good job by Roddick. I hope this will boost his confidence and bring him back to a Top 5 kind of level . . .

SuperBRAT - August 21, 2006 09:50 AM (GMT)
It's a good win. Well done. But has he peaked too early before the USO?
