It's a GREAT result, I am surprised that no one is being that postive about it to be honest. Well he deserved it and whether Fed was on form or nto was immaterial really, as you've still go tto beat the guy who makes lesser players freeze or go for too much.

Well, I'm no Murray fan but I have to say that this is probably his best win albeit against a below par Federer. He played some great points and in the end deserved the victory. Don't get carried away though... he still has a lot to do and learn so he won't be winning Grand Slams just yet.
Well done Murray though.

I agree, i'm certainly not a mUrray fan, its a milestone for him nonetheless. Not in terms of ' changing of the guard ' as Murray is not really a consistent rival of Feds yet, but its a milestone for him personally.

At least it stopped Fed from bloody winning all the time

Well I have been over on the BBC board and its almost impossible to sift through all the numerous upon numerous threads about AndyMurrays win /Federers loss.
Its a shame actually that you have to look so hard to find any decent unbiased debates. They are there somewhere I think. Mr.I started a good one.

Some people think that there is an over excitement about Murrays win and that some are getting carried away. I would say rubbish to that.
It is good to be feeling excited and positive right now. It was a great win for Murray. Federer may have been a bit below par but you just cannot take anything away from Murray. His variety, range and accuracy of shot had Federer on the ropes and floundering. In short he had no answer.
Amazing to think if his first serve had been working more accurately he could have done even more damage. As it was Fed was broken 7 times. That proves above all else that Murray is a great returner and his defence play is up with the best. 41% of first serve in by Murray and he still beat Federer in straight sets. Amazing. He is head and shoulders above what Federer was at his age too
Once the excitement has died down though we still have to remember that this was a small hiccup for Federer. He has proved beyond all reasonable doubt that he is one of the best players of all time. He is miles in front in rankings titles , matches won , records broken etc. etc.
He will more than likely win the U.S Open. Andy Murray will not . Not yet. Maybe not for another 2 or 3 years or even longer who knows.
Federer has nothing to prove. Andy Murray still has to prove he is a G.S winner.
He looks well on his way though
