Title: Mauresmo, Venus withdraw from Montreal
GS2 - August 10, 2006 08:24 AM (GMT)
http://sports.yahoo.com/ten/news?slug=ap-m...ov=ap&type=lgnsNot good news for either of them in the run up to the US Open. Amelie won't be able to defend her semi final points from last year.
She joins Lindsay & Dementieva as the only top 15 players who will miss Montreal.
LDF - August 10, 2006 11:25 AM (GMT)
Amelie will still be the top seed for the US Open (as Kim can't gain any points in Montreal).
Venus on the other hand is in danger of being unseeded, but I can't see two players outside the top 32 climbing up in time.

Yeah I think the only potential ranking effect her withdrawl will have is that it gives Henin an extra help in getting to number 1 by the end of the year. Justine will have to at least defend her runners up points from last year though.

Why does Mauresmo keep pulling out of every tournament?
I expect JHH will probably pull out too later.
GS2 - August 11, 2006 08:34 AM (GMT)
http://www.henin-hardenne.be/bin/index.asp?lang=enAnd Justine pulls out - is this the most boring summer hard court season ever!
dl04 - August 11, 2006 08:49 AM (GMT)
Well it is when Kim's playing  roflmao
Still we have Serena :D
But its no consolation for Venus not playing there for me  :(
LDF - August 11, 2006 09:06 AM (GMT)
Oh Justine :(
Maria v Kim in the final?

Hi lDF
Wouldnt that be a great scenario  roflmao
I would've loved to see a Justine/Venus final in montreal...........
GS2 - August 11, 2006 09:12 AM (GMT)
When will Venus & Justine play each other again!! More than any other that's a match-up I want to see.
Justine v Serena would be great too.
It could end up with neither of those matches happening this year and then it would be 4 YEARS since they last played!
dl04 - August 11, 2006 09:14 AM (GMT)
I feel Serena is the easier match for Justine somewhat bizzarely, i feel Venus's athleticsm is always too much for Justine, even more so than Serena....
Yep havent played since the Aussie Open semis, Venus was great that day :D
GS2 - August 11, 2006 09:14 AM (GMT)
I just hope someone - maybe Kuznetsova or Pierce or Myskina or Serena (is she due to play) can stop the now inevitable looking Sharapova v Clijsters final.
maybe one of the youngsters (Golovin, Vaidisova or Ivanovic) could step and and give the hard court season a bit of a kick!
Scotsguy - August 11, 2006 09:18 AM (GMT)
:yahoo:  Wooo, Sharapova and Clijsters are set to be 1st and 2nd in the USO Series, this is the best sereis ever :yahoo:
On a serious note, it wasn't exactly hard for them with JHH and Amelie not playing a match so far and No.5 Petrova out of form......
Serena is the only competitive one so far of the 2 sisters and she 's still on the comeback road.....
A Lacklustre series, but last years wasn't all that spectacular either...
and at least there are 2 potential winners this yearr :D
dl04 - August 11, 2006 09:22 AM (GMT)
Last years was a bloody one-woman show from Stanford to the US  roflmao only pierce came close................
Pierce is a woman i'd like to see get some good wins in montreal, she was beating all and sundry last year, but she's still carrying injury and is not in her best physical shape yet. still an awesome hitter though.
ObL!v!0N - August 11, 2006 10:20 AM (GMT)
I am psychic! See, I said JHH would pull out too!
I don't think it will be boring. The boring players are out IMO, I can't be bothered to see another JHH V Mauresmo final. I hope it will be a Serena v Hingis final, that would be brilliant! Just as long as Sharapova or Clijsters doesn't win, I'll be happy.
LDF - August 11, 2006 07:42 PM (GMT)
Mary Pierce is now out too, with an abductor injury. :(

Oh crap :(
At least lindsay's stays in the top 10 :D
So thats Mary, Venus, Mauresmo, Justine out!
What a great tourny Montreal is going to be(!)
LDF - August 11, 2006 07:47 PM (GMT)
Actually dl, Lindsay will fall out of the top 10 if Myskina wins Stockholm...
But she's guaranteed a top 12 seeding at the US Open now :)

Is myskina still in Stockholm?
dl04 - August 11, 2006 07:49 PM (GMT)
Yep of course she is
Has beaten Sucha to reach the semis, and now lI is out so it looks likely myskina will win Stockholm :(
ObL!v!0N - August 11, 2006 07:54 PM (GMT)
I think it will be a good tourney actually dl :P

Yep, but no Venus..............
ObL!v!0N - August 11, 2006 07:59 PM (GMT)
Serena should get through this, she sometimes has several dodgy return games before she finds her groove........ :D
ObL!v!0N - August 11, 2006 08:00 PM (GMT)
I'm hoping for a Serena v Hingis final :ok:

Another withdrawal...Sharapova.
Right, so Kim's won the US Open Series again...
ObL!v!0N - August 13, 2006 10:12 AM (GMT)
No, Princess Fiona hasn't. I don't think she will, I guarantee you she won't. Listen to Mystic ObL!v!0N (not meg) more often.
I hope Hingis can win the title.
Buttercup - August 13, 2006 11:40 AM (GMT)
Bring on New Haven and Amelies return! :)
I wish people wouldnt call Kim that, I hope she wins the series again! :)
