Domachowska really is in a slump...she's now won 2 matches in her last 10 tournaments. Her serve seems to be hindering her greatly; she served 15 double faults in yesterday's loss. I know she likes to blast winners from all areas of the court, but it's not working, and she needs to sort her game out with a coach.

So, the big match today is Serena v Kirilenko. Maria has been out-of-sorts recently, and Serena managed to produce some good tennis in Cincinatti (it took an excellent performance by Zvonareva to defeat her). Jankovic v Mirza is also an intriguing encounter, but I see Jelena winning this comfortably, as Mirza is continuing to struggle in 2006.

ObL!v!0N - August 8, 2006 01:20 PM (GMT)
I think Dementieva will win it

Russiafan - August 8, 2006 04:26 PM (GMT)
It's interesting that Alexandra Stevenson snuck her way through qualifying. I've been surprised at how weak some of the qualifying draws have been at some of these events.

Maria v Serena... sadly I think Makiri's in for a mauling as she has gone off the boil recently.

Vasilisa's injury seems suspect, sore loser anyone?

That's immediately what I thought - unless you've broken your leg or something, at least finish the match :shrug;

LDF - August 8, 2006 10:06 PM (GMT)
Lindsay will play Samantha Stosur in her opening match, who defeated Stevenson 6-4 6-2. :)

:) It will be good to see Lindsay back in action, I hope she doesnt dissappoint.

LDF - August 9, 2006 10:09 AM (GMT)
Serena swept aside the out-of-sorts Kirilenko - can't say I'm too surprised about that result. I haven't seen any match stats, but Serena said she was hitting the ball cleanly.

Mirza's miserable run continues, though she did have a tough draw against Jankovic. I see King nearly upset Safina, but possibly got nervous in the closing stages of the second set.

Ta :) I believe she has drawn Serena in the semis :o I didnt expect a semi between those two a month or so ago. At the minute, i cant wait to get out of bed in the morning to check the US results :P

LDF - August 9, 2006 10:35 AM (GMT)
Yep, Lindsay's projected draw is as follows:

....erm....

I think you might find it would stop at the Semi's against Serena... :D

Sorry WB but your beloved Kirilenko was no match for my uber-strong Serena! Serena for LA title! :)

liam_valid - August 9, 2006 11:09 AM (GMT)
Dont count your chickens Actica, until we see how Linds plays against Stosur, we cant measure who is further on the road to recovery. I think Linds, Serena and Mary should have had a little tri-tournament of their own to test the water :D

Scotsguy - August 9, 2006 11:38 AM (GMT)
Want Lindsay to make the semis lose to Serena who then loses to Maria....

So

Maria vs Elena D
Dav vs Serens

Maria vs Serena

:D :D

I think not! Serena would always beat Sharapova on form!

S. Williams

Without a doubt its Serena. She has played a tournament already and has had time to assess her weaknesses and so should be able to play well here. Lindsay hasn't and so won't even know her level of match fitness...

But she was whipped by Zvonareva Actica, don't be so sure ;)

yeahyamum - August 9, 2006 02:07 PM (GMT)
If Serena is to face Lindsay (which to be honest, would be pretty impressive if they managed to both make it that far), I reckon Serena would take it only on the fact that she has had a little bit more match practice than Lindsay! Would be a good match to see though!

That was what I meant by her being able to assess her weaknesses. She could look back on what she had done wrong and fix them for this tournament unlike Lindsay who won't know her level until she plays Serena... if she plays her... :)

I don't think that, looking at the draw, either of them should lose any matches up until then. There are some real tests for them but none that they shouldn't win... It should be a good match in the semi's between them...

Peng is so random! One minute she is knocking out a big name, the next she is almost double bageled by Peer. Peer is pretty good but I expected Peng to go through (though I didn't mind either way).

Also Bethanie beating Flavia  I wonder what Mattek was wearing...

Scotsguy - August 9, 2006 06:52 PM (GMT)
Groenfield has taken the first set off Morigami 6-3

Bartoli is beating Craybas 6-2

Might still have to wait a while as hantuchova is really being pushed by Lisa Raymond who troubled venus at Wimbledon! 7-6(2) first set.

Actica - August 9, 2006 08:38 PM (GMT)
I really want both the Hantuchova match and the Davenport match to go quickly so I can "watch" the Serena match!

Yes, I have to say that I have been very impressed with her run in this competition. This result is another big win for her and a possible quarter final match against Dementieva will be interesting to see who will win. I expect Dementieva to win in straight sets but Mattek does have a good run going and she will know she has nothing to lose and should go all out...

dl04 - August 10, 2006 09:22 PM (GMT)
Mattek is a very sporadic kind of player, but she has some good qualities. She is quite daring in her play and likes to try lots of things on the court, some work some dont, but its admirable in this era of tennis to try new things when one particular style of play has taken presedence. She can also serve huge can mattek, had a serve timed at 120mph at Wimbledon, so she isnt without power.
