Nobody seems to be following any of these matches yet ...

Gasquet took care of the first set against Llodra.

Wawrinka seemed to be cruising against Bolelli at 3-0 up and deuce on Bolelli's serve, but now he's only up 4-3, on serve.

Donald Young made his way into the main draw. Isn't it great how the qualifying matches were delayed because of rain, and consequently in the ATP "bracket challenge", people had to pick who would win out of Qualifyer 3 and Qualifyer 4? :kpow:

Gasquet lost the second set to Llodra  and is now at 2-2 in the third set.

Wawrinka won the first set against Bolelli; seems to be going to a tie-break in the second, Bolelli currently at 5-6 40-0 on serve.

Clement took care of Falla in the quallies after losing the first set. Kiefer won the first set against Fish.

And Bolelli did indeed take the second set to a tiebreak.

mightyjeditribble - July 21, 2008 05:06 PM (GMT)
Gasquet, to his credit, won the deciding set against Llodra after giving up his lead after the first set.

I can't see the Wawrinka-Bollelli match on either current or completed matches, but I presume this means that Stan closed it out in straight sets.

Haven't watched anything yet this year - can't afford to watch much at the moment, and don't want to miss the good matches! Might consider tuning in for the Gulbis match later ... now there's a sentence that a year ago I thought I'd never say ...

Go TFOT™ !

What's TFOT by the way? Ive looked at the schedule and don't fancy anything tonight, plus Dragons Dens on in a bit. Maybe tomorrow.

It's all my fault anyway for wearing my 'lucky' tennis bow tie in the concert on the night before the final ... maybe I should burn it ...

TFOT = The Future of Tennis.

It's what the commentators were saying about Gulbis when he beat Tim Henman last year.

It was a great match - but what a heartbreaker for a Fed fan in the end! I went to the shops the other day on my bike, and just caught a bit of the match still being played on a TV screen in an electronics store - it still makes me sad!

Hopefully Rog will win the Olympics and the USO, and defend his #1 ranking until the end of the year ... that will make me feel a bit better. Rafa and Djoko have had their share of the booty for this year, I feel.

And he better let Roger have the French next year, the greedy bugger!

;) ;) :D

Oh dear, Robredo in danger of going a break down to Niemeyer - and I have him going quite far in the ATP prediction comp ...

That's five break points saved.

What do you reckon about Andy vs Djoko? Is it going to happen? And does Andy stand a chance at all?

mightyjeditribble - July 21, 2008 07:45 PM (GMT)
Gonzo takes the first set 6-2.

That should put him firmly in control.

I can't believe I'm actually hoping for a Robredo win ... and that useless ****er has to save another break point!

Which match is that?

Looks like Robredo is getting away with murder here, he's up in the first set tiebreak.

And is it going to be a tasty bagel for Julien? :bread:

mightyjeditribble - July 21, 2008 08:10 PM (GMT)
And Tommy Robredo takes the first set in the tie-break.

True! Might have been different if Benneteau had taken some of those 10 break points he had though, eh?

(Does that remind you of anyone? )

6-2 6-1; not a bad result for Gonzo. I'm feeling more confident now in having chosen him over TFOT™ . :)

Looks like the Becker-Nestor exhibition is just starting. Go Daniel! :P

I'm off to bed folks. Good night!

Oh no, and Tipsy is about to lose against Mahut as well! Bl**dy hell.

fah51 - July 22, 2008 03:42 PM (GMT)
Haas all over Moya at the moment (in a manner of speaking....)

vivahate - July 22, 2008 04:14 PM (GMT)
had a chance to see a few matches yesterday. Tipsy losing out to Mahut after valiantly taking the second set tiebreak :( next it was on to Ancic/Dancevic. some tremendous returns from the Canuck. Ancic never really looked in it. i had never seen him play before, and not his best effort. but a big dude who takes such large swings at the ball and a nice serve. to end my night i watched the first set of Lopez/Mr. Hingis. never had a chance to see Hingis play during her career, so i might as well check out one of her castaways  i will be going back on Wednesday for more.

looks like Haas and Simon had no problems with their opponents today.

vivahate - July 22, 2008 05:00 PM (GMT)
it's supposed to rain on and off all week :(

Nick Havoc - July 22, 2008 06:55 PM (GMT)
Just checked the scoreboard and saw Roddick v. Mahut underway. Roddick won the first set handily (6-1) and they're on serve (3-3) in the second. Interestingly, Roddick only had one ace in the first set. The big difference statistically seems to be the winning percentage on second serve. Both players are only hitting their first serve 50-something percent of the time, but Roddick is winning almost all of his second-serve points, while Mahut was sitting at around 36% of second-serve points won.

Nick Havoc - July 22, 2008 07:11 PM (GMT)
Roddick now serving at 5-6 to force a second-set tiebreak.

T. x - July 22, 2008 07:17 PM (GMT)
Mahut started the match with no real belief or gameplan, but Roddick lost his cool at the start of the second following a controversial overrule and it seems to have galvanised the Frenchman, who‘s now playing much more aggressively.

Roddick’s lost both points on serve and lucky net cord for early advantage Mahut 3-1. Missed the rest but looks like this could go into a third :)

Nick Havoc - July 22, 2008 07:18 PM (GMT)
Interesting . . . In a serve dominated second set, the tiebreak opens with the returner winning the first three points to give Mahut a 2-1 lead with a mini-break. He then wins his next two service points for a 4-1 lead.

The points continue to go on serve now to make it 4-3 Mahut, still with the one mini-break.

Now set-point Mahut . . .
