Title: Nottingham Live Updates

tlimvvo2max - June 16, 2008 03:13 PM (GMT)
As Dinky noted, some good players here. Maybe not Wimbledon title contenders but we'll see who else might be in form and aiming for the second week...

First up is Karlovic, currently using Bjorkman for target practice, first set 6-3 (though a paltry 7 aces).

SuperBRAT - June 16, 2008 03:44 PM (GMT)
Sound slike my kinda game. Can't bloody watch ti anyhwere though.

Alas no - though maybe posters need an easy week too

Done and dusted now anyway - 6-4, 6-3, 15 aces and no DFs.

Meanwhile Querrey is a set and a break up on "lucky loser" Falla, who will no doubt be getting counselling after this one for the trauma of getting beaten by Bogdanovic in qualifying.

tlimvvo2max - June 16, 2008 06:52 PM (GMT)

Querrey beat Falla...

Only seed to go was Mathieu, out in three to Cilic

Mahut went out in three to Reynolds so perhaps not in great form :(

tlimvvo2max - June 16, 2008 10:02 PM (GMT)
And in the last match to finish Rumpelstiltskin beat Lord Lucan 14-12 in the deciding tiebreak....

.... for all we care

Oh dear... I really must stop posting under the influence of caffeine and deadlines.

Maybe I can claim they're nicknames for Tursunov and Lu... :coat:

tlimvvo2max - June 17, 2008 12:18 PM (GMT)
Oh dear - Nishikori lost the first set 7-5 to Johansson and then retired. Nothing to keep him out of Wimbledon I hope. :(

Meanwhile Jamie Baker lost the first set to Samuel Groth, ranked rather below him, on a tiebreak after being a break up. Groth has just broken again to go 4-2 in the second.

Earlier there was some :bread: for Donald Young, beaten 6-1, 6-4 by Gilles Simon.

Oh, and Jamie Murray and Coetzee beat Butorac and Reynolds in a very close match, 10-8 in the decider. :ok:

tlimvvo2max - June 17, 2008 12:39 PM (GMT)
So Jamie Baker will head off to Wimbledon full of confidence and with his wildcard fully justified after taking the world no 308 to a tiebreak in the first set of his straight-sets first round defeat.

I mean, come on, this guy Groth is no pushover - only last November he got to the semis of the Caloundra Challenger!

Sounds fascinating. l heard Lord Lucan has a mean drop shot; his disguise is legendary and then the ball just vanishes into thin air

And who can forget the incident at Queens when Rumpelstiltskin stormed off court when the umpire got his name RIGHT

But I fear I may be straying off topic...

tlimvvo2max - June 17, 2008 06:10 PM (GMT)
Rounding the day's play up, top seed Stepanek beat Isner 6-3, 6-2; Boggo saw off Ward 6-3, 6-4 and Schhh... you know who ;) beat Nielsen 6-3, 6-3

:2quiet:

Maybe I haven't used the word "Federer" enough?

I wouldn't worry , the thread is hardly buzzing. They must all be tennised out.

tlimvvo2max - June 17, 2008 11:11 PM (GMT)
On a more serious note, sorry if anyone thought I was a bit heavy-handed in my sarcasm about Jamie Baker, in the circumstances...

Yes, great to see him back, but I do NOT see why he's been given a wild card.

tlimvvo2max - June 18, 2008 08:58 AM (GMT)
The forecast for today is pretty soggy :(

Hopefully there'll be enough of a break in the rain for Rumpelstiltskin to finish off his match against Mr Tumnus - "Rumpy" was 4-1 up in the decider when they stopped for bad light last night, getting the vital break when Tumnus was hoof-faulted.

Rumpelstiltskin will want to get this one over quickly as he's also down for the mixed doubles today in an SW19 warmup with his new partner the Wicked Witch of the East, aka Maria Sharapova

:coat:

tlimvvo2max - June 18, 2008 01:27 PM (GMT)
Meanwhile over in s'Hertogenbosch Eurosport are screening several hundred Dutch people who've gone for a picnic at a big rectangular picnic site, in the middle of which two chaps called Troicki and Ljubicic are having a knockup.

Or at least that's the general atmosphere being conveyed. I would tell you the score but from the evidence so far not even the players are that bothered.

tlimvvo2max - June 18, 2008 03:40 PM (GMT)
Back in Nottingham Karlovic beats Querrey 7-6, 7-6, serving 27 aces and not facing a BP: the second tiebreak finished 16-14.

Have made note of this on a Wimby thread also since I seem to have this one to myself

:flash:

trisco - June 18, 2008 03:50 PM (GMT)
Boggo 1-1 against Cilic :ok:

trisco - June 18, 2008 04:01 PM (GMT)
Boggo now down 2 breaks 1-4

tlimvvo2max - June 18, 2008 04:02 PM (GMT)
Thanks Trisco :ok:

Odd, that one's not on my scoreboard yet - still showing the Monfils beating Benneteau result

Can't see the 's-Hertogenbosch result for Ljuby and Troicki, either - although as I noted earlier in the thread, what I saw was so dull I suppose it might have been abandoned halfway through due to lack of interest.

trisco - June 18, 2008 04:14 PM (GMT)
Hey Tlim, have you refreshed it? He has just won the last 2 games which is better and now 3-4 down

tlimvvo2max - June 18, 2008 04:54 PM (GMT)
Still not showing

tlimvvo2max - June 18, 2008 05:25 PM (GMT)
It's showing now. Boggo lost the first set 6-4 and is 4-1 down in the second.

tlimvvo2max - June 18, 2008 07:21 PM (GMT)
Well, Boggo lost 6-4, 6-4 in the end.

Which is no disgrace, and at least suggests he'll be applauded off rather than pelted with soft food after his early exit next week :)

trisco - June 19, 2008 12:05 PM (GMT)
What time do they start today

Or is the scoreboard not working..

tlimvvo2max - June 19, 2008 04:04 PM (GMT)
Hello Trisco!

Scoreboard is playing tricks, no idea what's happening from that

But before I came to work I watched Karlovic get to the semis in three sets (he actually DROPPED HIS SERVE :omg: ) so they are definitely playing.

Shame as I really like the grass season but apart form Wimby there is no interest. Do update though, I am interested.

chokapova - June 20, 2008 10:56 PM (GMT)
Karlovic is so boring to watch though, I mean it really isn't much fun to watch ace after ace... :nope: :banghead:

Choka, re Karlovic - as I said in another thread it would be dreadful if everyone was like him, but watching a good grass-court player take that serve on is - I think - a fascinating spectacle. Monfils had a good go (but failed) - and as the Eurosport commentator said, when he broke the Karlovic serve his reaction was as though he'd won Wimbledon.

As for today, Jamie Murray/Coetzee are just starting their doubles final against Soares/Ullyett so the singles will obviously be a while yet - no doubt a rain delay.

tlimvvo2max - June 21, 2008 03:02 PM (GMT)
"The doubles Murray" lost in straights so the singles final (Karlovic v Verdasco) should start soon, weather permitting.

tlimvvo2max - June 21, 2008 03:04 PM (GMT)
In 's-Hertogenbosch the title has gone to Ferrer, who beat Gicquel in a comfortable-looking 6-4, 6-2 :ok:

tlimvvo2max - June 21, 2008 04:46 PM (GMT)
Single break of serve gives Karlovic first set, 7-5; now 3-3 in the second

I like Karlo though. I like to see a syrface specialist do well on his surface. I prefer more dimensions ideally, but I'm sick to death of baseline clay courters winnign on grass so more power to Ivo's serve

OMg Ferrer winning on grass.

I know... Ferrer... holding a grass-court trophy... what's wrong with this picture

Meanwhile a really good final in Nottingham, Verdasco takes second set in the tiebreak and we're on serve halfway through the decider :)

tlimvvo2max - June 21, 2008 05:55 PM (GMT)
3-3 in the deciding tiebreak - Karlovic has just hit his 27th ace :hide:
