Title: Queens/Halle/Warsaw live updates
Dinky Jo - June 9, 2008 11:35 AM (GMT)
Having barely recovered from the clay season we launch straight in to the grass court season (except those people who Warsaw who obviously want the clay season to last just one more week!!!) Queens has an exceptional field this year, with both Nadal and Djokovic there as well as previous champs Roddick and Hewitt :ok:
Even better news is that the BBC, in their infinite wisdom, have decided to live stream this on the interweb!!! :yahoo:
http://news.bbc.co.uk/sport1/hi/tennis/7443880.stmGood line-up today as well ,with Ancic, Hewitt and Safin ( ) all in action :D
Dinky Jo - June 9, 2008 01:16 PM (GMT)
:chesire: Ancic wins 7-5, 6-3 against Lapentti
Think Hewitt is up next.....
fah51 - June 9, 2008 01:30 PM (GMT)
Yes, Lleyton next - Petch and Lloyd talking up Josh Goodall while we wait. Ginepri, Troicki and Nishikori through to the next round.
I'm going to Queen's on Wed and Fri. Might bring Fat Dave a box of Krispy Kremes to keep him going :P

oooh - lucky you  such a good field there, it'll be great i'm usre! it looks pretty packed now in fact - the weather is nice for them as well :D
talking up Goodall doesn't appear to have done much good - he's an early break down against Hewitt. Seems odd seeing Tony Rochue sitting in Hewitt's corner
fah51 - June 9, 2008 02:00 PM (GMT)
Yeah I like Queen's, used to go regularly until a few years ago. When I went last year I was astounded by how corporate it had got - far more noticeable than Wimby in fact :(
Goodall holds serve to make Hewitt serve for the 1st set.
which Lleyton takes 6-4

Goodall has no hope against Lleyton. He has won 4 times I think, in fact I think since 200 it's been him or A-Rod.
Grosjean is back :yahoo: Love watching Seb.
Is Mahut playing?
Dinky Jo - June 9, 2008 02:46 PM (GMT)
Hewitt wins 6-4, 6-4.
I think Mahut is playing SB - check the thread on Queens I posted the entire players list :ok:
marat up next
Dinky Jo - June 9, 2008 02:59 PM (GMT)
must say i'm loving the way the commentators have been trying to talk up Ward..... Just after I mentioned that I had no sound on my feed, and what a good thing it was, the sound came on  so i've muted it...... :P
SaraLess - June 9, 2008 03:03 PM (GMT)
Very excited to be going to Queens on Thursday – maybe Friday, too!
Agree it’s a shame how corporate it’s all become – but I’m skipping with joy that’s it’s the grass court season again. I just wish it could be extended!!
:D

maybe next year we should sneak in to RG one night and cover the courts in turf....... :P
c'mon Marat!!!
Boggo playing on the other court as well at the moment
Dinky Jo - June 9, 2008 03:08 PM (GMT)
Marat got broken
:banghead: :banghead: :banghead:
fah51 - June 9, 2008 03:11 PM (GMT)
According to Petchey and Lloyd James Ward is friends with JCF and rang him up to ask for tips on playing Marat :yikes:

So you've noticed how much more corporate it is as well! Maybe it's because it's so small - they said earlier about 2000 seats go to the corporate brigade - that's an awful lot for a small tourney. Wimby Centre Court Debentures only total 2300 and not all of them are corporates.
Dinky Jo - June 9, 2008 03:22 PM (GMT)
my god Marat, if you don't win this i am going to drive down to London tonight to give you a good slapping!!! :spank: and not in a nice way!!!!
dl04 - June 9, 2008 03:25 PM (GMT)
Cannot believe Marat is a break down to a tour level debutant- and a british one to boot!
You better win you big Russian oaf! :chainsaw: :chainsaw:
Dinky Jo - June 9, 2008 03:31 PM (GMT)
:lmaao: Marat just looked so bored that game....
c'mon - this guy is ranked about 400 places below him, he should be running away with this
Ward now to serve for the set...... :peek:
fah51 - June 9, 2008 03:37 PM (GMT)
Ward's inexperience showing in this service game - 2DFs so far but Marat kindly gifts him a point at BP and then another to give Ward set point

that’s not a bad plan… ;-) I’d certainly not be opposed to the conversion!

Yes, it’s such a shame – because lots of people don’t even use their corporate seats and just use them as an excuse for a boozy day out! We really should be doing more to get people in and watching tennis live, and not sidelining so many tickets. I guess many sports are like this now, but tennis has never been the most accessible in the UK, and this doesn’t make it any better.
Safin… :yikes:
And Boggo doing his usual i.e. not much

DJ, just go over there and give Safin a thrashing
Not for pleasure mind ;) roflmao
fah51 - June 9, 2008 03:47 PM (GMT)
And Marat breaks
I always forget every year that Marat doesn't like grass - I wonder what surface he really likes
JediFed - June 9, 2008 03:48 PM (GMT)
This Ward is good. The most remarkable thing is his attitude. Looks as if he thinks he should be winning this like he's a regular tour player not like the usual Brits who look as if its their only time to shine in a year and the crowd cheers somewhat patronisingly...
His groundstrokes too are very good.

Hardcourts, but he's done jack on that this year as well
He actually states clay as his favourite surface, but he has his most major implosions there :yikes:

A few years back I won a VIP package to the final through some BBC competition. There were about 12 people who were invited and we were the only table who rushed through lunch so we could watch the match ;)

He seems to be OK - a break up and consolidates by holding to love.
fah51 - June 9, 2008 04:30 PM (GMT)
Boggo's gone ...
Tipsy up on one of the outside courts. Hope he wins - I might get to see him on Wed.
Pebs - June 9, 2008 04:57 PM (GMT)
all these lovely players so near and yet so far...
Safin through then after giving his fans a little scare  and Tispy now on court - although - he may be a break down at the moment...
Grosjean now on court too - always nice to see his name down :)
