Hi nevets its her right arm, she is away back to Serbia for treatment... :(

I have tickets for the final but Jelena has pulled out, Maria and Safina... :(

nevets - June 8, 2008 10:11 PM (GMT)
I thought it would be treatment for her arm but I guess a week without playing on the tour could do her good.

I really don't know who will make the final - nearly all of the top eight seeds are in pretty poor form.

Janko and Safina out of the draw certainly takes away a lot of the gloss.

SuperBRAT - June 9, 2008 01:39 AM (GMT)
Yes indeed. It does not look likea major crowd pulling draw.

Where's Shara?

Dinky Jo - June 9, 2008 06:34 AM (GMT)
Radwanska was on the original entry list as well, and she doesn't appear to be playing either

Where's Shara?

Over the weekend, I read a statement on her website that she is not playing any grass tournament until wimbledon. If that is a wise decision who knows. However, she likes to feel fresh before these slam tournaments now, and is being very selective or should it be picky this season.

GS2 - June 9, 2008 07:08 PM (GMT)
It's a pretty good day for all of the British girls really.

Baltacha & Elliot may not have won but they kept things tight - there seems to be a lot more fight in these ladies than we have seen in the past.

Will be interesting to see how Keothavong does against the younger Bondarenko tomorrow.

Grass doesnt suit Bammer's game at all, she has this massive take back with the racquet and has so little time to prepare for her shots on this fast surface. Still, losing to South who's probably the worst mover i've seen on the WTA is a bit of suprise

British girls seem to be doing well though, even if their number one slumped

Cavaday in particular looks particulary good.

Not a good day for the Austrians at all...

Russiafan - June 10, 2008 11:07 PM (GMT)
Well done Mel - she really seems to thrive in big situations - beating Schiavone at Wimbey in 2006, Molik at Eastbourne last year, and Bammer now. Anne on the other hand seems to wilt - she did so well last week to reach the final of Surbiton, and looked to be in good form, but as she did in Paris (after winning a 50K title on clay) she failed to deliver. Hopefully she will do well in Holland next week, away from the pressure of playing in UK.

As for Paszek losing, well Tammy is experienced on grass but shouldn't have won more than a set against the precocious Austrian...ah well...despite her obvious talent, I have not yet warmed to Paszek (probably due to her beating Elena at SW19 last year after the rain delay) so can't say I care.

trisco - June 11, 2008 03:11 PM (GMT)
Cavaday and O'Brien are out :(
Both losing in 3 sets

I put the third result here as I was a bit  by that one!

Rao Ind
bt Cavaday GB
4-6 6-3 6-1

Shvedova Rus
bt O'Brien GB
7-5 1-6 7-5

Erakovic NZ
bt Mirza Ind
6-3 6-0

T01 - June 11, 2008 03:30 PM (GMT)
Katie came back from 1-5 down to level the match at 5 all,but then onthe final moments didn't do well.

Well done to her.

Naomi should have won the match.

Russiafan - June 11, 2008 04:27 PM (GMT)
Erakovic won Surbiton last week and reportedly has a game suited to grass - big serve etc.

In other news Bartoli falls in three sets to Cetkovska, her slump continues...

Tamasugarn always sees to do best on grass but it appears as though Paszek is on a downward spiral this year.

I remember Paszek having match point against Jankovic in that great match at the AO.

Yeah, arrests a six match losing streak. If Nicole applies herself this grass-court season it could be so fruitful for her. Her serve in particular is such a huge weapon on this surface. At times it can be unplayable.

Hope she does well.

Tennis_Mad_Andy - June 12, 2008 08:15 PM (GMT)
Melanie South is doing awesome :) I think she will break into the top 100 within the next year, I think she will be the best British womens player we have next year, Anne is doing decently but she doesen't seem to be stepping up a gear and breaking into the top 100 and beyond, I think Melanie is more capable of doing that and I really hope she does :)
