Title: Hewitt may skip Argentina tie

Nick Havoc - July 25, 2006 05:57 PM (GMT)
Apparently Hewitt may back out of going to the Davis Cup tie in Argentina because of "security concerns." Given his track record of run-ins with Argentine players, I'm sure he would not be warmly welcomed there, but do you think he is really concerned about security risks, or does he just not want to play in front of such a hostile crowd?

And if he does go, does this news report about his reluctance make the crowd more hostile or make them behave better, to try to prove he was off-base with his worries?

Typical hewitt, moan, moan, moan

I have read up on this and on balance I dont; blame him fo rhsi concerns. i knwo he is no angel, but you can hardly call Coria, Nalby or Chela model citizens on court can you? Coria i smardy and a bad loser, Nalby calle dthe audince at Wimbers English whores! :o Not ou rfault he coudl nto be bothered to play was it? roflmao Well whoever was to blame fo rthese altercations that have happened between Hewtitt and said players is immaterial, as one paper says that the Swedish team almost came home as Wilander was concerned about security issues fo rhis players in Argentina. it is said that the fans start on the players at the behst of one Diego Maradonna, the greatest example fo sportmanship we have ever seen ;) himself! I also read that Nalby is not helping by talking this up saying that they want Hewitt out there, and also that the Argentine press has a top five list of it's most HATED sportsmen - Hewitt is five, and Beckham :o is four!

Sounds like a potentially volatile situation to me if all this is true.

Agreed, SB, I don't think that he should go either..

I mean, Nalbandian's stance on the whole thing is really menacing.. I really don't like the sound of it at all.. kind of like the school bullies waiting around to beat up a kid as he leaves school..

He may well be on a hiding to nothing going there as the Oz team is hardly great shakes.. and he probably is best to concentrate on the hardcourt season in the US..

Also, SB, I read up more on the Nalbandian incident.. A group of women had take a real fancy to Verdasco, and were cheering him on.. and this is the scenario where Nalbandian showed his true colours.. (light blue and white, I believe..) The more I read on this, the worse it gets.. seen the story coroborated in several other publications. and the umpire was French and understodd what he said.. and gave him a warning for it..

Grr...!

Hey petalp,

Yes they are saying Nalby is being meancing and that is putting Hewiitt off. Well after that stuff at Wimbers I have gone right off him. I used to think he was okay (although not enamoured by his workmanlike tennis style) but now I just think he is a foul mouthed and arrogant pig to be honest. Was he jealous of the ladies going for Verdasco then? roflmao I think the name that my friend mad eup for him is more appropriate than I ever thought - Nob-end-ian!!! :D Tickles me that does!

I read on one link that when Hewitt had the Nalby altercation, where they clashed shoulders, that Hewitt alledges that Nalby moved in such a way as to force the clash to happen. I knwo Hewitt is fiery, but I can see Nalby doing that can;t you? I think it's feasible that the Argentines have gone out of their way to wind him up, from what i have read, they alredy had it in for him during some matches where incidents kicked off, and some of the players were losing at the time.

It is true that Aus don't have a huge chance, but they do have a chance though. I mean Nalby and Coria are well off form and can;t string a match together sometimes. And Hewitt did well on clay didn't he at the FO. Teh team doesnt; have the depth though and Hewitt woudl nto eb abel to win single handedly if at all.

Well we'll see what happens. If you hear anythign on this let me know. Btw haven;t forgot your Pm, I crashed out last night earlier than planned and I'm just popping on briefly for the mo. See you later :) l

roflmao Yes it is funny isn't it? I think George said it first but I dont; remember. Everytime he is on though George says oh no, not that boring b****** Nobendian again! I dont' think he likes him much do you? roflmao I must go to Wimby when he is playign and shout Nobendian at him when he's about to serve. He'll probabbly call me an English whore, in which case I'll giv ehim what for and he won't mess with me again! roflmao

Fair enough dl if you think Hewitt is making a hoo-ha over nothing, I know you don't like him much :D But what do you think of the Argenitine's behaviour in the past as well?

i seriously doubt whether he's really that concerned about his safety. Lets face it he's not ahving the bes tof years, falling down the rankings and given the weak aussie team even with hewitt in the side, argentina would be faves for the tie so he probably feels it would be more worthwhile focussing on getting his ranking back up.
