Title: Blake v. Roddick
Description: Indianapolis Final

Nick Havoc - July 23, 2006 01:17 PM (GMT)
This should be an interesting match-up today. I'd like to see Blake win it, but I think it could be a good psychological boost going into the US Open warmups for whoever wins.

Nick Havoc - July 23, 2006 06:49 PM (GMT)
This one is underway. 1-1 in the first at the moment.

Nick Havoc - July 23, 2006 06:54 PM (GMT)
Actually, either the scoreboard is stuck, or this match is suspended. Is there bad weather in Indy?

welshboy91 - July 23, 2006 07:03 PM (GMT)
The Cincy scoreboard was wrong aswell

A-Rod has taken the 1st set 6-4, its 5-4 Blake in the 2nd

welshboy91 - July 23, 2006 07:08 PM (GMT)
Blake takes the 2nd set 6-4

Hiromiku - July 23, 2006 07:10 PM (GMT)
GO JAMES

He's now world number 5 I think :yikes: :yikes: :yikes: :yikes: :yikes:

Nick Havoc - July 23, 2006 07:10 PM (GMT)
Sounds like a good battle. I'll have to see if I can find it on TV somewhere and maybe catch the third set. :D

welshboy91 - July 23, 2006 07:10 PM (GMT)
Blake will be world number 5!!?!?!?!

welshboy91 - July 23, 2006 07:11 PM (GMT)

Yeah.

Better than Davydenko.

Hiromiku - July 23, 2006 07:16 PM (GMT)
When i think of it, he could soon, after this tourney, be world number 3 :yikes:

welshboy91 - July 23, 2006 07:16 PM (GMT)
doubt he'll be world number 3...

he could if he wins Washington DC and Ljubo gets eliminated early...

That'd take him to number 4(I think).

Then, there isn't a far way to make it to number 3.

Hiromiku - July 23, 2006 07:18 PM (GMT)
And Washington is one of his favourite tournaments.

Wouldn't be surprised if he'd win it this year.

welshboy91 - July 23, 2006 07:22 PM (GMT)
2-2 in the 3rd set

petalp - July 23, 2006 08:43 PM (GMT)
..and Blake wins!! 7-6 in the third set..

Good result for Blake.. nice guy, popular winner, I think.

And encouraging for Roddick too.. hopefully he can get some confidence back. I read that he had been doing a lot of work in rebuilding parts of his game. If that is the case then it will be interesting to see how it shapes up. Hopefully it will prove to be successful; I have a lot of time for players who do put in the hours and take the risks to change things.

I would probably be good for the USO (in terms of level of interest over there) if both Blake and Roddick were to get to at least the last 8 of that tournament.

Sounds like a great match.

Agree about US Open needing the home players to do well. Encouraging signs with Ginepri and also Serena doing well this week.

JymJilly - July 23, 2006 09:16 PM (GMT)
Wow did Blake beat Roddick then . Poor Roddick . Not having a good time of it lately is he?

Big Al - July 23, 2006 10:29 PM (GMT)
Maybe Blakes the better player ?

Not so sure about that. I haven't done the math, but I know that there was a fair gap between Blake and Davydenko/Ljubicic. Plus Blakes list of points from "other" events was already pretty full. I don't think he'll be able to pass Ljubo that soon.

Made a mistake...

Blake is still a long way from being number 3

Hiromiku - July 24, 2006 03:10 PM (GMT)
Or 4

It will be interesting to see how Blake does in the masters events and US Open this season. Unlike last year, he'll have direct entry into all of the masters events, so he'll eventually have to drop out a couple of his "other countable tournaments."

He should be in Washington DC, after all, that's his predilection tournament.
