Title: ROME battle Of The Boards

trisco - April 28, 2008 02:54 PM (GMT)
Just to make you aware if you weren't already. There is another BOTB coming up for Rome next week. If you can please enter on Saturday or Sunday when the draw should have been completed.
If you can't complete over the weekend but would still like to contribute I think you can enter now but you are entering blind (basically filling in the draw without knowing what players are in what slot so probs not recommended and only use now if you definitely cannot complete over the weekend)

You may have a chance up until Monday morning to enter but this will be confirmed nearer the time on the britishtennis.net website.

http://www.britishtennis.net/Competitions.html

Thanks for entering the last one folks and helping CC win for the first time! :yahoo: :ok: Hopefully we can do just as well next week

Anyone can enter, the more the merrier. :D

I think I'm finally going to give this a whirl, since as far as I can work out, if I lay an egg on the scorecard it will only be my embarrassment and I won't be dragging the CC team score down with me...

Okay, who am I to argue? :P
At least it gives me a chance to puzzle a whole new bunch of folks with my user name

Actually I'd rather have the Lanterne Rouge, if that's an individual award - as a big cycling fan I'd appreciate that one.

WimbledonAce - April 28, 2008 08:08 PM (GMT)
I can't wait !!!! Lets try and get our biggest entry for Rome :yahoo:

Dinky Jo - April 28, 2008 08:15 PM (GMT)
:ok:

When people get the e-mail through saying we can enter could they make sure they post an update please (if it hasn't already been done!) :)

It looks like the best time to enter will be sunday evening, but I think the draw should be available on the Saturday if you want to enter before the qualifiers are placed in the draw. So keep an eye out over the weekend :D

WimbledonAce - April 29, 2008 08:57 PM (GMT)
I never get the email, not sure why!

Lex who's not on his own pc - May 1, 2008 05:26 PM (GMT)
is the turkey award for the person who comes bottom or for the person who dropped the most number of places?

WimbledonAce - May 1, 2008 07:42 PM (GMT)
Lol can you imagine doing completely blind picks! Would be a hoot! :dohh:

Lex as before..... - May 1, 2008 10:33 PM (GMT)
you mean there's another way? :o

chokapova - May 3, 2008 01:03 AM (GMT)
B) cool

Dinky Jo - May 3, 2008 07:54 AM (GMT)
Just to let you know - the draw comes out today at midday CET, so keep an eye on this thread (or your e-mail inboxes) for details of the Battle of the Boards. Please note that qualifiers won't be placed in the draw until tomorrow evening, so Sunday evening or Monday morning will be the best time to enter :ok:

I've just sent the email to those who asked to get it as soon as entries open - those who asked to get it only after qualifiers are placed will receive theirs tomorrow.

Just looking into why two of you haven't been getting the mails despite thinking that you asked for them:

Superbrat - I think it's probably because you've left a typo in your email address on the entry form - at least, I assume the domain is supposed to be btinternet.com and not btineternet.com despite you typing in btinetnernet for the last two pick 'ems ... ;)

WimbledonAce - it's because you didn't pick any of the notification options when you entered Monte Carlo and you had made an error on the Miami entry form (either two picks for one match or no picks for one match, I can't easily tell any more) and while that was corrected, it throws the cell your email preference appears in too.

I've corrected/added you for the Rome mailing, so you should both have got it this time.

steven - May 3, 2008 04:22 PM (GMT)
Oops, talking of typos ... ;) the second wrong domain has an additional typo in it, sorry about that.

Happily, we are able to keep entries open until mid-day UK on Monday this time (no silly Sunday main draw matches or morning starts - Mandy Muppet would be well in if he hadn't gone and drawn Rafa in R3!), so hopefully everyone who wants to enter will get the chance.

Thanks Steven, I am such a d*ckhead!

I'm at btinternet.com, I'll ensure I do it right when I enter next.

Pebs - May 3, 2008 10:40 PM (GMT)
for those who dont get the letter and want a looksee:

Entries for our Rome AMS pick 'em competition are now open. You can access the entry form via http://www.britishtennis.net/Competitions.html - you can find a link to the post-Monte Carlo overall pick 'em rankings there too. The results at the end of day 1 will be accessible via that same link before the start of play on day 2 (i.e. Tuesday) and intra-day updates will appear from Tuesday onwards.

IMPORTANT: In order for your ranking points from this competition to be combined with your ranking points from earlier pick 'ems (which will be to your advantage even if you didn't do that well in past pick 'ems), you need to enter with EXACTLY the same name as you used for previous pick 'ems - even an extra space or a single missing character may be enough to throw the system. If in doubt, please copy the name after the 'Hi' at the top of this email and paste it into the entry form. If you want to change the name or team you use for pick 'ems permanently, please email btpickem@hotmail.com after you enter to let us know what you have changed it from or to instead of just entering with a new name and hoping that we spot that it is the same person!

PLEASE TELL YOUR FRIENDS Because of the tight timescales and the ever-increasing number of boards/forums taking part, I won't have time to go round and advertise this competition everywhere as I have done in the past, so if you think that other people from your board/forum might like to take part too, I would be really grateful if you would set up a thread or post about the competition there if nobody else from your board has already done so.

ENTRY DEADLINE The main entry deadline is when play is due to start in the main draw, i.e. 12 noon UK time, (11.00 GMT / 12.00 BST / 13.00 CET / 07.00 US Eastern / 04.00 US Pacific) on MONDAY. Because of the much longer entry window than we had for Monte Carlo, no late entries (even with penalties) will be accepted after the first main draw match has started this time.

LATE CHANGES TO THE DRAW If you can, please use the Print button at the bottom of the entry form to print your picks before you send your entry so that you have a record of them. The page you will see after sending your entry will explain what your options are if there are any changes to the draw due to late withdrawals before play starts.

NEXT PICK 'EMS AFTER ROME We don't run pick 'ems for AMS events in consecutive weeks, so there will be no pick 'em for Hamburg AMS. Hence, the next pick 'ems will be for the slams at Roland Garros and Wimbledon - it is fairly vital not to miss these if you are at all interested in your overall ranking! If you want some more practice before Roland Garros, there is always the ATP bracket challenge (which runs for all the AMS events but not the slams - Linda, our Monte Carlo winner, finished well inside the top 50 of the ATP challenge for that event) or the various other competitions that I know are held on some of the boards/forums that take part in our pick 'ems.

Good luck :-)

Steven

Great thanks, that explains it. I did think I made a choice for Monte Carlo but obv not. Have got the mail this time anyway. Think I will prob wait till qualies are placed unless it gets too late in the day.

WimbledonAce - May 4, 2008 05:11 PM (GMT)
Qualies are done - see the Rome site for draw!

Dinky Jo - May 4, 2008 06:22 PM (GMT)
done mine - some of the picks are REALLY hard!!!! have got Rafa winning it :)

WimbledonAce - May 4, 2008 06:25 PM (GMT)
Done mine too, for some reason I am favouring a lot of the qualifiers! Also kept changing some so had to draw a line! I also have Rafa as champ.

Pebs - May 4, 2008 06:28 PM (GMT)
I am in and my champ is Rafa... watch Djoko win it now after I favoured him over Rafa last time

Dinky Jo - May 4, 2008 06:35 PM (GMT)
apparently we're one of the 4 biggest teams

My entry's in... some hard choices there ..I picked Rafa to win though I still think Federer has a great chance .
I didnt have Mahut, Murray or Tsonga going further than round 2 so watch them do brilliantly now

Ive got Mahut going out straight away, he let me down the other week so it's payback!

Dinky Jo - May 4, 2008 10:00 PM (GMT)
well i had faith in Nalby last time and he let me down, so i've gone for Fed winning this time - sod's law says that it';ll all go hideously wrong

WimbledonAce - May 4, 2008 10:05 PM (GMT)
There were loads of tough picks this time, I seemed to take ages! I am extremely worried about Gasquet and Gonzo but have given them the benefit of the doubt.
Karlo/Mathieu, Tursy/Acasuso, Stepanek/Nieminen, Ancic/Lopez, Safin/Warinka, Ferrero/Kiefer all gave me headaches
I need Almagro to have a great tournament, I think I may have got a little carried away with him! :yikes:
And I had the top 4 in the semis which I thought couldn't happen again so had a little play and got rid of one. Fingers crossed right choice

me too, and Murray

tlimvvo2max - May 4, 2008 11:26 PM (GMT)
Okay, I've entered!

:peek:

Nothing particularly radical, have assumed Murray still hasn't got his act/head together so he goes out to Wawrinka in R2; three of the top 4 in the semis, exception - which I spent a while on - is Gonzalez instead of Djokovic. This is admittedly daring, arguably just plain :bs: as it probably means Gonzalez has to beat Tipsy, Soderling, Nalby and Nole in successive rounds, but we'll see...

You clearly haven't been playing pick 'ems long enough to realise that the primary aim of all the French players is to play so badly when you do pick them that they tempt you not to pick them just as they are about to win. Dammit Gasquet is a past master of that art.

Entrants so far, with 11 hours to go (127 from 21 countries) - the first % in each line shows the percentage of total entrants in each team, the last % shows the change so far compared to the total entrants that team had for Monte Carlo. The line shows which boards already have enough entrants to count for the team competition, though every team will no doubt welcome more!
