Title: Barcelona and Munich updates
tlimvvo2max - April 28, 2008 12:36 PM (GMT)
Morning!
And to get us under way, Lapentti is 4-2 up against Verdasco, against whom he has a 0-3 record.
Marcos Daniel just starting against Ivan Navarro
:coffee:
Ventura ditto vs Gimeno-Traver
:dohh:
Dinky Jo - April 28, 2008 12:37 PM (GMT)
Afternoon Tim
I've just changed the topic title to include Munich as well - hope that's ok, i'd hate for them to get forgotten :P
tlimvvo2max - April 28, 2008 12:44 PM (GMT)
No prob, was just wondering whether to start a separate thread actually :)
So, over in Munich Cilic is a set up on Rochus... if they posed for a pic before the match it must have looked odd as Cilic is about a yard taller. OK, 11 inches actually but that's still something of a contrast
tlimvvo2max - April 28, 2008 01:06 PM (GMT)
Cilic beats Rochus 6-4 6-4, 10 aces with no DFs might have something to do with it. :)
trisco - April 28, 2008 01:11 PM (GMT)
I can't seem to find what happened with Verdasco and Lapentti? Are they still playing?
tlimvvo2max - April 28, 2008 01:19 PM (GMT)
Highest-ranked player we've seen so far today about to start in Munich against the lowest, Mathieu vs Brands, 18th-ranked vs 209th. Home advantage may not count for much I suspect.
tlimvvo2max - April 28, 2008 01:20 PM (GMT)
Trisco, Lapentti is 6-3 and 3-2 with a break up on Verdasco, although the scoreboard is only updating occasionally.

Scoreboard shows Lapentti up a set and a break at 6-3 3-2
tlimvvo2max - April 28, 2008 01:28 PM (GMT)
And some early :bread: courtesy of Daniel Gimeno-Traver, who beats Santiago Ventura 6-2 6-1
If we're looking for our weekly GOAT, both those players have those letters in their names - yes, since you ask, it IS an unusually slow day at work here :P
fah51 - April 28, 2008 01:30 PM (GMT)
Talking of potential GOATs did you know there is a younger Granollers-Pujol?

Dinky Jo - April 28, 2008 01:40 PM (GMT)
Just having a quick look at matches already played, and in Barcelona Ancic, Chela, Tursunov and Haase all won their matches. In Munich Cilic, Seppi and Vliegen all won their main draw matches, and i notice that El Aynaoui also won his qualifying match :ok:
tlimvvo2max - April 28, 2008 01:42 PM (GMT)
Thanks DJ...
Lapentti now serving for the match against Verdasco.
tlimvvo2max - April 28, 2008 01:45 PM (GMT)
Wawrinka about to start against Jose Antonio Sanchez de Luna, about whom the ATP site can tell us nothing except ranking (293) and age...

fah51 - April 28, 2008 01:50 PM (GMT)
So Andy is up against Ancic next (again) - could be interesting...

Presumably so.
Lapentti serves out the win against Verdasco, a good scalp for him that.

No, he's a qualifier :)
Barcelona WCs are ~Blake, Ancic, Murray and Alberto Martin.
And JCF appears from the draw to have withdrawn.
fah51 - April 28, 2008 02:01 PM (GMT)
Gremylmayr is playing Ramirez-Hidalgo - I'm sure Rog is watching with bated breath ;)
Is Lapentti on the comeback trail?
tlimvvo2max - April 28, 2008 02:03 PM (GMT)
Thanks fah51, apologies to JAS de L... who has just been broken by Stan.
Dinky Jo - April 28, 2008 02:04 PM (GMT)
In Munich Del Potro vs. Clement has just started - with DP a break up. Also Bolelli vs. Gicquel is with serve in the first set although Bolelli did just have a set point on Gicquel's serve.....

Yes, I wondered that too :)
Mathieu not being too rough on home hope Brands (well, he's another big lad) but goes a set up.

No worries Tim :ok:
Apologies to any Spaniards but some of their names really crack me up! I just looked up the Spaniards on the ATP Rankings page and there are some really good ones. Yes things are slow here today too :)
Miss Suzi - April 28, 2008 02:17 PM (GMT)
Actually, his name made me think of gremlins... (not meant to be rude...just the thought came to mind.)

there was a junior from Thailand playing in the US open called Kittipong Wachiramanowong - which comes close to the best name ever!
My faves on the main tour have got to be Mardy Fish - although the crazy puns that start on here whenever he plays (you know who you are :P ) are making me like it less. and of course the CabbageWriter himself..... :giggle:
Dinky Jo - April 28, 2008 02:27 PM (GMT)
Stan takes the first set 6-3
Hidalgo a break up on Gremelmayr
Del Potro a break up on Clement
Mathieu a break up in the second set against Brands

Mathieu wins his match 6-3, 6-3
Bolelli currently a break up on Gicquel
Del Potro takes the first set 6-3
Stan has just been broken by Luna at the start of the second set

I always pitied the athletics commentators who got the races of Nicole Ramalalanirina - not the easiest name to deal with in the space of a 100m hurdles race :yikes:

Sometime this year (I think) there was a first-round match between Karlovic and O. Rochus. I thought that was close to violating Olivier's human rights ...

Lapentti taking out Verdasco ...
