Title: Swimming World Championships

Anyone else been following this? I only found out it was on a couple of days ago. Is being held in Manchester this year. There is a limited amount of coverage on BBC2 and then more on interactive. GB have been doing brilliantly so far, in fact had the most medals last time I checked. Really encouraging :ok:

Yes, I have been totally enthralled in the swimming (even watched it over Amelia Island last night!) 19 medals and about 30+ NR's.

I keep missing the coverage, as you say there isnt that much :( Good for GB though, swimming is a sport we are capable of doing well in and this sounds like things are on the right track. I've liked swimming since the 70s when as a kid I recall Mark Spitz getting I thnk 7 golds in oen Olympics? And Duncan Goodhew, who came to the local pool where i used to swim myself, lovely bloke. And Adrian Moorhouse.

Quite a lot of the coverage was on the interactive service.
We finished with 3 gold medals, 10 silver medals and 11 bronze medals. Certainly not bad at all. I think we have quite a few medal chances in Beijing, as it is worth mentioning that not all of the world's best were in Manchester e.g. Phelps, Hackett, Bernard, Jones, Manadou etc.

We've got a chance for some medals certainly, but looking at it the Americans got 10 gold medals *without* Phelps there? :o I would expect we'll be getting lots of places in finals, a few bronze and silvers, possibly golds? but I would think it'll be an American/Australian dominated sport come the Olympics

And no doubt some unknown Chinese swimmers will come out of the woodwork to grab a few medals then disappear into obscurity again .
I certainly believe it'll be a better champs, swimming-wise, than Athens, when I think we only had five finalists in the whole programme! We did have a few performances which were under the WR, only to be beaten to the line by someone else!

I know there were some big names absent but was good to see the youngsters coming through non the less. Well done :ok: And Hackett was there, just not swimming ;)

Yes, he was a pundit instead!
This open water 10km race in Beijing sounds interesting.
