Description: c'mon own up

Lex - April 9, 2008 11:28 PM (GMT)
thought this would be a sort of anathema to the never to be missed fims..

which films have passed you by?

I have never seen..

Citizen Kane
Casablanca
Philadelphia Story
Cabaret

amongst others..

how about you?

Dinky Jo - April 10, 2008 07:13 AM (GMT)
all of those!!!!

plus numerous others i'm sure.....trying to think now

Lawrence of Arabia
Gone with the Wind
It's a wonderful Life

I'm useless when it comes to watching films i really am......

Pebs - April 10, 2008 08:39 AM (GMT)
I sooooo wouldnt recommend Citizen kane - stupid Rosebud....

actually, I probably would - its hard to appreciate as a student, in a room full of people baaaaing like sheep

I'd quite like to see - um... is it The Thirty Nine Steps? something like that. And I havent seen most of the films either - films that people tell me are classics and I should watch tend to put me straight off them...

Tenez - April 10, 2008 08:40 AM (GMT)
ET
Indiana Jones

Never have....never will!

Harry Potter - April 10, 2008 09:22 AM (GMT)
ET (looks daft tbh)

Star Wars Episode V, VI, I, II, III (never will, the first one's shite imo)

Lawrence of Arabia (always resented the fact that it beat To kill a mockingbird at the oscars - got to see it though, I've loved every David Lean film I've seen)

Citizen Kane (got it on DVD so I'll watch it some day)

The Bridge of River Kwai (another David Lean classic - couldn't possibly bring myself to watching it)

BIG-TODGER - April 10, 2008 09:56 AM (GMT)
Citizen Kane -like most people found it boring, and stopped watching.

Gone with the Wind -frankly i just don't give a damn!

Taxi Driver -Maybe it's not a classic, but i've never seen it.

Scotsguy - April 10, 2008 09:58 AM (GMT)
I really enjoyed Citizen Kane  But then again I am a really pretentious film watcher-everyone hates me for it

I've never seen any of the classic musicals Mary Poppins, Sound of Music...

Fook me man, according tae ma mum, I used tae watch Mary Poppins 7 times per day when I was about two! However, I'm no big fan of The Sound of Music, I'd rather watch Moulin Rouge if I want tae hear the main song ;)

Never! It's one of my all-time faves! :D The love songs are slightly dire but it's an artistic masterpiece with nice songs slid in here and there and it never fails to make me laugh :ok: It's a shame that A Beautiful mind was released in the same year cos otherwise, I would have given Moulin Rouge best picture...Or are other folks gonna say "But what about LOTR..."

Its just so average. They tried to be both arty and plot-driven and it failed on both accounts. The songs are average and the film is just very very shallow IMO.

Dinky Jo - April 10, 2008 01:26 PM (GMT)
oh, i've never seen any Hitchcock movie for the simple reason that i think i'd be scared

Tenez - April 10, 2008 01:41 PM (GMT)
Moulin Rouge is a very well made movie and was surprised how Hollywood managed to grasp so well the atmosphere of those kind of cabarets. As a movie, it's not my cup of tea but it is a nice peace of art I think.

Lex - April 10, 2008 01:44 PM (GMT)
ooh ooh, what's the famous black and white film? You know, the one on a railway station, it was shot up in the Lake District I think, lots of steam and a romantic goodbye?

Can't remember the name..

I haven't seen that one either...

:D

Lawrence of Arabia
Gone with the Wind

Not seen them either, although I taped LOA and then deleted it.

Haven't seen

Ben Hur
Chariots of Fire
The English Patient
The Pianist

In fact I hardly watch films so I reckon there will be more I have not seen than have seen.

Sorry but I thought it was the biggest most vaccous pretentious piece of shit I've ever seen - and there were no original songs, and they were awfulyl sung. Hated it.

That would be Brief Enounter..

Very melodramatic, very british too.. :)

Oh, and 39 steps is on at many cinemas this week (am seeing it tomorrow).. the original, not the Robert Powell remake..

Lex - April 12, 2008 10:06 AM (GMT)
:ok: Thanks PP

I love 'The 39 Steps' - Robert Donat is excellent. His 'Goodby Mr Chips' is one of those films I can watch over and over and never get tired of

The Great Dictator is another one I've never seen
Metropolis too, or should that be either

Yup, Donat is excellent in Goodbye Mr. Chips :ok: However, one thing that has always disturbed me in that film is the way those bairns laugh at Mr. Chips' jokes...It seems so overacted to me but how would I know, the jokes maybe were hysterically funny at the time
