Saw where Sharapova's shoulder is bothering her & she's not going to play this tournament. That ought to make some folks happy. :D

First thing that struck me was Ivanovic vs Davenport potential 3rd round encounter. :yikes:
Yet again a potential Serena vs Justine QF, and Venus and Kuznetsova are also in the top half. With no Sharapova, that makes the bottom half considerably weaker, although it does boast some good players - Jankovic, Dementieva, Zvonareva and Schiavone have all been in good form recently, as well as obviously Ivanovic and Davenport.
chokapova - March 25, 2008 01:17 AM (GMT)
Personally I think Miami can cope without Maria as it looks like a great draw but it's a shame Justine, Serena and Venus are all in the same half... :(
dl04 - March 25, 2008 11:05 AM (GMT)
I'm getting bored of seeing venus, Justine and Serena in the same half, and i'm especially bored of the potential Serena vs Justine QF
Still i think the best match in the top half would be Venus vs Sveta :D H2H is tied 3-3 and Kuzy won their last meeting on hardcourt so that'll be intresting. I'm glad venus has a fairly dorment draw up until the quarters.
I dont think the bottom half is week, but i think the resukts are more predictable. Ana vs Lindsay looks a superb match in theory, but i worry about Davenport's state of fitness after Miami  Saying that though Ana has yet to back up a Tier 1 win in her career the next week so it'll be intruiging if that match materialised.

yeah totally agree with you here... :ok:
I used to like Anna but she is just so inept at the moment and Marion's run to the Wimbledon final IMHO was a complete fluke and she benefited from the rain delays during her matches...
jack.hl.ng - March 25, 2008 03:48 PM (GMT)
Li isn't playing Miami anymore. I've just heard of her recurring injury which has already pulled her out of Sydney, Dubai, Indian Wells and now Miami. :( She has a SF and QF run to defend at IW and Miami respectively. Now will be out the top 30.
| QUOTE |
The biggest hope for hold obviously lies in the doubles team of Zi Yan and Jie Zheng. "Yan/Zheng are a top-level doubles team, but it remains to be seen just how well they will perform in the Olympics. Right now there is a lot of pressure on them, hope everyone gives them a relaxed environment." In singles the biggest hope is of course Na Li, but she is injured. Sun says: "Na is still in the States. But we will soon arrange for her to have surgery in Germany. For a while after that, she will be out of the competition. This will of course affect her ranking." Na is currently ranked in the twenties and will the points to defend in the upcoming months, it doesn't look too good.

Doesn't sound too good :( Poor Li after such a good start to the season after a 6month layoff :(
vivahate - March 25, 2008 04:23 PM (GMT)
Dani's got Ivanovic in her quarter (possibly Linds??) but must contend with the likes of 'where have you gones' Vaidisova and Safina and 'don't count her out' Zvonareva.
Duchess - March 25, 2008 04:31 PM (GMT)
The way Sveta's going right now Venus would kill her!!! If Lindsay's back isn't bothering her she could probably take Ana I to 3 sets. I was wondering where Chakavedze had gone. :D I hope Li Na gets well before the olympics.

I've always felt Kuzy plays great against Venus. I mean their last match at Wimbledon was Venus's toughest test in the latter stages. However i will always welcome Kuzy imploding against Venus
The one player guaranteed of tanking/choking against Venus is Patty the mentallist  roflmao

Miss Suzi - March 28, 2008 08:34 AM (GMT)
It looks like a fairly routine day all round. Familiar names once again… :) Justine being given the WTA tour award yesterday for her performance from last year….. should hopefully give her a confidence boost as well.
 Potentially tricky matches might be . Bartoli vs. Wozniacki and Schnyder vs. King .
Bartoli hasn’t been playing all that great this year, but for an early round matchup she may put up a fight against Wozniacki..(a pretty determined player herself..) . Whoever comes through is fine by me…cause Venus :) should be able to take care of either of them.
I think Patty Schnyder should come through against Vania King..but with Patty you’ll never know  .
Should be easy for the Williams… and Peer should be able to edge Dechy although, Dechy served a double bagel to an unfortunate soul(Aiko) in her previous game.
A. Radwanska is out of the doubles..I hope she can now give the singles a decent run. Shame Aravane Rezai lost... she isn't playing all that well this year either....
It seems no one is blogging from Miami… :(

dl04 - March 28, 2008 09:14 PM (GMT)
Serena had some great stats on serve today, 4 aces and 92% winning percentage on first serves. That's pretty impressive for a first round :ok:
Hit 24 winners as well and that'll be key for the tournmament. For the past six months Serena has tried to incorporate this game full of topspin and margin for error. It works against the rank and file of the tour, but not against players like Henin because it's not a natural process in her game. At her best, she's the ultimate shot-maker and she needs that to win big again.
winners, winners and more winners please Serena ;)

I know, Nicole has lost it.... :yikes:
Good wins for Lindsay, Chokevetadze, Safarova and the usual suspects... :ok:
Also nice win for Lindsay and Dani in the doubles defeating Yan and Zheng...
