Dinky Jo - March 17, 2008 03:07 PM (GMT)
Cheers MJT

I'm assuming this interview was from before Roddick's loss, but this little exchange is highly amusing.

Q. Andy, what is going on, if you don't mind, in the love department? You know, you've got all these pretty little kitty girls in the tennis skirts and they're going to come and oogle and ogle you and give you the little winky.
ANDY RODDICK: Yeah! Woo!

Q. Is it any fun? It's like you got to respect the athlete.
ANDY RODDICK: God, you need to come around more often. This is fun! Jesus.

Q. The girls are here for something.
ANDY RODDICK: I finally have somebody more hyperactive than I am. Unbelievable. What did you eat for breakfast? (Laughter.)
Q. My mother cooked breakfast for me.
ANDY RODDICK: Did she wear one of those cutey little tennis skirts too when she was cooking those eggs this morning? I don't even know what you asked.

Q. I asked what's up in the love department? What's going on now with the career and the profession, you've got, as far as time zones are concerned --
ANDY RODDICK: Yeah.

Q. -- do you make time for love?
ANDY RODDICK: I'm all about the love. (Laughter.) I love everybody. I'm falling in love with you as we speak.

Q. You're wonderful. Thank you for being here.
ANDY RODDICK: You're awesome.

Q. Yeah, I know. On behalf of myself and all the young girls --
ANDY RODDICK: Thank you.

Q. -- we have a crush on you. We adore your performances here.
ANDY RODDICK: Thank you. I will never forget this moment.

I didn't see that one.

There is one from after his defeat as well, but it's not as funny ...

That's even weirder than the Jonathan Ross one... who on earth was doing the interview?

Dinky Jo - March 17, 2008 04:29 PM (GMT)
it's just a press conference so there's lots of journos i think.....

i did like the initial question:

Andy, what is going on, if you don't mind, in the love department? You know, you've got all these pretty little kitty girls in the tennis skirts and they're going to come and oogle and ogle you and give you the little winky.

Donald Young
Rafael Nadal
Jelena Jankovic
Ana Ivanovic
Novak Djokovic
Lindsay Davenport
James Blake
Marion Bartoli

Dinky Jo - March 18, 2008 09:11 PM (GMT)
Q. You're also very close to Roger for No. 1.
RAFAEL NADAL: Not very close.

Q. Well, you're very close but you have a lot more points to defend.
RAFAEL NADAL: So not very close.

Q. But do you feel any closer or do you feel further away?
RAFAEL NADAL: I do not feel close, no. When you're defending champion and he doesn't defend nothing, you know, it's not close.

Q. So you don't feel close at all?
RAFAEL NADAL: I feel I am No. 3 in the race.

Nadal is so coy about his ranking

You're closer than most have been to number 1 for 4 years Rafa ;)

It's true but the timing of the question does not really allow another answer.

Gav - March 18, 2008 10:20 PM (GMT)
Agreed. The timing is silly to start asking those questions. It's almost as if Roger is teasing Rafa with the number 1 ranking. He's close, but he can't quite reach it.

Miss Suzi - March 18, 2008 11:26 PM (GMT)
Surely... He will get there..

Surely... He will get there..

It would be extremely cruel if Nadal didn't make number 1 ... or even if he does, but only after someone else dethrones Federer first. He would have easily finished #1 last year in most years before Roger's time.

mightyjeditribble - March 19, 2008 12:06 AM (GMT)
Nadal is very right, though.

Unless Ljubicic unexpectedly beats Roger :yikes: for the first time since 2003, Nadal cannot make the #1 ranking before the clay season, even if he wins both IW and Miami. If he *doesn't* win both tournaments (which would be a very very tough ask), then I think he basically cannot get to the top before Hamburg at the earliest (unless perhaps Fed loses in the first round of all tournaments from now on ...)

Roger has a whole lot of points to defend from the French Open onward, basically. But in order to be in a position to really attack the #1 ranking, Rafa will need to again win everything in the clay season, and even then will probably not have a chance before Wimbledon. That kind of schedule would then, more likely than not, again make Nadal vulnerable in the latter part of the year.

He can have a chance this year, without doubt, but it's going to be tough. Meanwhile, if Djokovic does well again in IW and Miami (as it looks he might), he will be in a position to pick up some points in the clay season and get close to Nadal's #2 spot as well. So we could be poised for a very interesting time when Wimbledon comes along ...

I wonder if the big wind got his underwear unstuck or even wet :P lol roflmao

mightyjeditribble - March 19, 2008 09:42 PM (GMT)

mightyjeditribble - March 19, 2008 09:47 PM (GMT)
Tsonga really lost his concentration. He is playing quite tentatively, not as aggressively as before. He also seems to be having real trouble serving against the sun.

Q. Obviously Wimbledon is a long, long way away, but still it's always a big tournament for you. What would you consider a result that would be successful at Wimbledon this year?
ANDY MURRAY: I actually dreamt for the first time in my life about winning a Grand Slam, actually winning match point at a Grand Slam about two days ago. I kind of woke up, and now I feel like I'm ready to go on and play on and get deep into the Slams now. So, God, I want to win it.

I thought that was quite funny and it reminded me a part of an interview of Gascoigne when he was at his peak saying he kept having dreams he was missing very important penalties and the journalist very funnily replied...."that's the difference between you and us. We score them only in our dreams!"

DAVID NALBANDIAN: Yeah.

I am not a fan of Nalby but fair play to him! :giggle: why should he share?
