Title: IW Updates
mightyjeditribble - March 13, 2008 06:58 PM (GMT)
Looks like Kiefer is in trouble against Sela. :(
Although he just recovered a break from 5-2 down, but he still needs to hold, break again and hold again to get to an even footing in this set.
In other matches, Lee won the first set against Llodra and is up an early break in the second.
mightyjeditribble - March 13, 2008 07:05 PM (GMT)
It was too much to ask ... Kiefer loses the first set 6-4. :(
Still, a more respectable scoreline than 6-2, which could have been on the cards, and perhaps something to build on for a fightback.

Come on, Nicolas - hold here and then break to force a decider!
mightyjeditribble - March 13, 2008 07:56 PM (GMT)
Well, it looks like a good day for Germans on the women's side at least - one (Kerber) is already through, and another (Schruff) up a set and a break.
Not that I've ever heard of either of them ...
mightyjeditribble - March 13, 2008 08:03 PM (GMT)
Tiebreak! :yikes:
Come on Kiwi!
mightyjeditribble - March 13, 2008 08:16 PM (GMT)
Kiefer takes the tie-break! :yahoo:
Come on!
mightyjeditribble - March 13, 2008 09:09 PM (GMT)
Oh no. :( :( :(
After all that fighting back, Kiefer loses the final set 6-3.

sorry, thats an old F1 expression for when the lovely Murray Walker used to joyfully announce who was definitely going to be a certain winner, only for them to crash out two minutes later - he really did have the kiss of death... so, if you jinx someone, you murray them...
at least in this house you do...

that would make more sense on a tennis board
I am just reading up Murray Walker and his ability to curse drivers in Wiki - it says the following:
He was also an exponent of the commentator's curse, describing how well a driver was racing or that they would win the race, only to have them retire or crash out of the race shortly thereafter. This curse was at one stage so bad specific drivers approached him and asked him not to mention their names.
thats why I always think of people being murrayed!

Next up for Jonas is Canas. He might have a bit too much in the legs for the old Swede, particularly on a slow hardcourt. But you never know.
By the way, in German "Alter Schwede" ('old swede') is an exclamation of amazement.

c'mon tipsy!
mightyjeditribble - March 14, 2008 09:11 PM (GMT)
Tipsy facing match point!
And Safin set point!
Safin saves his, now game point ... and he holds for 5-5.
Tipsy saves his match point as well, now he needs to win two more points to hold and force a third-set tiebreak.
Go Marat! Go Tipsy! Go Nalbaņas! (Actually, I don't really care about Nalbaņas, I just like typing it.)
Ok, Tipsy now has game point. And Melzer holds for 6-5; Marat will need to hold serve again
mightyjeditribble - March 14, 2008 09:19 PM (GMT)
Tie-breaks in both matches! 4-3 to Safin on serve, Tipsy-Massu just to start.
