But not all of them, ie the Aussie Open final

their worst one was the Wimby final in 2003 :(

Btw, this is quite a good draw for a Tier 3. I'm slightly worried about Zvonareva in Venus's quarter and then Serena in the semis( tough draw :yikes: ).

Hopefully Venus can play well here, unlike last

It depends on how long the Yan v Schnyder match goes; that one begins at 1330 GMT. So I'd guess an hour to two hours after that.

The first all-Williams clash in more than two years seems a worthy way to ring in Bangalore's new Tier II status. I wasn't sure if it would take place since it's tough to predict their form going into events (and Venus had that strange hiccup in Memphis), but I would expect both to have had enough match practice going into it now for a good contest. It will also determine who will take the lead in their H2H, currently tied at 7-all. I'm happy for either to win; Serena has been in a final more recently (Moscow) so Venus is due, but Serena needs the ranking points more, languishing four places beneath her sister, and she also has big points to defend in Miami in a fortnight.

Disappointed but not altogether surprised at Jankovic's crashing out. Yan has been steadily improving in singles, sitting at a career high ranking No 54, and can spring a surprise as she did to Ivanovic in Toronto (she also pushed Venus hard in the second set of their AO match). I'd prefer Schnyder to win their semi so that two Top 12 players are guaranteed in the Tier II final, but Yan also more than deserves to be there if she manages the upset, as she will have seen off three seeds this week. Also, Schnyder has a combined 3-15 H2H against the sisters (all of those wins only coming against Serena on clay, one retirement aside), so having the Swiss veteran in the final won't make for much suspense whereas Yan may have one shock upset left in her and at least gives us something new to look at.

Honestly, a Jankovic v either Williams grudge match would have been best. She's defeated both sisters as defending champions in Slams, and has a tied H2H with each (well, technically she leads Serena but only due to a retirement). That would have made a good storyline for a blockbuster final and a great teaser for IW and Miami. Sigh.

jack.hl.ng - March 8, 2008 03:18 PM (GMT)
Schnyder through 63 64, good showing from Yan though :)

Venus and Serena match just started. Venus holding serve in the opening game with an ace, but was taken to deuce! I think Venus will take this one!

jack.hl.ng - March 8, 2008 03:33 PM (GMT)
Tight match already!
currently 2-2, serena having 3 break points, and venus having 5 break points already, no breaks of serve so far. Alot of deuces i am seeing!
