 And Almagro takes it....
Almagro stuns Nalbandian in final Almagro is being tipped for a strong showing at the French Open
Spain's Nicolas Almagro upset favourite David Nalbandian to take the Mexican Open men's singles title on Saturday.
World number 28 Almagro saw off the top-seeded Argentine 6-1 7-6, firing down 12 aces in the process.
"When you can't defeat someone's tennis, you have to win on attitude," he said afterwards.
"I went out swinging from the first point, based my attack on my serve, on my aggressive game, and that's been one of the keys that made the difference."
Almagro's win in Acapulco gave him the third ATP Tour title of his career.
He added: "I played an incredible first set and in the second I had my chances to break him but he was able to hang in there.
"I hit a good down the line backhand to go up 5-1 in the tie-break that gave me the extra confidence I needed to close out the match."
Argentinian Nalbandian, who came into the final on the back of 10 straight victories, had no complaints about the loss.
"Nico played a great match, he deserved the victory," he said. "I started the match a bit slow and let him take control of the match.
"In the second I was able to play a bit better but he got out of trouble with his serve most of the time."
Italian top seed and 2005 winner Flavia Pennetta defeated France's Alize Cornet 6-0 4-6 6-1 to take the women's singles title in Acapulco.
