Repeat Pete: Pete Sampras looked sharp in beating Tommy Haas 6-4, 6-2 in front of an SAP Open record Monday night crowd of 8,812. “I felt pretty good out there,” said Sampras. “I know Tommy’s got more important things to worry about it, but for me it was nice to play here. I always liked coming to play in San Jose.” As far as any comeback goes, forget it. Said Sampras, “It takes a lot of effort to come out of retirement. I can only do it one way – balls out. And some days the last thing I want do is play tennis.” Fortunately for SAP Open fans, this wasn’t one of them. As Haas joked in the middle of the match, “Show some mercy, Pete.”
Wish I had been able to see this! My perfect match up.
