Ouch.
That ends his winning streak of 2008 outside of grand slams.
But it does continue his streak of either *CRASHING OUT* :P of a tournament in the first round, or winning it.

Hewitt is up a break in the first set, 4-3. But Seppi is now up 0-30, so the Italian might be preparing to break back ...

dunno, all i can think now is of Haase battering him with a tennis racquet or something during their match......
mightyjeditribble - February 20, 2008 02:30 PM (GMT)
Lleyton holds on to his service game in typically gritty manner (I imagine - I'm only following the scores, and only intermittently during work) to lead 5-3.
Pebs will be thrilled.

I want Lleyton to win ... it'll at least give us a good match against Nadal in the next round (I imagine). It'll give Nadal a chance to have a test early in the tournament - and Lleyton gets to find out whether he can still hack it against the top guys. :)
With both of them not in the habit of giving up before the last point is played, I'd expect quite an exciting match - only I won't be able to watch it. :(
mightyjeditribble - February 20, 2008 02:42 PM (GMT)
Hewitt just got broken ... he just doesn't like to make it easy for himself, does he?
Dinky Jo - February 20, 2008 02:45 PM (GMT)
Mahut vs. Gabashvilli has just started on the other court. Both took fairly big name scalps in the first round - Mahut beat Robredo and Gabashavilli (i might just call him Gaba from now on) beat JCF

Certainly due to exhaustion or injury. I can't see HaasE beating a Murray on form. Looks like he is going to lose his points from his Memphis semi which shoudl take him back out of the top 10 (12th at best) with tons of points to defend in Miami and IW.
Tough prospect ahead.
PS - I did not realise that Memphis was a week later so he might play it and recover or even better there. so this drop in ranking shoudl last one week....untils the US TMS at least.

I didn't think he was playing Memphis this year
EDIT: he mentioned in the BBC report that he was playing Dubai - so i doubt he's playing Memphis as well. It looks like he's changed his whole schedule this year - possibly to avoid spending so long in America????
Tenez - February 20, 2008 03:06 PM (GMT)
Oh - Good. Thanks for the info. So what I said first holds up. Its down to how well he can do in a very competitive Dubai! The real season is about to start!
greasepipe - February 20, 2008 03:10 PM (GMT)
Rotterdam is running out of fuel with so many tennis players leaving the city with a full tank..
Who’s next to visit the nearest gas station? Berdych? At least Nadal should be eager to collect some points..

yeah - i would think he'll struggle to salvage points in Dubai tbh :nope:
but scratch what i said about playing different tournaments to avoid being in the US for a long period of time - i suspect it's got a lot to do with money. Dubai pays out a phenomonal amount :dohh:
mightyjeditribble - February 20, 2008 03:29 PM (GMT)
Seppi takes the tie-break 7-4 :yikes:
As I said ... Lleyton doesn't like them easy ... :P
