Couldn't resist posting this as it's the first really big tournament that Ana's ever been seeded number 1 for. B)2
Sadly, she won't be lasting very long, with an absolute stinker of a draw - one which is again pretty top heavy. Ivanovic and Williams in the same quarter, with Sharapova awaiting them in the SF should they get that far. Chakvetadze, Jankovic, Kuznetsova and Hantuchova will all fancy their chances of reaching the final, but you'd assume that they will start as second favourites.
Hard to look past Sharapova for the victory here given her form, although Venus looks to have a good shout of reaching the semi and would definitely be able to trouble her.

depends which Venus turns up this week, if it's aggressive and accurate Venus who turns up then even Sharapova will struggle but if it's spraying balls 6 feet outside the tramlines Venus who shows up she'll be doing well to make it past the second round...

Should be an interesting tournament, i really want to see how Jankovic is playing.
Zheng Jie and Urszula Radwanska made it through qualifying too :)
I've seen the younger Randwanska sister play, and i think this girl is something special :)

Hantuchova withdrew due to respiratory illness :(
Schiavone, gets is bumped up, and gets her bye in the first round.
chokapova - February 18, 2008 09:54 PM (GMT)
Petrova's appalling start continues to 2008 as she has to retire v Medina Garrigues :(
vivahate - February 19, 2008 04:00 AM (GMT)
too bad Dani and indeed a bad start for Petrova
T01 - February 19, 2008 09:58 AM (GMT)
Well I like Dani, but to be fair the AusOpen semi is not spectacular as she didn't defeat any top players or tricky opponents. The draw just opened up for her.
liam_valid - February 19, 2008 03:59 PM (GMT)
Well, Bartoli out 6-2 6-3 to Woniaki. Szavay served up a bagel by Sugiyama :yikes: Ai wins 7-6 6-0. Li Na also served a bagel by veteran Likhovtseva, but Li wins a topsy turvy match 6-1 0-6 6-4

That's my predictions screwed then
jack.hl.ng - February 19, 2008 04:39 PM (GMT)
Li through :( 61 06 64, she beat Likhovtseva 61 61 last week at Antwerp. Chakvetadze next, hope Li can bring up a better game against her. She played a 3setter against her at Miami last year, when both players were in good form.
Wozniacki doing well to get to the third round after her r16 showing at AO.
EDIT:
Mirza now out retiring at 64 67(5) 23, being down a break. :(
Peng and younger Radwanska sister out too :(

Wow - impressive result for Sugiyama. I didn't really expect Sugiyama to get a set against Szavay but she got knocked out early in Antwerp after reaching the final in Paris.
Paszek was also bagelled by Schnyder (64 60) but Paszek looked to have some sort of illness and needed to call for some treatment. She basically went through the motions in the final half of the final set but Patty did play some cracking shots (as well as some abysmal ones but not as bad as Antwerp!)

Few shocks today. Veteran Tamarine Tanasugarn showing some of the form from the days of yesteryear to defeat Momo. I guess Cibulkova beating Schnyder isn't so much of a shock nowadays but she looked pretty good against Paszek yesterday and Chak going out to Li - Chak has been playing a lot recently so maybe she's a bit fatigued.
