Hope i'm not being sexist, but i've never been out with a girl that wouldn't have had my danglers for breakfast if i'ld forgotten to get a card-i remember once having to nip out to a petrol station a few years back because i had forgotten!

well any guy i;'ve been with has been told in no uncertain terms that they should not bother to waste their time and money on buying a crappy valentines card or a present or anything. I've never been out to dinner on valentines or done anything special :shrug: It's just another day - i would find it more romantic if a guy just bought me something randomly 'cos they thought i'd like it, or if they took me out for dinner for the sake of it - rather than some commercially hyped up "day of love"

Yep, i hear what you're saying, spontaneous gifts mean a lot more than those that are expected, and realistically of course the day is just hype!

To be honest i just don't give a damn about the day-one way or the other.

Well I was gonna ask you for a date BT but as know know the score, as in no flowers, chocolates, cards, romance, gifts then it's all off! :lol:

I agree it has been made commercial but it's hardly the onyl event - they do it for Easter, Halloween, Mothers and Fathers Day and of course none of these things are anywhere near as BAD as Christmas! :yikes: We get that for weeks, there is no escape. So I don't object to Valentines at all -you can easily escape, and avoid commercialism if you wish but at Xmas you pay more for everything, have to queue etc and Valentine's doesn't force you into holidays you don't want. If people are mug enough to buy silly gifts fine, they are daft! I don't and neither does my partner. In fact he bought me nothing and bought him nothing (we are very tight fisted people, it's in the genes ;) :lol:) I just used it as an excuee to get a meal :ok: The last card I sent him I made myself :D

Anyway I enjoyed mine because I did not buy into commercialism, I went for a meal at a restuarant I usually use regularly (Indian) and the prices and menu are the same so you won't pay 40 quid for a 15 quid dinner as some restaurants charge, where they put in a set menu and inflate the price. Also they are heaving and you wait ages to get served as we discovered once when we booked up and waited an hour between courses. Last night we ate what we wanted at normal prices, and the Valentine's aspect made it different and better because a. they were busier than normal but pleasantly so and there was a good buzz b. we got some complimentary starters on the house and c. it wasn't all couples in there, there were families and also a guy we know who came on his own and we had a drink and chat with him so it was social d. the manageress likes lights and put all her fairy lights and disco lights on :lol: And we didn't have to book 3 months in advance, oh and our food came very quickly despite one lady serving up to 50 covers on her own :bow: Then again this woman is a legend!

So all in all I enjoyed the Valentine's thing becuase it made it more fun for me for nto extra cost or commercial thing B) :D And last year we did the same but had a meal the day after Valentines as well at a fancier place for half the price it was charging Valentine's day - it was called "Second Chance Valentines" :lol: Anyway I loved it cos they had a Sinatra impersonator who was good doing swing versions of Nirvava:lol:

So I voted YES cos for me I can find a few extra things about it to enjoy compared to normal without having to go commercial. :ok:

The last time I got a Valntine's gift it wasn't form George! :yikes: And it was as Pebs knows a KC and the Sunshine Band CD :lol: And it wasn't a joke either! :yikes: This guy was persuing me and wouldn't leave me alone even though he was getting married and I was not avaialble as it were. It upset me actually because he was a good freind, we got on really well but he clearly couldn't be friends so he is avoided at all costs now.

Yeah, the restaurant's most regular and longest standing customer was there - he's an Anglo Asian guy who's been going for 20 years most days and even has an account :lol: As eh was ready to leave when we were we dropped him off near his house as it is on the way back. His name is also George :lol: He's a sweetie, he's 64 and you'd never guess, very polite and good old fashioned well mannered gent :ok:

I'm not as bothered about V day I used to be. I used to think you have to go out for a meal etc etc now I would rather go when it suits us. However I didn't say no to the flowers delivered to my house, the chocolates and the very nice card. :D My boyf has learnt well! :wub:
