Well, Youhzny managed to lose the first set to Zimonjic, but has taken the second and third.....
close match between Sela and Bjorkman, with Sela taking the first set 7-6 and is now a break up in the second.
Hanescu and Gasquet in a first set tie-break at the moment
Dinky Jo - February 8, 2008 12:15 PM (GMT)
Gasquet took the first set in the tiebreak
Dinky Jo - February 8, 2008 01:03 PM (GMT)
Baker about to start against Nalby - anyone wanna take any guesses as to how many games Baker wins in the match??
I reckon 3.....
trisco - February 8, 2008 01:36 PM (GMT)
First set Nalby... 6-1

Was gonna say that looks a little mean, but based on the scoreline so far that looks realistic. Baker's barely into double figures on points.
I say Nalby will have a third set blip and Baker will lose the nerves, allowing him a grand total of 6 games. :yahoo:
Wise_Analyst - February 8, 2008 01:49 PM (GMT)
Elsewhere, Youzhny beat Zimonjic and Davydenko is thrashing Troicki. The Russia vs Serbia tie is pretty much a non-event after the withdrawal of Djoko and Tipsy.
Gasquet is making hard work of beating Hanescu, but is still on course to get a straight sets win.
Melzer and Roddick are one set all, but Melzer is a break up in the third.
Kohlschreiber thrashing An.
Wise_Analyst - February 8, 2008 03:00 PM (GMT)
Nalbandian just won, but Baker put in a decent performance. 6-1, 6-3, 6-3.
Donkey managed to get breadsticked by Troicki  but is now 2 sets to 1 up.
Berdych is giving Vliegen a pretty impressive mauling.
Thomas Johansson looks set to level up the Sweden vs Israel tie, two sets and a break up over Levy.
Roddick's doing a good job against Melzer, 2 sets to 1 up and a break up in the fourth.
Kohlschreiber beat An in straight sets, and Mayer has just started against Lee, in what is probably Korea's best chance of winning a point in this tie.
SuperBRAT - February 8, 2008 03:07 PM (GMT)
Ah wel, it's all up to Boggo now roflmao
SuperBRAT - February 8, 2008 03:10 PM (GMT)
On a serious note, I know jack sh8t about Augustin Calleri. So does Boggo have a chance? I know Boggo is not best on clay, but he is very talented if he goes for it.

Is it Boggo vs Calleri now? Obviously Boggo is a mug on clay, but Calleri can be pretty inconsistent himself, so I'd expect Bog to get a closer scoreline than Baker. Possibly even win a set, although probably not.
Melzer broke back against Roddick in the fourth set - this match looks exciting.
And Pavel has a healthy lead in the first set tiebreak against Tsonga.

Cheers, yes they are coming out on court now. I can't watch the other matches, I've onyl got BBCi, or else I'd tune into something else.
Pavel is up against Tsonga? Wow, he's no spring chicken Pavel is he!
Wise_Analyst - February 8, 2008 03:26 PM (GMT)
Tsonga was always going to have a slight letdown after the effort he put in at the AO, although he should still win in 4. In fact he's already a break up in the second set.
Troicki is 4-1 up in the fourth set now. Oh dear Davydenko.
Another exciting match is Roddick vs Melzer, with the Austrian 6-5 up in the fourth now.
Berdych now a break up in the third on Vliegen and surely home and dry.
SB - I gotta go out now, but apparently Calleri has never lost a DC tie on clay! He's no world beater on clay - in fact his most spectacular performances come on hard courts, as he has more of an attacking game than some Argies - but he really should be far too solid for Bog, who's woeful on this surface.

Cheers for that. Yeah they seem to be saying he is very solid and has a really good backhand. And he looks extremely comfortable out there compared to Alex.
Have fun, see ya later :D

Good to hear them actually mention that Murray could have handled this better though in between their glowing praise..
GSM Calleri - Boggo outclassed again.
Sure this guy has talent but he does a job good job of not showing it on big stages though..
Ah well, what impact will this loss have in terms of our standing in the groups? We will then be in the play offs to stay in the group?
Harry Potter - February 8, 2008 05:33 PM (GMT)
Yes, so no more Davis cup action for GB until September, unless we pull off a miracle.
Flame - February 8, 2008 05:35 PM (GMT)
J-W, the flag-bearer of beautiful tennis imo, had won his debut Davis Cup match. tres bon.
Wise_Analyst - February 8, 2008 05:43 PM (GMT)
Before the Boggo match, those idiot commentators were bigging up his "phenomenal talent" is if he were a Mecir or a Rios, not some slightly underachieving journeyman. It's no surprise that they were left mumbling about how brilliant Calleri was, and therefore how amazing Murray was to be ahead of him in the rakings by a fair way, by the end...
Melzer choked badly against Roddick in the final set - went a break up before succumbing to a 6-3 defeat. He did the same thing in the third set, so that was a real opportunity missed for the Austrians. However, the ever generous James Blake is trying to make up for it by choking while serving for the first set against Koubek, and will now have to serve to stay in it at 5-6. And guess what - he failed. First set Koubek 7-5.
Lee is 2-1 up on Mayer and they're at the business end of the fourth set. This is Korea's only real chance of winning a live rubber, so hopefully he can finish it off.
Stepanek is a set up on Darcis, and Davydenko eventually saw off Troicki despite receiving two breadsticks. A good performance from the two relatively unknown Serbs today.
Wise_Analyst - February 8, 2008 06:46 PM (GMT)
Deary deary me... Austro-American relations really will be great when this tie has finished. Koubek hands Blake the second set 7-5 from 5-2 up, in a mirror image of the first. Bad news for USA though - Blake has got the early break in the third set, so it's a guaranteed 2 sets to 1 lead for Koubek.
Mayer won the fourth set tiebreak against Lee, but the Korean held his nerve in the decider to level the tie at 1-1.
Darcis is performing creditably against Stepanek, although a defeat looks inevitable. He's two sets down.
Dinky Jo - February 9, 2008 09:34 AM (GMT)
this is the situation going in to the second day:
Russia v Serbia 2 - 0
Czech Republic v Belgium 2 - 0
Argentina v Great Britain 2 - 0
Israel v Sweden 1 - 1
Germany v Korea, Rep. 1 - 1
Peru v Spain 0 - 2
Romania v France 0 - 2
Austria v USA 0 - 2
trisco - February 9, 2008 02:42 PM (GMT)
4-2 to Argentina at the mo in the first set...
SuperBRAT - February 9, 2008 02:45 PM (GMT)
Watching GB v Arg doubles. Bloody Hutchins is out of his league, hasn't held serve yet, and Jamie keeps missing. Surprised that Argies put Nalbandian in, not cos he is bad but expected they'd have plenty of others to use, and isn't there a doubles guy who won something with Acasuso? Peitro or summat
SuperBRAT - February 9, 2008 02:47 PM (GMT)
Well that's the 1st set pissed away 6-2  :(
Btw doubles sucks on that clay. Give me grass anyday. :ok:
SuperBRAT - February 9, 2008 03:42 PM (GMT)
Unbelievable. The camera man in Argy has been showing just one end of the court with Nalby and Acususo for a couple of games, no one can see the points!
I think the Brits brealign back have pissed them off! :D
trisco - February 9, 2008 04:08 PM (GMT)
Ooooo.. that volley into the net at 11-12 down in the tiebreak is going to hurt Hutchins after their great effort in that 2nd set...
Harry Potter - February 9, 2008 05:55 PM (GMT)
Bagel
2-6 6-7 0-6
Murray and Hutchins should be happy about that scoreline, although a non-bagel in the last set would have been the icing on the cake
Flame - February 9, 2008 07:01 PM (GMT)
gallant effort in the second set but let's face it, both players bottled opportunities to take the second set and then it was goodlnight vienna.
pretty depressing for it to end with a bagel as well.
SuperBRAT - February 9, 2008 09:32 PM (GMT)
It was dissappointing bu tHutchins was out fo his depth. The guy did his best, but how many times does he come up against the likes of Nalby? It must have been hard for him.
Flame - February 10, 2008 02:59 PM (GMT)
poor boggo. awful again. in command, should have won in straights against acasuso and ended up losing 5-7 5-7. awful. :(
Wise_Analyst - February 10, 2008 03:12 PM (GMT)
Well, Djokovic was 2 sets and a double break up on ol' No Weapons, but Davydenko fought back to take the third and forced Djokovic into retirement. A shame, as the tie looked likely to go to a fifth rubber against all the odds. Must say I'm impressed with Troicki though, who's a set up in an admittedly dead rubber vs Tursunov, and took Donkey to five sets in his opening tie.
Germany, Spain, France and the Czech Republic are all through - the latter three all gaining unassailable leads after the doubles. Kohlschreiber had a tough battle against Lee but came through in four sets to give Germany the victory.
The only current live rubber is Bjorkman vs Levy. After Johansson's win over Sela earlier, this one will decide the tie, and Bjorkman is two sets to one up. However, he is a break down in the fourth so this one really might go all the way. There are also some interesting dead rubbers - Bob Bryan bagelled Eschauer in the first set of their match. He lost the second, but has just won in the decisive tiebreak.
Another doubles specialist performing well is Vizner of the Czech Republic, who was a set and a break up on Bemelmans, but has just been pegged back to 3-3 in the second. And Clement is a break up in the deciding set of his match vs Tecau of Romania.
Wise_Analyst - February 10, 2008 04:34 PM (GMT)
 GBR win their first set of the tie - Baker takes the opening set tiebreak off Calleri. I was impressed by him against Nalbandian - Nalby played pretty good tennis and obviously won quite easily, but Baker was able to stay with him in lots of the rallies and even hit some screaming winners. He's also got some oomph to his game, unlike Bogdanovic, who might have talent, but will never possess the tools to fully utilise it. Reaching the top 100 seems like a possibility for this guy.
Sweden are also through, wily old dog Jonas Bjorkman seeing off Harel Levy in four sets in the deciding rubber.
Flame - February 10, 2008 04:56 PM (GMT)
set and a break now for jamie. come on kid, end the pain.
Flame - February 10, 2008 05:14 PM (GMT)
jamie serving for it now 7-6 *5-4. here we go.
Flame - February 10, 2008 05:25 PM (GMT)
baker saves break point to serve it out and give team GB a figleaf of respectability. in a shambolic tie, he's acquited himself quite well.
Harry Potter - February 10, 2008 06:38 PM (GMT)
This is the beginning of clay court dominance for Jamie Baker.
Flame - February 10, 2008 06:43 PM (GMT)
that's right, Harry, jamie baker is the new nadal. let the baker era begin!
