Title: BiG FAT COMP/GS COMP - FEEDBACK PLEASE!
Description: wanted your opinion on something please!

SuperBRAT - February 2, 2008 09:37 AM (GMT)
Hi guys - please read and give me som feedback because I am considerign soem changes and want to know what folks want. :) The usual GS Comps where we predict match scorelines daily is staying so don't worry about that.

As you know the idea of the BIG FAT Predictions Comp (BFP for short!) is a new one and involves some trial and error. Also it isn't easy to predict way ahead, but the idea was to be a bit different and give it a go. However it isn't easy and hasn't proved that popular (yet) with the exception of the first part. This easier because it was for the AO and you had the draw and knew who was playing - it was immediately prior to the GS and that seemed to generate plenty of interest and was relatively easy to do once you got the hang of it. The idea of just running a comp immediately prior to each GS was started off my the legend Mr Invisible

Anyway, I am considerign the following options:

1. stick with the BFP as it is

2. refine it to just cover GSs AND allow folks up until the date of each GS starting to pick their selections - they'll have the draw out to refer to.

3. or I could scrap it and go back to just having a mini comp before each GS, however I may as well keep score on all 4 for a bigger comp AND if folk don't want to do every slam we can still announce a winner for each one.

I'm happy to keep the existing BFP for those who have entered, and do another for the four GSs - it's nto much mor eeffort scoring wise if folks want that, but I obviously don't want to have too many comps either - unless folk want them that is. I know some folks felt 'predictioned out' . Sorry about that, it gets hectic at slam time I know but I was only trying to keep you all entertained. Once you've done things like Battle of Boards and BFP though you knwo they are done. Then you don't have to do the daily comp if you don't want to and I was trying to give mroe options.

Anyway the BFP deadline is supposed to be Monday so let me know what you want to do. Or just give me soem feednack to work with.

Thanks :)

Hi SB - am more than happy for the contest to stay as it is, but to me it does seem like a total lottery picking so far ahead, since there are so many unforeseen things that could affect the predictions.

Personally, I'd suggest picking the semi-finalists and winner of all the tournaments once the draw comes out, then adding up everyone's scores over the season. That way there'd be a bit more skill involved rather than just relatively random name-picking? Not that it'd help me after my disastrous draw-assisted picks at the AO!

Agree with Wise, Im happy for it to go ahead as- is but I personally I would have simplified it by just naming a winner (and maybe one reserve) as a long-term prediction and then do the more detailed predictions once the draw is out .

I quite liked the way the AO bit worked but am easy either way!

Haven't done the next part of BFP yet so will hold out until a decision is made

Cheers for all this work SB! :ok:

Thanks guys. :) I'll see if anyone else wants to feed back, but it does seem that everyone likes to pick when the draw is out (although as Wise says it was disterous for him, it was for me too cos me and Wise had the worst picks ofr the final four ) so I'm thinking we should definitely allow that to happen as it is popular, and then add it up over the year.

Does anyone therefore object to me doing this ans crapping the BFP as it stands then because although I will keep it if folk really want it, I don't want too many similar comps going on at the saem time as folks will get confused.

i liked it the way you have done it. We do one similar at work for football and it can be frustrating when a team you have been predicting to do well go through a bad patch that you didnt forseee months in advance (Liverpool have buggered me up recently  ) but tbh, its the unpredictability of it thats exciting

So, just predicting tournament by tournament? Do we post predictions here?

Appreciate I am sounding a bit gormless - sorry!

No worries :)

Basically I was considering leavign the comp as it is, predicted in advance OR doing one just for slams which is predicted when the draw comes out. And then addign up all four slams. Or I can do both.

It's tricky cos a lot fo folks like doing it knowing the draw and don't want to predict all the non slams, others like iti as it is.

Ah, I see. To be honest, my predictions are always pretty poor (except for the reliable top three)...so I am not sure it would make much difference seeing the draw or not!! :D
