Title: Novak sends Roger home
T01 - January 25, 2008 11:24 AM (GMT)
With a straight set win ove rthe Swiss!
greasepipe - January 25, 2008 11:31 AM (GMT)
Like i said yesterday; first set was crucial. Once he came behind, Roj just wasn't able to make it tough for Djoko. Although i have to say if Roj had won the third things would probably made a turn.
The match reminded me a lot of the Montreal final, with Djoko winning almost every >6 strokes rallies.

Fed was surely not good today...erratic forehands..and some shots he udes to make with his eyes closed were all going haywire. :( ..but full marks to Dijko for serving very well in the tight situations...
Hmm onto the finals ;)

The match actually reminded me the Guga Fed match at the FO 2004. Fed never got into it, yet you felt he could turn it around any time. ...but didn't!

I said from the very beginning on this forum that I thought there would be a surprise.
And even after Federer won on Staurday after 4hrs and 30 minutes, I said that the surprise almost took place then but I thought there was another surprise lurking.
Big congratulations to Djokovic for holding his nerve when Federer was pressing for the 3rd set.
But right from the beginning I always felt that Federer would not win this tournament.

NOVAK DJOKOVIC: You still don't know how to pronounce my surname. Djokovic. It's very difficult for you, right (smiling)? |
John Lloyd - we know it's you. And no, John -we don't want to hear about 'could it have been Andy Murray out here?' when we watch the final on Sunday...
I may text in and ask that question, just for the hilarity of listening to the ensuing debate ;)

I think the fact that she was wearing jeans and a jacket might point to the reason *why* she fell off a treadmill

No yolk on Noles face this time round, though. Watch the final on the Beeb, and there will be mispronunciations left, right and centre!

you gotta wonder what went through Djoko's head then "I've just beaten the world number 1, am through to the final of the grand slam, have reached 4 consecutive slam semis, and i'm number 3 in the world - and you STILL can't pronounce my name???"

I was listening to the commentary for a bit this morning and John Lloyd said there was no love lost between Fed and Djoko, because Djoko kept saying he could beat Fed...... and that he wondered whether Fed might come out and teach Djoko a lesson for saying that kind of thing......
I'm almost glad i didn't watch it so I didn't have to listen to Lloyd saying:
"oh, an UE from Fed - you don't get many of those."
"Oh, another UE from Fed.......i wonder how often that happens?"
"And another one - very very rare" :blah:
SaraLess - January 25, 2008 02:42 PM (GMT)
Djokovics attitude is an odd one for me - half the time, he gets it just right with self-belief, passion and humour - other times, he just crosses a line with the respect thing.
The off-court attitude that is spot on is Nadals, imo.
I didn't listen to Lloyd - I started to the other day, and he managed to subvert the attention from Tsonga back onto Murray and that's when I realised I couldn't bear another minute.
He was also being ludicrous about Nadal - seriously, the man is a pure panic merchant!!

well he spent some time rambling about the Davis Cup earlier......
I always got the feeling that Fed's dislike of Djoko didn't come from anything he's said in interviews, but more his on-court stuff - like the bouncing the ball approximately 684,752 times before every serve, and taking random injury breaks
SaraLess - January 25, 2008 02:50 PM (GMT)
Yes - Fed clearly abhors that kind of behaviour...yet he doesn't seem to extend that attitude to Nadal? And Nadal is the worst offender for fiddling around between points (though Djoko isn't far behind .. )
Apparently Djokovics impersonations were not overly well received in some quarters - but I doubt that would be it. There has also been some muttering about 'Team Djoko' in the sidelines - though this is all unsubstantiated, also...
Maybe they just argued over who'd wear black, and had to compromise?!

Hey Gav, are you talking about me? I'm an old granny all right, but it's not often anyone calls me a DEAR old granny. Can't think why
I am of course gutted. I'd so wanted Fed to win. Didn't watch the match, partly because my cleaning lady (yes, I have one of those) was cluttering up the sitting room where the TV is, partly because I didn't dare. I had this nasty premonition :(
However, I shall now be able to watch the final with complete equanimity and total enjoyment because I couldn't care less which of them wins :D
fah51 - January 25, 2008 05:02 PM (GMT)
I also had a suspicion Roger would lose today so surprisingly am not as gutted as I could be - still sad tho' :( I think not playing Kooyong and having the stomach virus did take its toll but that's life! Like scolios I can now watch the final sitting comfortably instead of my usual place behind a cushion ;) And it is refreshing to look forward to a new Grand Slam champ :ok:

Yeah Im a Djoko fan but his attitude at times puts me off him . I hope he doesnt get totally arrogant in victory .
And I hope we dont have to listen to Lloyd in the final - 'That was another mishit backhand-it hasnt being firing well today ' but I suspect we will .
