it's totally between 'no country' and 'twbb' - both fantastic films by the way :ok: :ok:
overall, i like the list. some fine films are shortlisted there.
and i have to give props to Canuck Sarah Polley, for snagging an Adapted Screenplay nod, well done
Dinky Jo - January 22, 2008 03:01 PM (GMT)
I really want to see The Diving Bell and the Butterly - surprised that it's director has got a nod but the film hasn't either in the best film or best foreign film category  I loved the book though :ok:
vivahate - January 22, 2008 03:04 PM (GMT)
i've seen all the best pic noms except 'atonement'. although i refuse to see any george clooney movies, so 'michael clayton' doesn't count :P

i can't stand him. so i usually avoid his stuff. 'out of sight' was good though...

I have a similar issue with Tom "the only person who can help in a car-crash" Cruise  I just refuse to watch his films now......
I like George though
i actually really like the Coen brother's stuff too, so i hope they win :ok:

Schnabel won at the globes, so I'm not that surprised. I wanted to see the film myself but my family didn't want to because the film was about someone who had LIS. I haven't read TDBATB but I have read a book that is inspired from it, and it's absolutely brilliant :ok:

Daniel Day Lewis absolutely deserves the Oscar for best Actor-I saw the film last night and he amazing. I'd like to see Ellen Page get the nod for Best Actress but Cotillard and Christie are probably more worthy choices :ok:
Best Director is almost certainly going to the Coens and No Country for old men is a fantastic film from what I've heard.
I've see three of the nominations for Best Picture: Juno, There will be Blood and Atonement. All three are fantastic and I would love Atonement to win but I feel There WIll be Blood deserves it more.
dl04 - February 17, 2008 10:32 AM (GMT)
I hope Marion Cotillard wins best actress for Le Vie en Rose. Have seen some clips of it, and she looked totally sublime as Edith Piaf :ok:
Daniel Day Lewis will almost certainly win for There will be Blood. Noone else in that category is the same league, and i cant believe George Clooney got a nomination
Javier Bardem will surely win best supporting actor. One of the best on-screen pyscho's i've seen for some time
I think best supporting actress is between Cate Blanchett and Tild Swinton. The only one i could see winning apart from those two is the young Saoirse Ronan from Atonement.
And Best film? I'd go for No country for oLd men :)

Can't stand the Oscars, but I will support the Brits (not that there are many) and hope that Julie Christie wins because I heard she did a stunnign perfromance and I like her as an actress, and it's one fo rthe oldies :D
Haven't sene any of the films, but on the Men's I like Daniel Day Lewis, he's one of my favourite actors althouh I much prefered it when he stared in unique Brtish films liek MY Beautiful Launderette and My Left Foot.
Can't stick George Clooney either :sicky:

It’s about time the work of the 2 best filmmakers of the modern times are getting appreciation on this scale. They fully deserve it.
“No country for old men” is another masterpiece by the Coens, not conventional stuff (the course of the movie), but that’s the way Coen fans -like myself- prefer it to be.

:ok: yep, i do like the Coens' work, although i haven't got round to seeing this yet  the phrase "kinda funny lookin'" from Fargo has entered my lexicon forever mind you :P
Interesting that all the acting awards went to non-US citizens B)

I'm not a movie goer and I haven't seen any of the nominees/winners. Seems like you all are happy with the results.
SuperBRAT - February 25, 2008 05:58 PM (GMT)
I haven't seen any of these films and I probably never will, but glad Daniel Day Lewis got one. I love him :D

Bit disappointed Julie Christie didn't win. Wasn't she the hot fave for Best Actress? I have read several times how incredible her performance was.
Don't know much about the other movies, but glad that Daniel won, as he is a fine actor... and I don't think we get to see him often enough.
SB. A friend of mine years ago, mistakenly called My Left Foot ....................My Left Leg :o  Somehow it doesn't quite sound the same does it. :P especially if you have seen the film, which I have. :D

I know
I love that film, Daniel is a very good actor and I certainly would like to see more of him. In numerous ways  Anyone who can appear sexy to a heterosexual socialiat woman ywhilst playing a gay Nation Front member gets my vote
I liked Julie Christie as well, she is very good. I also heard she was briallint in that movie. :(

finally saw No Country for Old Men this weekend - what a brilliant film. :ok: Looks fantastic, some absolutely beautiful shots in there - I love the fact that they give the audience the time to soak in the scenery :) The story is great too - and is actually quite amusing in some places, which I was a wee bit surprised by. I'm still a bit undecided about the ending though - the more i think about it, the more i love it, but at the time i was quite disppointed. I'm quite surprised by some of the criticism that the film is too slow - i thought it was really well paced and quite tense in some places. My attention only started to wane in the last 10 minutes  All in all a great film and i'm glad it won the awards it did :ok:
