Title: Day 8

Early wakeup call tomorrow... so it's sod's law that they put Ana on first. Only one winner out of Ana and a good night's sleep though.
She took the first set 6-1 against Wozniacki - I was nervous about this match but so far Wozniacki looks nervous and is being outclassed. She's not hit a single winner yet. One for the future, maybe, but unless something amazing (and incredibly irritating) happens, this one should be over in two.

 Knew I shouldn't have said that. Wozniacki up 4-2 in the second.

:phew:
Wozniacki had three break points for a double break at 4-2, but Ana saved them all. She then had two set points on her own serve at 5-4 but got a little tight and Ana raised her level to fight back and get the break. At 6-5, Ana had a match point on the Wozniacki serve but to her credit the Dane saved it and held, but went down 7-2 in the tiebreak.
So a nice workout for Ana before her straight sets defeat to Venus, and Wozniacki should have a bright future - I like her attitude too.

Good win for Ana there, always enjoying watching her... although my mate distracted me a little telling me how much he'd like to shag her....
She looked a little off mid way through the 2nd but I guess Wozzy had a bit to d with that.
Good win in the end though for Ana...
Petrova was on just then and :yikes: the size of the woman, she is getting some big ol thunder thighs at the mo, looks like she is trying to beef up for some reason.. she was never the slightest athlete..

Kirilenko seems to be finding some form that was possibly expected of her earlier in her career.
After taking out Chakvetadze she is now 5-1 up in the first set against Hantuchova.

Scrub that, 6-1 to Kirilenko.
Venus has taken the first set against Marta after seem really tesing stuff from the latter. Good hitting from both.
After seeing Ana earlier, if she doesn't step up a little against Venus should Venus come through, Ana will be on the plane back to Serbia.

Typical Petrova. Dishes out a breadstick in the first and goes up a break in the second before it all went south. Granted, I didn't think Radwanska would go down that easily but even so the Russian was two points from the match, leading 5-4 15-30 on the teenager's serve. Instead Petrova promptly lost three games in a row and will probably collapse in the decider.
Kirilenko is polishing off another headcase in Hantuchova with her own breadstick. Looks as though we'll get two Slam quarterfinal debutantes and ergo a completely untested semifinalist. Venus and Ivanovic must be smacking their lips, although given their scratchy performances today, who knows.
Sure enough, as I write this, Petrova is already down a break in the third. No surprise there. And now she's summoned the trainer. Sigh.

Not a good day for Russian mental fortitude. Petrova did indeed end up losing nine games in a row and Radwanska is through to her first Slam quarterfinal (well-deserved given she has upset the second seed in the third round for two Slams running) with a 1-6, 7-5, 6-0 win.
Meanwhile Kirilenko, who looked to be in complete control against Hantuchova, was up 6-1, 3-1, 30-love before somehow managing to lose Seventeen points in a row and with it the second set. Hantuchova swept to a 5-2 lead in the decider, not so surprisingly failed to serve it out despite holding double match point, let a third MP go begging on Kirilenko's service game, but makes good on her second attempt to serve it out, holding to love to reach her first Slam QF in five years (also at the AO) and only her fourth overall with a 1-6, 6-4, 6-4 win. Well done. The revival of form for the Slovak of last year seems to have carried over to this season.
So despite the somewhat weaker bottom half of the draw (although Venus and even Ivanovic are certainly contenders for the title), I think its QFs have shaped up quite well. And of course the top half has some mouthwatering contests on offer:
Henin v Sharapova
Jankovic v Serena
-
Venus v Ivanovic
Hantuchova v Radwanska
