Kiri is now thrashing Chokevetadze...

Wise_Analyst - January 19, 2008 03:23 AM (GMT)
Kirilenko sees off Chakvetadze routinely in the end. Two pretty major upsets in the women's there - the bottom quarter has been blown wide apart now. Is that the first time Kirilenko has ever got to the 4th round of a Slam?

Federer-Williams - January 19, 2008 05:30 AM (GMT)
Roddick out yesterday! 3 major upsets today...seeds watch out!!!!

THe bottom half is looking like defo the winner of Ivanovic Venus is the finalist. So almost defo Venus.

Ahhh I didn't look close enough at today's matches. I didn't realise it was Mirza    up against Venus.

She will get smashed off the court but she is extremely pleasant on my eye.... Come on Sania!!!

Federer-Williams - January 19, 2008 11:40 AM (GMT)
Now 6-5 to Venus who is playing well enough to win in straights now.

I like the new sig Choka.

To be honest, the nice (and appealing) thing about the WTA is that you have things like Serena, Justine and Venus on 8, 7 and 6 slams respectively whereas in the mens game Roger has 12, Rafa has 3.... and the rest have 2 or less...unless I am forgetting anyone... :(

No ypu're right, it's definitely a bit more even on the women's side.
Meanwhile Venus is 6-0 up in the tie break.... :)

Gav - January 19, 2008 11:51 AM (GMT)
Venus came back strongly there after being down and takes the first set :ok:

Aww Sania... :(

chokapova - January 19, 2008 12:12 PM (GMT)
For me Venus isn't looking like a title contender at the moment but as I have said before it's all about getting through to the second week. I expect Venus to win this one and am sure will improve in subsequent rounds....

Gav - January 19, 2008 12:27 PM (GMT)
Venus is still playing well and is now 5-3 up in the second. Question is....will they put on Lleyton and Baggy next.... It's getting late but I hope so.

yes upped her game but credit to Mirza, it wasn't the thrashing some were predicting. No discredit losing 7-6 6-4 to Venus... :)

Brakkus - January 19, 2008 12:33 PM (GMT)
According to the BBC they are going to put on the next match

Federer-Williams - January 19, 2008 12:37 PM (GMT)
Gav I only put the slams in of my favourite player's not by rank of current players.

If we're getting picky Venus has 14 slams anyway so still tops Justine :P in that facet.

in the grand scheme of things though doubles titles aren't what people are going to worry about too much

Only pulling your leg FW... but if Venus has 14 slams you should put her above Federer! :P :P

Federer-Williams - January 19, 2008 12:42 PM (GMT)
No they are also in order of how favourite they are :P

Federer is my number one favourite for life.

He is greater than them as well.

dl04 - January 19, 2008 03:58 PM (GMT)
Venus had such a test today, and came through it really well in the end :D Mirza was hitting such devastating forehands and giving Venus little chance to work the points due to the accuracy and depth of her hitting. Venus went through the gears though with that superb tiebreak and was generally pretty comfortable then on. Her serve was great, 7 aces and only 1 double :ok:

Going into the second week now, hopefully Venus will keep on improving and work her way through the draw :D

Kuzy though :crazy1: Radwanska played a really methodical match as always, but Kuzy was just so erratic off the ground. Moving sloppily, forehand flying out and no authority on her serve, nor when she attempted to move up to net. Just dismal allround, and defies her number 2 ranking yet again.

Anna C also bombed out in ludicrous fashion. Just seemed to tank the last two sets
