Title: Day 6
Description: Saturday 19th January

Dinky Jo - January 19, 2008 12:11 AM (GMT)
So, after the excitement of the Roddick match (which finished just 8 hours ago), which caused me to do absolutely nothing for most of the day at work  , we now have day 6 of the tournament. Will it throw up any other good matches???

Cilic vs Gonzo

Fed vs. Tipsy

Hewitt vs. Baggy

Blake vs Grosjean

Djoko vs. Querry

Monaco vs. Berdych

Nalby vs. JCF

ferrer vs. Spadea

Dinky Jo - January 19, 2008 12:50 AM (GMT)
apparently it's raining......so play is suspended on outside courts

Pebs - January 19, 2008 12:52 AM (GMT)
buggering bugger!

rain has it in for me! the first night I can stay up...

:moody:

Pebs - January 19, 2008 02:49 AM (GMT)
Bloody Blake is getting spanked at the moment!

one set down and already a break down in the second!

Grosjean takes the second 6-2. Looks like Blake is going to disappoint at a Slam yet again.

Elsewhere Cilic and Gonzalez have just got underway in an intriguing match. Cilic is up a break at 4-2.

Federer-Williams - January 19, 2008 05:28 AM (GMT)
Cilic up 5-0 in his 4th set to take the match!!!
He is a good player!

Great serve bit like Federer technique.
Nice forehand a bit like Gasquet in technique but more potent.
Decent all round game - I predict great things.

Bye bye Gonzalez. The upsets are flowing today.

Greeat win for James as his 5 set record is

Unlucky Grosjean forgivable in your twilight years.

Edit: Cilic just won yehhhha! Gonzalez gonna drop a bit of ranking too!

SaraLess - January 19, 2008 07:00 AM (GMT)
Fed lost the first set 7-6 :angry3: :angry3: :angry3: :(

SaraLess - January 19, 2008 07:26 AM (GMT)
But a wonderful tie break from Federer, he takes the second set :phew:

Federer-Williams - January 19, 2008 07:28 AM (GMT)
This is the most nervous I have been watching Roger in a GS since Wimby Final!

he stepped it up now at the end of 2nd set back to usual self and evens it at 1set a piece.

But at the beginning he looked out of sorts.. His serving is amazing though helping him through 17 aces in 2 sets! I dunno what his record is but he could smash even his Wimby ace count in the final. 80% first serves in as well.

He's better off the ground again...cmooon Fed.

Edit: I have to keep reminding myself and we all should: never doubt thy Fed even at the French.

SaraLess - January 19, 2008 07:30 AM (GMT)
Yep, it's a real :peek:

Apparently Rog had a toilet break - Wilander and co. pontificating if his stomach has been playing up, as apparently uncommon for him...

Hoping he'll profit from that excellent tie break and turn up the heat now...

scolios - January 19, 2008 07:52 AM (GMT)
This is a real nail biter. Fed doesn't look himself most of the time - and misses shots he can normally do in his sleep. So to say....

vivahate - January 19, 2008 07:58 AM (GMT)
...it looks like he's playing Nadal on clay

tipsarevic has definately brought game.

Federer-Williams - January 19, 2008 08:00 AM (GMT)
Still cloose everytime he brakes he has a mental lapse and gets broken despite his 22 aces.

Federer-Williams - January 19, 2008 08:19 AM (GMT)
ARGHHHHHHH!

broken in the 3rd set 6-5 Janko to serve it out...

f*ckKKKK! Federer missing some routine stuff now....

NErve-wracking
Down 2 sets to 1...where are all you Fed fans..?

scolios - January 19, 2008 08:21 AM (GMT)
He's losing the second set :(

vivahate - January 19, 2008 08:23 AM (GMT)
he lost it...and Fed's in trouble, down 2 sets to 1 :o :o :o :o :o

hats of to Tipsy though, he got game :)

I meant third set - and he's lost it. Doesn't loo good at all for fed.

Gav - January 19, 2008 08:24 AM (GMT)
Oh wow! Someones actually making Fed sweat at the Aussie Open....finally....

Let's see what Feds got here at 2 sets to 1 down.

scolios - January 19, 2008 08:29 AM (GMT)
Not much, I don't think Gav. He just doesn't look like himself today :(

I agree...only his serve is there...the rest is gone.

Gav - January 19, 2008 08:32 AM (GMT)
Rog is a champ. Can't count him out that easily even if his game isn't at its best.

Federer-Williams - January 19, 2008 08:33 AM (GMT)
Fed equalled his best ace co9unt of 25 from Wimb 2001 against Pete...he gonna break it easily now 30+ I assume.

Yep this is true...he come out more positive this 4th set.

SaraLess - January 19, 2008 08:39 AM (GMT)
:(

I don't know what's happening here - Rog missing some BPs that he should be converting...and his serve seems to be going awry.

Allez Roger!!!

SaraLess - January 19, 2008 08:40 AM (GMT)
This is a total aside - and nothing to do with the score - but Tipsy was a bit wrong when challenging whether some shots were in/out. Don't ask the umpire - either call it or don't!

SaraLess - January 19, 2008 08:42 AM (GMT)
47 UE from Fed...

but he's just broken Tipsy...COME ON, FED!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Federer-Williams - January 19, 2008 08:44 AM (GMT)
YESSSS!!!!! cmoon now hold hold hold

vivahate - January 19, 2008 08:46 AM (GMT)
has the tide turned?? 4-1 Fed :)

p.s. how much does Fed loathe hawkeye??

Please let that tide turn...if Fed can deliver a breadstick here....

And yes, Fed sneers when he is 'forced' to challenge - really quite funny. :D At least he challenges 'on time', rather than Tipsarevic, who gauges the reaction, mulls it over...then finally decides :tsk:

SaraLess - January 19, 2008 08:57 AM (GMT)
Game and fourth set: Roger Federer.

Come on, Rog....COME ON!!!

I am NOT enjoying watching this - far too tense!

On other courts - Djoko mashed Querry, straight sets 6-3, 6-1, 6-3. Apparently he was 'troubled' at times - find that hard to believe, but will see what the highlights show.

Federer-Williams - January 19, 2008 08:57 AM (GMT)
I agree asking umpire then having a break then challenging - idiot.

ANyway Fed gave him a breadstick...now please a bagel in the fifth...tipso 5 set record is v good though.!

Gav - January 19, 2008 08:58 AM (GMT)
I'm glad someone is finally showing Fed can be tested. It gives some of the other guys some idea of how to go about it. Anything to create more edgy matches later on in the tournament. :ok:

Both about to come out for the fifth set and Roger looks like the man most likely to take it.

Dinky Jo - January 19, 2008 09:08 AM (GMT)
ok, not quite what i expected to wake up to!

I love Tipsy though so i'm glad to see him doing well

SaraLess - January 19, 2008 09:10 AM (GMT)
Musing over whether Tipsarevic has managed to put Federer off his rhythm - and that's what can really get him down. For example - Tipsys hawkeye challenges. He can take the fluency out of the match.

Obviously that's all part of the match - and Federer needs to deal with it - but I wonder if that's part of what is putting the champ off kilter somewhat...

Dinky Jo - January 19, 2008 09:14 AM (GMT)
I have a feeling Fed underestimated Tipsy somewhat - in his interview the other day he was saying he hadn'yt expected Tipsy to beat Verdasco :nope:

SaraLess - January 19, 2008 09:14 AM (GMT)
nice tactic from Fed, hitting low and producing passing shot....

SaraLess - January 19, 2008 09:19 AM (GMT)
commentators also now mentioning the amount of time Tip is taking between points.... :tsk:

Dinky Jo - January 19, 2008 09:19 AM (GMT)
my goodness, first time i've seen Mirka do anything but text in a tennis match

vivahate - January 19, 2008 09:21 AM (GMT)
wow, these two guys won't budge. great stuff :ok: :ok:

SaraLess - January 19, 2008 09:24 AM (GMT)
Tipsarevic has a good serve - good kick to it.
