no real standout pairings. who knows who'll win this thing...i'll take azarenka/mirnyi.

felixsanchez - January 17, 2008 09:05 PM (GMT)
There's too many random Australian pairings for my liking!

Anway will go for Huber/Murray to win the title! :D

Manzikert - January 27, 2008 02:09 PM (GMT)
Nenad Zimonjic and doubles gold medallist Sun Tiantian have won the title 7-6(4), 6-4 against Indian duo Mirza and Bhupathi (the latter having won here partnered with Hingis two years ago). Well done!

So the AO gets two Serb champions. Zimonjic has won a few other mixed Slam titles so he's been winning them for Serbia before the young celebrity trio came along. B) And of course Jankovic won the mixed Wimbledon last year with Jamie Murray. Ivanovic has some runner-up hardware as well. But Djokovic is undoubtedly the one with the most prominent win now.

Good on Mirza for reaching the final (and pushing Venus for two tight sets in the singles draw) and eminently representing her country, after all the ludicrous flap over the Hopman Cup flag business. She's constantly having to weather these tempests in a teacup back home and it makes me wonder if she shouldn't just play for the UK, considering the strong support she gets at Wimbledon from the Indian community. Certainly the LTA would be thrilled to get not just a Top 100 woman finally but a Top 40 player in one fell swoop.
