Title: Day 3

Dinky Jo - January 16, 2008 07:45 AM (GMT)
I assume everyone must have gone to bed last night and not stayed up and watched the tennis. Looking at the scores it wasn't *that* interesting anyway, although a few surprises:

Nadal took care of Serra easily (sorry Tenez.... ;) )

But Fish managed to put out Robredo in straight sets

Tsonga won in straights as well against Warburg.

It took Youhzny 4 sets to beat Seppi but he did it

Karlovic managed to beat Sela in 4 as well

And Wawrinka retired injured :(

Matches in progress at the moment:

Davydenko is taking apart Mahut

Andreev has beat Vliegen fairly easily.

Roddick and Gasquet still to come

I thought the world belonged to those who dare!
Obviously not!

But it's ok, now i have Wise to help me share the burden of shame. ;)

Blimey, there are a serious amount of bagels flying around these opening matches!
Still, Robredo going out is a bonus - it means when we actually get to watch this live at the weekend, it won't involve a 70hr rally ;) (even though I really don't like Fish much better!)

Watching Davydenko now - but unfortunately scoreboard time for Roddick and Gasquet. I am still 100% convinced that this side of the draw is considerably easier than the other...

Kolya is dismantling Mahut.

I agree - this side just hasn't got the great potential match-ups i don't think

whereas tomorrow the final match on rod laver is the Baggy vs. marat one :hide:

the AO website writers obviously went to The Sun school of journalism - the headline is:

Fish batters Robredo

:giggle:

Gasquet wins the first set 6-2 against Lopez :ok:

Well its the one dimensional American up next.Think I will give it a miss. There is nothing about Roddicks game that I like at all other than how it makes Federer play at the next level, something Andy cant seem to reach.

I simply agree.

Roddick won the first set 6-2.......

Wise_Analyst - January 16, 2008 11:16 AM (GMT)
Gasquet absolutely crushed Lopez - that's a really good result for him and totally unexpected if I'm honest, I thought he was gonna "crash out" Murray style there. I'll only get truly excited if he beats Andreev though.

SaraLess - January 16, 2008 11:35 AM (GMT)
Yes, I didn't see Gasquet beating him tbh...but I am not counting chickens before they hatch, as Richard has left me with egg on my face once too often

Dinky Jo - January 16, 2008 11:37 AM (GMT)
Roddick won the 2nd set with ease but is now a break down in the third

SaraLess - January 16, 2008 11:38 AM (GMT)
are you watching the game, DJ? Read on the Beeb that Roddick is playing really defensively and baseline topspinning everything down the middle?

no, i'm being remarkably unproductive at work and following the scores instead......

SaraLess - January 16, 2008 11:46 AM (GMT)
Ditto - will be interested to see the highlights, as Roddick will be setting himself up for earlier failure with this approach...

Dinky Jo - January 16, 2008 11:55 AM (GMT)
Roddick breaks Berrer in the third set - he's now a break up

Dinky Jo - January 16, 2008 12:12 PM (GMT)
and Roddick wins 6-2, 6-2, 6-4

SaraLess - January 16, 2008 12:30 PM (GMT)
Apparently the score line doesn't reflect the standard of play - if Roddick laboured against Berrer at times, he's in trouble once he cruises out of easy streets.

Still, I can't say too much having not seen a shot - only what does appear to be a pretty comprehensive score!

Dinky Jo - January 16, 2008 12:38 PM (GMT)
well, that last set took nearly an hour........
