Title: Big fat predictions comp - running commentary
Dinky Jo - January 15, 2008 04:33 PM (GMT)
I'd like to point out that this is going VERY badly for me.....
I had Murray reaching the final
Davydenko going out early (I must have been drunk  )
Jankovic going out early and Paszek as my wild card - well, that went well
Here's hoping Safin manages to get to the final - he may just be my saviour.....
liam_valid - January 15, 2008 04:51 PM (GMT)
Well i predicted a Nadal Fed final i think,, with Murray making 1/4s or semis. I will prob check on mine towards the end of the tournament.
however i did get Almagro to be first seed out :D , but had Krappy kegs as my wildcard and shes out already
nevets - January 15, 2008 05:20 PM (GMT)
I take it's too late to change my early exit prediction to Andy Murray ;)
Thankfully, I only had him as a wildcard!
SuperBRAT - January 15, 2008 05:45 PM (GMT)
Well I have lost my semi finalist and finalist Murray! I toyed with him and Youzhny, wish I'd had Youzhny! My early exit was good though with Almagro :ok: I Should have had 2 cos Ljubi was my second choice :D My Wildcard Safin is still in. I fancied Cilic more but wanted to cover all angles and nto put all eggs in one basket so just took Almagro as the EE there. And I need Hewitt to reach the semis! I went for one non- fave and when I worked my draw ou he came up so I stuck with it. I thought Djoko was supposed to be off boil but doesn't look like it!
On the women's I have lost my wildcard already in Karjicek and wish I'd taken Davenport as I was gonna. I need Razzono to go out tonight for the EE. Wish I'd had Zvonereva now.
WimbledonAce - January 15, 2008 08:16 PM (GMT)
Well luckily I only had Murray as a reserve so not lost too much there. Unfortunately my mens wildcard is out already and early exit Blake is still in.
As far as I can remember all my semis are still in and my womens wildcard so fingers crossed!

I don't even remember entering this, but having read my picks, I was clearly on drugs when I did. Murray to reach the final? Kiefer as the wild card? Neither Davydenko or Nadal to reach the semis, but Roddick to do so... At least Almagro did me proud by losing in the first round - and by rights, my wild card and early exit for the women's tournament were bloody good picks. It just happens that Paszek decided to treat me to the biggest choke of all time and let Jankovic scrape through, accounting for both picks to immediately go pear shaped.
SaraLess - January 16, 2008 07:58 AM (GMT)
I had Murray to go through to the Semis and Gasquet as my Early Exit...
Not sure I am doing particularly well - at least I relied on Fed, Nadal and Djokovic (famous last words...)
Big Al - January 16, 2008 09:23 PM (GMT)
So far I think Im OK (famous last words I know :dohh: )
Dinky Jo - January 17, 2008 01:46 PM (GMT)
there goes my men's wild card

Same here , very sad the way he lost after getting two sets back :(
WimbledonAce - January 18, 2008 03:13 PM (GMT)
Both my wildcards have gone and now my semifinalist and finalist :( Also both my early exits are still in. Looks like Im doing badly!
Dinky Jo - January 18, 2008 03:14 PM (GMT)
luckily i didn't have roddick getting to the semis

I've had a quick look through an done a bit of an analysis:
Womens
Wildcards - Paszek, Krajicek, Devenport, Penetta were the picks that did not make it to R3. But Sugiyama chosen by WA and Rezai chosen by Miss SF did :ok: Although they are both out now I think. Well done you two. Su Wei Hsieh would have been a goodpick, as would Dellacqua! Wozniacki, Domachowska, Lisicki (who?), Ruano Pascual, Makarova were the others.
Early Exits - Jankovic, Sharapova, Dementieva, Petrova, Chakvetadze, Mauresmo, Razzano were all picks that failed. The onyl successes were Zvonereva R1 (Viva) Bartoli r1 (BT) and Bammer R2 (fah) - well done! :ok: You coudl have had Vakulenko, Safina, Safarova, Szavay in R1 - a surprising number of good youngsters there! And in R2 Golovin, Schnyder, A Bondarenko.
Mens
Wildcards - I don't think anyone had a success here becuase too many folks chose Safin. Kiefer adn Clement were the others and both exited in R1. Tsonga, Koubek and Tipsarevic wouldn't have bene bad picks. And Cilic who was my second choice. Garcia Lopez, Gicquel, Fish, Grosjean, Querry and Spadea all woudlhave given points.
Early Exits - Davydenko, Gasquet, Nalby, Blake, Hewitt, Ferrero were all choices that didn't exit early - although I can't remember if Fererro made round 3. The onyl successes were Almagro R1 - Wise, SB, fah, Liam and Al picked that. And Tursunov in R2 - WB, Buttercup and nevets got that. So nto much success considering you coudl have had in R1 - Stepanek (which shocked me!), Chela (not a shock at all), Murray :yikes: (but it was always possible) and Moya - again a shock ! - and Ljubicic. In R2 there was also Robredo, Wawrinka (shock to Gicquel!) and Verdasco who is often inconsistent so it was on the cards really.

Gd round up SB, so much choice you would have thought one of us would've done well!

I know! I'm annoyed I plumped for Safin as my WC - I had Cillic and Tipsy in contention. I was worried Cillic might not take out Almagro though as the EE, so I covered more bases! I had considered Grosjean also. I got the early exit Almgaro, but I also fancied Ljubicic and wish I'd had 2 :D The women's was a disastaer though - the only EEs I considered in that lot were Zvonereva, who I almost went for and Golovin.
And the women's WC was a disaster! I think out of all those that made it the only one I considered was Sugiyama. Sure there were some names to take a chance on but they were not strong contenders at the start it seemed.

I'm not doing well - though all my SF choices are still there, bar Murray.
Gasquet didn't choke...Safin didn't turn on vintage Safin :(

Oh I've lost Murray and Roddick. The oen I expected to lose was Hewitt - but he si still in :yahoo: Not such a mad SF choice after all in the scheme of things.
