Title: Aussie Open Quotes

Dinky Jo - January 14, 2008 03:33 PM (GMT)
From the BBC website, please add any others that you find!

"I have honestly never been in a happier state than what I am now. I'm always happy and smiling. I think because I have made it all about me, I put Serena as A, and A is first."
Serena Williams begins her bid for domination of quotes of the day early

"I like the colour. I think it's really pretty. I like how it's all blue."
Serena on the new courts

"When I see pregnant women walking, I'm like, how do they walk?"
Serena again

"With my website, I'm really interactive. I've written a lot of things about me. I have a part that's a relationship blog where I go through some of my friends' problems, what to do in a relationship, what not to do. I always try to bare my soul so people can get a better feeling for Serena Williams."
Guess who?

"I was praying actually. Please, God, help me get out of the situation. And I didn't want to go home, that was what was driving me, what was pushing me to go forward."
Jelena Jankovic after scraping past Tamira Paszek 12-10 in the third

"I feel like the British - when they're high, they're really high, and when they're low, they're really low. I don't feel like there's a lot of middle ground as far as the media is concerned."
Who? Us? American Andy Roddick gives his view on the pressure Andy Murray is under

"I don't really care, half my family is colour-blind anyway, so it doesn't matter."
Roddick on the new courts

"All these places I felt like I would never play again. And just to play a Grand Slam again, I never thought I would be in this arena again in my career. It's been a lot of fun."
Lindsay Davenport after her first Grand Slam match in two-and-a-half years

"Maybe the sign of the day to come was when my son woke up crying at 5am with a nightmare. I should have read more into that than I did."
Davenport on her struggle to beat first-round opponent Sara Errani

"I try to. I try to. I think it's the way to go for me, you know, play on the baseline, go to the net. I just try to be - I don't know how say that - like complete, no?"
Andy Murray's conqueror Jo-Wilfried Tsonga on the quest to be more consistent

how do pregnant women walk??? God, I hope Serena's been given contraception...

Duchess - January 14, 2008 05:10 PM (GMT)
I would just love to get into Lindsay D's head and see just what she's thinking. I think she has an agenda.

Dinky Jo - January 15, 2008 08:38 AM (GMT)
"Don't ask me for any impersonations. I don't want to offend anybody because some people tell me 'don't do it, some people don't accept it as fun'."
Novak Djokovic, just before mimicking his friend Maria Sharapova by pulling up his shorts and preening himself on the Rod Laver Arena

"She doesn't mind, she's OK with it. As I was saying, I wasn't really trying to, you know, make fun of anybody or offend anybody."
The fun-loving Djokovic has upset a few people with his impersonations before, but not this time

"Collywobbles? Football team gets that, mate."
Lleyton Hewitt is briefly baffled by some English terminology

"You can't control these things, it can happen to anyone."
Sixth seed Anna Chakvetadze, trying to brush off being tied up by armed thieves during a robbery at her home in Moscow last month

"I don't care about my profile, I care about my game."
Second seed Svetlana Kuznetsova seems keen not to follow the lead of her compatriot Anna Kournikova - wonder why?

"If you get, 'this girl said this, that one said that'... I'm over it. You know, whatever. If they want say something they come to my face and say it to me."
Kuznetsova comes over a bit teenager on us

Dinky Jo - January 15, 2008 09:59 AM (GMT)
A couple from the delectable Mr Safin:

(Talking about going snowboarding in Europe)

Q. Not too many falls?

MARAT SAFIN: No. I'm alive, so I think it was good.

Q. What is your fear about the new surface?

MARAT SAFIN: I don't fear anything.

Duchess - January 15, 2008 07:06 PM (GMT)
Wow, Anna C doesn't seem to be too concerned with her life-threatening experience  . Gotta love Svetlana K- :giggle:

Dinky Jo - January 16, 2008 10:48 AM (GMT)
"We say booty. I'm not quite sure about 'posterior'. I'll try to keep that in the back of my mind. 'What are you doing?' 'I'm shaking my posterior'."
Serena Williams. She was asked what she thought about a TV commentator admiring slow-motion pictures of sister Venus's "posterior"

"Venus definitely has a great posterior. I'm sure it looked nice."
Serena plays down the rumpus

"I avoid stepping on the lines of the court because I believe it brings me luck."
Not sure about that, but at least world number four Ana Ivanovic doesn't think she will get eaten by crocodiles

"Rituals are an important part of my life during tournaments - I am probably one of the most superstitious players on tour."
Ivanovic also bounces the ball exactly four times before she serves and eats at the same restaurant every night

"I always have a song playing in my head. It can be annoying because I can't get it out of my head. In the first round it was 'Wake Up Call' by Maroon 5."
Ivanovic again. It is a wonder she manages to remember to play tennis really

"Why frustrating? I have 5,700 points so there is nothing frustrating. I'm very happy to be number two, and I would love to be number two for the next hundred years."
Rafael Nadal contemplates a century in tennis when he is asked what it is like to play second fiddle to Roger Federer

"Yeah, absolutely. I thought I'd, you know, push into the 40s."
Alicia Molik plans a long career

"Maybe a year later, now that it seems so far away from me, I can say I missed the tournament but in January a year ago I really didn't miss my tennis because there were more important issues in my life."
But 12 months is a long time for top seed Justine Henin, who did not even watch the 2007 Australian Open after pulling out because of her marriage breakdown

Dinky Jo - January 16, 2008 12:50 PM (GMT)
"We'd need a really long time because all I'll need is a tennis ball and I'm just going to stand here and bounce the ball for a really long time before I serve. We're going to be here all day long."
Maria Sharapova on being asked for her impression of Novak Djokovic - who has taken to impersonating the Russian

:lmaao: :lmaao: :lmaao:

fair play to sharapova - that's really funny!!!!

Duchess - January 16, 2008 04:58 PM (GMT)
ha ha those are some good ones!! I've noticed that both Venus and Serena shake their rear ends quite a bit when waiting for a serve-I think they want us to look at them. :D

Dinky Jo - January 17, 2008 08:32 AM (GMT)
"They don't annoy me, the only thing that annoys me is when I miss."
Venus Williams after being asked if her rather weighty diamond-encrusted earrings are an on-court distraction

"I think Serena is the Williams sister that is famous for her derriere... she's renowned. So I guess I'm getting one up on her."
Venus seems quite happy to hear a TV commentator has been admiring slow-motion pictures of her "posterior"

"Because I guess I made some mistakes."
Venus on why her unforced error count was so high

"I told him 'you look like an assassin with that jacket on. He said he has a cold so he had to put the hood up."
Maria Sharapova on dad Yuri's fashion faux-pas

"I missed four balls, four unforced errors in the match I did. He did 58 winners in 58 minutes almost. I served quite good. I was moving well. I was fit physically. I was hitting the ball well. And I won three games."
Fabrice Santoro on facing Federer

Dinky Jo - January 17, 2008 08:34 AM (GMT)
Q. As someone who does love the game, the spectacle of it all, the characters, will you be turning on the TV tonight to watch Baghdatis against Safin?

ROGER FEDERER: Yeah. Depends on my dinner schedule.

I see Fed's got his priorities straight :giggle:

Dinky Jo - January 18, 2008 10:48 AM (GMT)
""We just started. Just for fun sometimes we do it. It's just my relaxing time in preparation, an hour a week we do some hip-hop. I'm so bad, but I want to improve."
Justine Henin reveals that she is taking 'hip-hop' dance lessons to mix up her fitness training

"No, no, no. I just heard she's pregnant and it's very soon. I wish her the best. But we didn't speak for a long time now."
Henin is asked if she has been in contact with former rival and fellow Belgian Kim Clijsters

"I just lost to Baghdatis. We're not talking about Roger Federer. Roger Federer is a different level person, different level player. I feel like he's coming from somewhere else."
Marat Safin is a fully paid-up member of the Federer fan club.

"I thought he would start a little bit more slowly. So thank you David Ferrer, because he gave me this tactic."
Rafael Nadal rues taking advice from fellow Spaniard Ferrer ahead of his match with Gilles Simon.

"I don't think about playing on centre court right now, for me to get there it depends on my results and I need to win four matches to play on centre court in the quarter-finals."
Nikolay Davydenko suggests that he is not the biggest box office draw in Melbourne

"I am very emotional. Sometimes it's to my advantage. A lot of times to my disadvantage. So I will just have to put it in a more of positive way, I guess. I can't be something I'm usually not."
Nicole Vaidisova explains her regular on-court outbursts

"My head was down and I was just kind of dragging myself around the court."
Jelena Jankovic - known as one of the fittest women on the circuit - feels the heat in Melbourne.

Duchess - January 18, 2008 05:28 PM (GMT)
I'm sure the light reflecting off Venus' earrings would annoy some folks. :D Justine H. taking hip-hop lessons?? can you imagine her & Svetlana K doing a rap video together??? roflmao

"You're an idiot. Stay in school kids, or you'll end up being an umpire."
A not-so-pleased Roddick blasts the umpire and offers advice to, um, kids.

you have to love how he takes time to advise kids...

Q. How does your body feel compared to last year at the US Open and hardcourts?

RAFAEL NADAL: My body is perfect, no? (laughter) Physically speaking.

He can appear a tad pidgeon chested and duck ass like sometimes.. if you follow..
Still extremely fit though.

Tenez - January 22, 2008 04:21 PM (GMT)
Tsonga view on Rafa's body is quite fun too!

Q. Nadal is a different player from every other player.

JO-WILFRIED TSONGA: Yes, maybe, but he has two arms and two legs like me, so we will see on the court.

Duchess - January 22, 2008 07:02 PM (GMT)
Nadal does have a good looking body-but I can't help wondering if he's on some performance-enhancing drug (I'm guessing and hoping that he isn't). :o

nevets - January 22, 2008 09:20 PM (GMT)
I doubt it - he's always been very muscular and it's not as though his arms are really bulky - they are very toned, wheras steroids make your muscles bulge and add bulk.

"The head of state is proud of this remarkable performance as are all of the French."
In a statement, French President Nicolas Sarkozy congratulates Jo-Wilfried Tsonga on reaching the final

Q. Obviously you're not very happy. What happened to your game out there tonight?
RAFAEL NADAL: Nothing.

Q. What worked for you tonight? What did you like about your game?
JO‑WILFRIED TSONGA: Everything.

Q. If you play this well again on Sunday night, do you think either Federer or Djokovic can beat you?
JO‑WILFRIED TSONGA: I don't know. But I will do my best on the court, so I know it's going to be difficult to beat me.

liam_valid - January 24, 2008 03:12 PM (GMT)

I'm entirely sure that Mr Brown would do the same thing were it Murray

Tenez - January 24, 2008 04:05 PM (GMT)
Maybe, he'd wait for the tournament win? In anycase Brown woudl probably not say he'd wash the difficult surburbs (where some of the tennis players come from) with a Karsher.

hmm...no, i have a feeling Brown congratulated the England rugby team on getting to the final. I wonder if Tsonga is particularly thrilled to get Sazrkozy's praise then
