Well, with her first round win, Lindsay has become the career prize money leader of WTA!

dl04 - January 14, 2008 01:11 PM (GMT)
C'mon Linds

The Davenport-Williams mafia are willing you on :D

Still, no shockers like today please

liam_valid - January 14, 2008 04:02 PM (GMT)
cmon linds, another double Bagel would be just fine here :)

trisco - January 14, 2008 04:37 PM (GMT)
So torn with this one...

Have to go with Masha I think as I think she will have a better chance later on, although it wouldn't surprise me if Davenport came out swinging very cleanly and with nothing holding her back and knocked Maria out.
Although saying that the scoreline from Davenport against the Italian girl wasn't that great today.

i agree about wanting masha through as she would stand a better chance against henin. but i cant cheer on maria to make the deficit 5-1 :(

I really don't know becuase both players fill me with lack of confidence at times. At first I thought Davenport, but then having since heard about Lindsay's wobble last night and looking at their head to head it has to logically be in Sharapova's favour  Then again maybe Lindsay's attitude will have changed now she's had time off and a son etc. Eitgher of them can get into a groove and thrash the other so I am nto going to bet money on this game.

I'll be supporting Lindsay cos it would be great for her if she won after retiring and coming back, and I don't like Sharapova . Plus I owe Lindsay one cos a won a few quid on her a couple fo years back, although she blew some of it when Venus beat her in the Wimby final 2005.

Duchess - January 14, 2008 04:54 PM (GMT)
I'm cheering for LIndsey becaue I'm not too fond of Maria (gav where did you find that picture? )

vivahate - January 14, 2008 05:12 PM (GMT)

Sounded like a bit of a laboured win for Lindsay today.
As much as I would love to see Lindsay win this one  , I just can't see it...
Lindsay never plays Ther Cheat with any belief that she is going to win apart from that one extremely spectacular win... :D
If there was ever a time I would love to be proved wrong it's now though...

BIG-TODGER - January 14, 2008 11:00 PM (GMT)
I cannot abide the shrieking-up her own arse so called 'Sharapova' (if indeed that is her real name)
I'm putting all my moral and spiritual support behind wholesome Earth mother Lindsey, God bless her and lets hope she knocks the crap out of Masha (if indeed that is her real name) :argh:

Queen Justine - January 14, 2008 11:32 PM (GMT)

Duchess - January 16, 2008 04:43 PM (GMT)
Just found out Lindsay lost in straight sets :( @#$% that Sharapova!!! :argh:

tlimvvo2max - January 16, 2008 06:17 PM (GMT)
I was struck by a pair of stats before the match that seemed hard to believe, namely that Sharapova is 1.87m tall and weighs 59kg. Now that is SERIOUSLY skinny! :yikes:

I'm the same height as her, I run marathons and I'm generally regarded as a thin bloke at 70kg - a BMI of just under 20. Hers is just under 17, low enough to make just about anyone look chubby, never mind Mummy Lindsay.

Question: are those numbers right, and if so how on earth does she generate the power that she does?

nevets - January 16, 2008 08:24 PM (GMT)
According to the WTA website, she's actually a centimetre taller at 1.88m! I always thought that Dementieva was just as skinny - or maybe a bit more skinny than Sharapova but she's a few cms smaller and a few kgs heavier.

I have seen Dementieva and Maria in the flesh, so to speak... :P
I got Elena's autograph at Wimby a few years back, she isn't skinny at all. Has great legs...
Maria is very skinny actually, prob more so when you see her in real life. It is amazing she can generate so much power from such a slim frame but I guess her height and technique will all help with that...

tlimvvo2max - January 17, 2008 12:27 AM (GMT)
Thanks for those thoughts... I do wonder if it will make her more vulnerable to injury as her career goes on.
Just hope it's a weight she's comfortable with, not something "influenced" by Yuri... :(

Oh she's a matchstick! I don't get it either - I am 6 ins shorter an weigh much more but I am not an athlete and I assumed they had muscle which weights a lot. All I can say is that she'll be sufferign a lot of strain an injury in her core area - wasit and lower back/ hips as she grows older with all that strain through a long skinny body. She already looks slightly sttooped over to me. I knwo a lot abotu this cos my family are tall with longer legs then top half and we all have problems as a result.
