Title: Doha, Chennai, Adelaide live scoring

Wise_Analyst - January 2, 2008 04:09 PM (GMT)
In Doha, Murray somewhat bizarrely dropped the opening set 6-1 to Schuettler, but has hit back with a bagel and is a double break up in the decider, so looks to have recovered from his early blip.

Also, Calleri is following up his win over Robredo by assuming control over Lee, already a set up. Wawrinka, T. Johansson and Kohlschreiber all won earlier, and unfortunately Tipsarevic and Kiefer were both forced to withdraw before their matches with Ljubicic ( :angry3: ) and Tursunov.

Wise_Analyst - January 2, 2008 04:31 PM (GMT)
And Murray wins 1-6, 6-0, 6-1.

Calleri beat Lee 6-3, 6-1 and will play Wawrinka in the next round, which should be a good match.

Another bizarre match happened in Chennai, with Youzhny going 0-5 down in the first set to Vasselin, storming back to win it 7-5 only to get a breadstick in the next set. However, he recovered to take the decider 6-2 and will play Malisse next round, who saw off Melzer 7-6, 6-2.

it's the start of the tennis season, and the live scores have broken.... :badpc: seriously, this does not bode well for the rest of the year does it

:argh:

Dinky Jo - January 3, 2008 02:39 PM (GMT)
In Chennai, Rafa won in straight sets, and Cilic took out Mahut in straights as well (and Mahut was seeded 5th, so a good win for Cilic :ok: )

In Doha, Ljubicic vs. Kohlschreiber is at 1 set all (with Kohly winning the second in a tie-break) and Calleri is up against Wawrinka - with the match on serve in the first set.

MurrayMint is on after Ljuby vs. Kohly - he's playing Johansson :)

trisco - January 3, 2008 02:39 PM (GMT)
Looks like Ljubicic has just lost the 2nd set against Kohlschrieber (sp)...
was hoping for Ljubo to wrap that up as Murray is on next.
Speaking of Ljubicic, I have just been watching that match and he don't seem to be packing too many weapons in this match.. compared to last time I saw him play anyway..

Dinky Jo - January 3, 2008 03:24 PM (GMT)

Oh, and Wawrinka beat Calleri 6-3, 6-0 B)

Wise_Analyst - January 3, 2008 03:36 PM (GMT)
Oh ffs Ljubicic, f*ck off already  And Wawrinka continues his irksome habit of beating all the players I like. :(

Murray and Johansson have just started - here's a stream if anyone's interested:

Pebs - January 3, 2008 03:57 PM (GMT)
thanks for link :) bet the bloody shopping arrives now!

Pebs - January 3, 2008 04:03 PM (GMT)
what was Andy told there? was it something about touching the net?

Wise_Analyst - January 3, 2008 04:13 PM (GMT)
The ball had bounced twice when he hit it, I think.

For those not watching, it's been pretty even so far, although Murray has had two chances to break Johansson's serve, but the Swede was just too good on both points. I'd still fancy Murray to get the victory, but it won't be easy - his opponent thrashed Andreev for the loss of just one game in an earlier round so is clearly in good form.

5-4 Johansson, on serve.

Pebs - January 3, 2008 04:27 PM (GMT)
ah, thanks - I couldnt work it out on my rather distorted sound

into the tie-break now - looking good from both players I think from the bits I have caught

Pebs - January 3, 2008 04:31 PM (GMT)
 first set Andy

Dinky Jo - January 3, 2008 04:31 PM (GMT)
:yahoo: MurrayMint!!! :yahoo:

Wise_Analyst - January 3, 2008 04:33 PM (GMT)
It was all square in the tiebreak until 4-4, at which point Murray did some good retrieving to force Johansson into a volleyed error to gain the mini-break, and then fired two big first serves down to take it 7-4. Let's hope he makes shorter work of the next set - I doubt Davydenko, his scheduled SF opponent, will waste much time against Tursunov.

liam_valid - January 3, 2008 04:41 PM (GMT)
Damn Ljubicic why dont he retire already

Dinky Jo - January 3, 2008 04:42 PM (GMT)
oooh - MurrayMint broke :D

Pebs - January 3, 2008 04:42 PM (GMT)
someone must have passed on Wise's advice - Murray has just broken Johansson - I am not sure if he stepped up a gear or Johansson was just going for a bit too much and not pulling it off.. but either way... first break to Andy :)

Speaking of which, did you see that Hewitt beat Acasuso 6-2, 6-2 in Adelaide? I thought you might like to praise him on his good performance. :P

Anyone see what happened when Murray broke? I missed it, although I just saw him struggle to hold in an entertaining game - he was 40-15 up, but a double fault and an outrageous let cord from Johansson took them to deuce, where a few gruelling rallies took place before Murray could make it 3-0.

I am fairly sure you can work out my response to this... and none of it's polite...

as for what happened when Murray broke - tbh, I only caught bits and bobs but it looked like Johansson was suddenly going for it but missing the lines or netting it - but given the current scoreline of 4-0 I am guessing Andy has stepped up a notch or two now. Even if he did nearly blow that last game

Pebs - January 3, 2008 04:57 PM (GMT)
:moody: bloody screen keeps freezing now!

Wise_Analyst - January 3, 2008 04:59 PM (GMT)
 Hewitt's been annoying me recently with all this rubbish about the surface in Melbourne being made faster so as to give him a chance to win it - the last thing we need it more surface assimilation, especially when it's so futile - the guy has no chance whatsoever of winning another Slam.

And Murray really did take my advice - hands out a bagel in the second set, which is pretty good going. 7-6, 6-0 - Davydenko vs Tursunov up next.

Pebs - January 3, 2008 04:59 PM (GMT)
arrrrrrrggggghhhhhhhhh match point and I missed the lot - even the sound went!

anyway, Andy dishes up the bagel to wrap up the game and move ever onwards!

I am happy for Hewitt to spout rubbish as long as he gets his arse whipped in the long run and looks remarkably stupid in the process...

Donkey laboured somewhat in the first set, but eventually secured a fairly comfortable victory over his compatriot Tursunov, coming through 7-5, 6-3.

His style versus Murray's style generally leads to a bad match, so whoever plays the least poorly will come through tomorrow. The other semi sees Ljubicic play Wawrinka, who normally chokes as soon as he gets in sight of a final, so the mundane Croat is probably going to sour the season early by reaching a final. One can only hope Murray will kick these two clowns into touch.

In Adelaide, the likely final is Hewitt vs Mathieu, but Tsonga beat Hewitt at Queens last year and can hopefully do the same here. Nieminen also lurks in the top half of the draw, so while PHM's route to the final looks secure (Sirianni then Llodra or Becker), Hewitt's isn't so easy.

Finally, in Chennai, the projected semis should be Nadal vs Moya and Youzhny vs Cilic, although the second semi could just as easily be Malisse vs Haase. Hopefully Nadal can win here and give himself some momentum leading into the Australian Open.

Dinky Jo - January 4, 2008 09:55 AM (GMT)
After being a break down early in the set, Tsonga has just taken the first set from Hewitt 6-4
