Remember guys, the players in the poll are what Tennis.com shortlisted. If you have other ideas please specify :)

Where Chris Evert and Navratoliva? :o And Graf was hardly rusty!

Hard one, so many great returners. Is there any commentary from the site to justify their choices?

I haven't voted cause tbh I don't actually know the return games of all the woman that well.

For instance I know Serena can hit some unbeleivable return winners as did Seles but did they have the consistency of a Davneport, Graf or Henin?

I'm not sure.

Me neither. And interestign you mention Henin because she has beaten many of th eplayers that are up as best servers like Serena and Sharapova, so on those ground she must be good!

Yeah, I have voted Seles...
She just stands out in my mind absolutely demolishing some great first serves from manay a player and smiting the ball back much harder..

Out of the list, it's Davenport by a country mile. So agreesive and forceful off return and she has the prefecttechnique on return. On return you'll notice that she stands about 2 ft back, and then as the serve is coming to her she'll move in to ensure all her body-weight is going through the ball. Her inside-out backhand return is just

However, overall the best returner ever was Chris Evert. Rock solid in every aspect. Players like Seles, Navratilova, graf may have been more forceful on return, but Evert had such a perfect return that she would usually break serve so often, because of the depth and variety that she could implement on her serve.

I voted other- That is Chris Evert for me thanks. :)

Dl is right. She revolutionised the return, she broke serve an awful lot and for the circumstances she played in and time, compared to the others, she is by far the best.

I vote for Davenport. Im not sure its possible to find out the percentage of breaks/holds for every players career, but with Linds having a great serve and such an attacking return, her percentage must be pretty high. Look at all the bagels she serves up!!!! I never really watched Chrissie so i cant comment on her

i said Seles, chrissie was before my time. monica just came out and changed the women's game so much. no more so than in her return. such attacking, aggressive tennis.

Shame, I reckon you'd like her :) There's a few Winby classics with her and Nav. The best rivalry in the WTA. I grew up wtih them, of course I supported Nav and booed Chrissy but I respected both.

It was but I am not a fan. I respect her but found her very annoying and noisy to watch. And quite the spoikt brat back then.
