Davenport to play in 2008 Fed Cup

Lindsay Davenport will represent the USA in the Fed Cup for the first time since 2005 as part of her full-time comeback in 2008.

Davenport, 31, returned in September after nearly a year out, having given birth to son Jagger in June.

The former Wimbledon, Australian and US Open champion has agreed to play in the tie against Germany on 2-3 February La Jolla, California.

"We are thrilled to have her back," said USA captain Zina Garrison.

Davenport won two titles in three events when she returned in September, ending the year with a 13-1 record.

"I am honoured to represent my country on the US Fed Cup team once again," said Davenport.

"My Fed Cup appearances have given me some of the best memories of my career and I look forward to La Jolla and helping our team advance to the semi-finals."

Davenport has a 31-2 overall record in Fed Cup play and played in five finals, winning three titles.

In fact,, both of those losses came on clay, in '94 to ASV, and '93 to Gorrochotegui. Her next appearance will be a record for the USA, 11 appearances

She's ok. I don't have any bad feelings toward her. If she wants to play then she should be able to. :) I think the media is making an unnecessary big deal out of her decision to play again.

31-2????

I've always been a big LD fan, for her talent and sporting personality both; I'll be hoping she extends that splendid record. Especially since my own country's women are due to win the Fed Cup around the time the first human colony is established in the Alpha Centauri system....

It's possible this story was probably bumped further up the headlines with it being the close season and all.

well 6 of those victories were doubles, and half of the singles wins were against lowly ranked players but it looks great on paper :D
