SuperBRAT - December 18, 2007 09:57 PM (GMT)
Anyway if I go out in this round I will blame the category cos power ballads are sooo not what i listen to. Although when I am pissed I do warble alogn badly to a few, but NEVER that Whitney Houston one. :sicky: I do however own the Dolyl Parton version co sI am a huge fan of Dolly. Which may surpise people but I think she's great :ok: Oh and Kenny Rogers :D In fact I'd have bene better at country and western!

Even though I havent partook in this I have voted Bonnie Tyler Total Eclipse Of The Heart (turn around bright eyes  )
I have her greatest hits CD and let me tell you her passion is expressed deeply in her voice. The above song I proudly have on my mobile and in my car.She is amazing!!!!! Liam you must also hear Out Of Nothing At All by Bonnie. As much as I love Air Supply, she gives them a real run for their money and she is solo.
Also love her with Meatloaf, " I would do anything For Love"

I've done some research, and according to various sources, each one of of those songs can be categorized as Power ballads :)

Keep On Loving You - nwo which oen of them did that?
SuperBRAT - December 20, 2007 01:05 PM (GMT)
What is and isn't a power ballad intrigued me. I though tit was more form the rock genre with a soft intro, love song/sentimentla theme and lots of rock guitars in the chorus. Otherwise any ballad could practically qualify.
So I checked this out on Wikepedia
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Power_balladSeems it did originate in rock and is as I thought, but has changed slightly today and is used to describe non-rock songs. Also that it has been applied retrospectively to cover the likes of Queen and Led Zep, and also applied to some modern indie/rock bands such as Green Day, Nickleback and Keane  although these could arguably be more 'anthem" than power ballad. There was no mention of Whitney, and interestlingly it seems the Carpenter's Goodbye to Love may have been highly influential. I love them :D And shockingly no Becuase the NIght by Patti Smith, which I would have said is perhaps my fave. Widh I'd thought of Boston before - More than Feeling :)

when i think of power ballad, i imagine Queen, Meatloaf, Cher, Foreigner, Bonnie but i suppose it could be applied to all sorts. It is interesting the variety of songs that have come up in this theme

Yep. There is a Power Ballds album out - i saw it in shop today. Tbh I could not listen to it for long. The odd classy oen but ya know, too much! :sicky: Cher is deffo a PB woman, and Foreigner were on the album too. I also think of Aerosmith, and Roxette who were not mentioned on Wikepedia! I should know they do Pbs cos I have to put up with them too often - George has aboot 8 Roxette albums!

Me too - though I half expected more of the songs listed on Wiki then we got - certainly some more Poison etc - I even wondered about Heart - anyone remember 'Alone' - thats a right old belter of one!
Not surprisingly, I have most of those listed at home - infact, I made up a load of compliations from Power Ballads and most of those are on it!
