Well, what a wonderful win for Amelie. It's a shame that JHH's level dropped in the 3rd set, so we couldn't get a finish like last year, but after a deflating first set, Amelie picked up her level, got a few 'Allez's in amongst the ones that JHH was shouting, and was solid in both of the second sets, including fighting off a stern JHH fightback in the second set.

Amelie held her nerve throughout the 3rd set, and JHH couldn't raise her game. It didn't help that her forehand deserted her, and she gave away too many free points.

There were flashes of quality from both players but Amelie was the better player on the day and deserved to win :) Two of the finest backhands in the game, once handed.. and what? lots of serve and volley??

Two wonderful things for Amelie:

1. She didn't choke!! What will they talk about in interviews now?!!

2. She finally got that feeling of getting to championship point and that outpouring of relief when she had finally won!

And finallly, I think that she is one of the nicest players on the WTA circuit. I'm a fan of JHH too, but of Amelie especially, and am absolutely dleighted for her!!

Oh I cannot beggin to say how DELIGHTED I am fo rher. What a worthy winner. it owdl have been a CRIME if she had never won Wimbers, as she has the perfect grass court game. Well it is so great for her, she has now ended her own inner doubts about serving out a title, and shut up all the harsh critics who have called her a choker all these years and degrudged her the AO title saying it was not a true win. Good for you Amelie, you deserve it :ok:

It is great to see such a nice story at Wimbledon, the last great one for the ladies was when Navotna overcame her demons to finally claim her deserved title on grass. Well I don't think a nicer person could have won, and she is by far the nicest and most gracious winner in recent years. Who knows what she can go on to win now. :D
